We recently bought Ivy a potty to get her used to the idea of it. She's definitely ready - taking off her diapers, telling us when she needs to be changed - but I am completely at a loss in regards to training pants. How are they different from diapers? Do I need to buy them? She knows when she's wet. Will the trainers help her use the potty regularly instead of sporadically? I'm sorry if some of these are dumb questions, but she's our first so we have no clue.

Personally trainers didn't work with my dd she used them as diapers because they caught everything. So we just started training her in undies because she could feel the pee running down her legs which was not to fun for her so she stopped using undies like a diaper because they didnt hold the pee.

I've never cared for trainers myself. I think it works best when the child can tell they had an accident. From what I've been able to tell, the trainers are diapers that pull up and down. I do use the Gerber padded underwear in the early stages or for out and about. They are only slightly absorbant, but help stop the puddles from forming on your floor.

The only good of trainers is if you are out and don't want to have to change the whole outfit if you don't make it to the potty that was all the way across the store that you only pulled off the road for cause they had to go potty. Use underwear when home and stay home as much as possible for a few weeks. And no more diapers allowed except for overnight~"No you're a BIG girl, and BIG girls don't wear diapers under there clothes" (not mad like but matter of fact.)

Thanks! The trainers seemed sort of redundant, but I wanted opinions of mamas who've been there. :) I have yet to find any of the thick cotton panties that were around when I was a kid. My mom is keeping her eyes peeled for me too. I just went ahead and bought some normal ones for Ivy to wear around the house. She's been successful so far (we just got them today). It will still be diapers at daycare though b/c she's unsure of their potties. She's the only one in her room who's is starting to PT, but her caregiver is working w/her on it.
