Particulary in or around the Mason City area.
My husband are looking to move currently right now we live in NH and my husband as an opportunity to go work in Mason City.
Were coming from New England so its extremely expensive to live/work here.
We have done some research on the internet about the area and it seems so nice, but I would love to get some feedback from families on here as the internet isnt going to totally give you the ins and outs..
Thanks so much

I was born and raised in NE Iowa! I lived there till I was 19 and then I was on my own.
I lived in Clear Lake. Right on the other side of interstate 35 from Mason City. Clear Lake is a tourist town. The population fluctuates from around 8000 in the winter too around 16,000 in the summer. The amount may be off since it's been more than 10 years since I lived there. Mason City is a nice town. People from Clear Lake go to Mason City to shop as it has all the decent shops, ex: Walmart, Target, better grocery stores, mall etc. Clear Lake has more touristy shops.
Be prepared for long winters. You will be living only about 1/2 hour or so from Minnesota. I can't tell you about the schools. I was homeschooled during my 10 grade and that was right before my parents and I headed overseas to be missionaries.
I can't really think of too much more. If you have any more questions, please ask. I can help you as much as I can.

Oh wow, thanks so much...
Well living in New England I'm not sure how the winters compare, we usually run about November-April sometimes. The cold though always hits in October.
Do they have rough winters as in lots of precipitation?
Our biggest thing is the Cost of living, obviously cost of living in New England is well RIDICULOUS....LOL Where I live the average cost of the home is 600,000 with the average salary for a single person 75,000-150,000. So I know going to Iowa will be a huge change becuase maybe for once in our life we will be able to afford a home.

Don't live in Clear Lake. Prices are ridiculous since it's a tourist town. I couldn't tell you about the prices in Mason City.
Winters are a little rough. Sounds like the same in New England too. No surprise to see a bit of snow in April once in a while either. People have even brought out their cross country skis in Clear Lake to get around during the winter :giggle:

I was born and raised in Iowa and still live here! I love it.
We just bought a house about 2 hours south of Clear Lake (near DSM). The 'average' house is $100,000-$250,000 around here.
We go to family camp near Clear Lake, in Ventura. It is a little tourist-y but I grew up in a town like that, so it wouldn't really bother me, lol.
I don't know about the schools or anything like that though.
