I have degenerative disc disease/degenerative joint disease DDD/DJD in my lower lumbars specifically L-3 thru L-5. I had an epidural with my first, 14 years ago, and labor was a breeze!! Now this time around im scared sh*tless they wont give me one. My xrays are not current, they are 7 years old, and of course after finding out I am prego, they wouldnt xray me to see if things are worse etc... Im due in 4 weeks and really freaking out that they will refuse to let me have one again... Has anyone had this problem? If so, what did they give you instead???

My suggestion would be take some hypnobirthing classes and try for natural  I've never taken them but I have a few friends who have, and it works great.

Bradley works well too. Good Luck. I highly suggest thinking about laboring in water.

You could try to google hyponobirthing and your state, there may be classes near you as well

Even if it has you can :) The hospital has a jaccuzi tub, but its only for the begining of labor. They specifically do not do water births and if my water has broken, I will not be allowed to use it. I know, boo hoo... I should be getting a portable tub and doing it at home, but I am way to nervous/anxious/chicken sh*t to even go there, lol.... My OB said no too.....

I've heard from a lot of people that having an Epi can cause back problems later on in life. I don't know how accurate this is though.

I wish I could blame my back probs on the epi I had with my daugther 14 years ago, lol. I could sue the hospital and be set! Unfortunately, between my Mother, Brother and me, if you put the good parts of our spine together, we might have one perfectly functioning one. Obviously it runs in my family....

I have 2 herniated disks-L4 to S1- and they did a spinal block no prob for my C section. I just made sure to remind them again before they did it and they went 1 or 2 discs above the herniation. Hope that helps!
