As a first time mom, I'm really nervous about doing something wrong, so bear with me. I read that I can give my 10-month-old tahini, but the jar says there could be trace amounts of almond (though it's not a listed ingredient). Can I give it to her, or should I wait? TIA!

We gave our Little one Tahini at around 10 months, he loved it! I think they have to put the trace amounts thing on there incase of a alleregy, almonds are not know for an allergey as much as peanuts, so just watch for a reaction!!

I gave my oldest 2 tahini and almond butter at around 10 months. I started cashew butter at a little over a year, and didn't start peanut butter until they were 3 (I took a peanut butter sandwich and let them eat it while we were at the chiropractor, who is 2 blocks from the hospital  ). You should try to use the raw stuff since it's a lot easier for a little one (or anyone) to digest.

Does the raw stuff come in a jar, too?
Also, I'm a vegetarian, finally going vegan, and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind telling me what your kids eat on an average day.

The raw stuff is in a jar too. The front will usually say if it's raw or not, but the ingredients should have the info if the front doesn't.

I'm gonna PM the rest of the post to you, as it's pretty long.

Also, raw cashew butter is very cheap, so we get lots of it. The kids will eat it by the spoonful. It's so creamy, I use it in place of margarine when making icing for cakes.

Tahini is stronger flavored, but if you mix it with garlic, salt, and a liberal amount of lemon juice it gels up into tahini "cheese" that is delicious as a dip or sandwich spread.

Usually the only reason they do that is because peanuts, almonds, etc are present in the same factory and could possibly come into contact with another item. It most likely isn't in there but if it was it would be so minute that I'm positive it wouldn't do any harm, unless your child was allergic to it.

Not to hijack the thread but is sun butter (made from sun flower seeds) OK at his age as well as tahini? I saw this at Whole Foods yesterday and wondered if it was ok for DS who will be 11 months at the end of this month...
