Anyone else have or ever had an elevated test result? I have a level two ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow the odds of this baby having a neural tube defect is 1 in 92. It doesn't seem like good odds. I'm really worried and I've had to wait since Thursday when I got the result so I'm very anxious to know what is going on.

I always decline that test because it has such a ridiculously high rate of false positives and it sure wouldn't change anything for me...
I wouldn't spend time worrying about it mama...

I just got back from my ultrasound. The baby does not show signs of neural tube dects but does have a couple of cysts in his brain. They told me they should disappear within a month so I have a follow up appointment then. They think my elevated tests results were due to the large amount of bleeding I had earlier on in my pregnancy. I bleed heavily for abut a week then lightly for a month.
I also found out I am having a boy! DD is a bit disappointed because she already has a little brother so she really wanted a sister.

1:92 is actually quite good -- think of all the other things you'd feel pretty safe about if your odds were only 1:92. "False positive" isn't really an accurate term with this test, as it is not determinate -- the ratio is accurate, but very much on your side, KWIM? Glad things looked good on the scan. :goodvibes: :hugs:

I had slightly increased levels with my son. They did an ultrasound and found cysts in his left kidney. I wonder if cysts cause the slight increase? Anyhow, they think it was just a fluke in development. He does not have function in that kidney and we continue to monitor it - ultrasounds for him every 6-12 months. He's now 11 months and healthy as a horse. He does just fine with his one healthy kidney and should for the rest of his life.
I agree the test can be nerve-wracking, but I'm doing it again. Who knows? Without it, we might have never known and I never would have brought him in for a slight fever and a little fussing when he had a urinary tract infection at a couple months old. A dangerous infection with one kidney if not treated right away.
I'm not willing to take that risk now that I know.
