I had my 24 week checkup yesterday and now I am a little concerned. I have been having pain low down on my sides and when I told her this she wanted to see where my placenta was. She said that she had checked the images from my 20w u/s and that she couldnt see how far it was from the cervix. She she did an abdominal u/s and said that it was really low but she couldnt get a measurement from the cervix. She also said that my placenta is anterior but going up and down rather than side to side. She measured my cervix and the distance by a tans vag u/s and said that it is really close. She wouldnt say if it was covering my cervix but it was too close for comfort. She is referring me over to maternal fetal medicine for my next appt and to have an u/s around the time of my next appt. She had referred with the MFM docs about the u/s from yesterday and he agreed that it was too close. She said that if it is less than 2 cm from the cervix at the time of delivery I would have to have a c/s. Another thing that they are concerned with is the size of the placenta. She said that the way that mine is laying tends to be on the smaller side and can lead to a smaller baby so they will watch the baby on u/s from here on out as well.
Any stories from being this far along and having a really low placenta?

:hugs: Well I dont know anything about the size of a placenta but at my 20 wk appt. my placenta was completely covering my cervix and I went in yesterday at 25 weeks and it is now3 cm away. So they do move. I read that about 95-97% of the time the placenta moves out of the way. So the odds are on your side  I hope it moves enough for you. :goodvibes:

I also have heard they move a lot.
FYI, there was a lady in my yoga class today who is due at the beginning of August (so pretty far along) who had been recently told hers was super low and she was scheduled for a C/S. Accupuncture was recommended by her doula and the placenta moved (her OB said he'd never seen one move that high, that fast).
Just an idea...

The only person I know who had previa ended up with everything being fine. It was 15 years ago so I'm not sure if they handle things differently now but she was hospitalized from May-September when they delievered Peter via c/s a month early. She was bleeding in May though so it was full previa and not moving at all. On a plane home from Hong Kong and started bleeding - straight to the hospital from Logan airport...ugh. But Peter was fine, he's a PITA now but that's it. lol (I was their nanny from the time he was 6 weeks old until he was 6yo)
From what I have seen they don't mess around with it so they will watch you closely and if they were truly concerned/drastically concerned right now they would be taking action. kwim?

They kinda are, I think. When it took me over a week to get a call back from the nurses line, the doc gave me a direct line to the MFM nurse! She told me yesterday when I called to get the u/s scheduled to call every other day to see if they had one sooner so that we wouldnt have to wait so long (Aug 11). She also told me that I should take it easier than I have been and no lifting anything heavy since the baby is getting bigger and is pressing against the placenta. I am also on pelvic rest and have strict orders to come in if the pain gets bad or the contractions get regular. I am also to go in if I have any bleeding. I could tell the concern she had when she was talking to us on Monday. So I am just in the waiting game right now to see if it moves up as my placenta grows. If not, then we will take it as it comes!!
As for accupuncture helping the placenta moving up, I dont think that is possible. The placenta is attached to the uterus and it "moves" up as the uterus expands, but the placenta itself doesnt move otherwise.
