I was wondering how many ounces of EBM does you LO drink in a feeding and how often if they go to DC or if you EBP?

DD4 is 7 mos old and the Dr recommended uping her calorie intake....they believe the best way is more solids but looking at the calorie count on the jars of food that I have in the pantry versus the calorie count in BM...but not sure how much how often is good for a baby her age:headscratch:

We worked very hard on keeping DS weight up (he has a blood condition and being on the small end could put him in higher risk of other things). I was told about one ounce of BM per hour was a good gage until they are about 6 mth. After solid is introduced the BM goes down. Formula actually has more calories (though not as nutritious as BM) and in our case we decided to supplement so DS could get extra calories.

It depends on how much solid is feed in terms of how much BM is needed.
Avocado is a good baby first food, very nutritious, full of calories. Bananas are also good and easy to prepare. There is rice porridge with meat and puree yams, sweet potatoes, beets. If DD4 has begun to chew then a lot more food option is available. I have some favorite recipes, if interested PM me.

DD is 7 mos old...I don't want to send her bottles that have too much in them because they would have to be dumped out after a certain amnt of time or if they after they are warmed a certain # of times......

but I also want to make sure that she is getting enough! She does eat solids but i would love to give her more mama's milk all the time and less solid food!

kellymom has a good calculator on it. the most dd ever took was 4oz at a time close to a year I think. I wanted her to get bottles more frequently - every 2-3h just like when I was nursing rather than the 3x a day some ff I know do at dc.

my understanding is much of table foods has fewer calories than ebm

I'm a dietitian and there is something called a breast milk fortifier, you add it to your milk and it gives it more calories/protein/fat etc. Could be an option if your doc if ok with it.

My daughter is almost 5 months old and I leave 4 6oz bottles a day for her while I work from 8-5pm. Sometimes she takes all 4, sometimes she only takes 3. She's fed on demand, so it just depends on how hungry she is that day.

thanks! I leave 2 4-5 oz bottles right now and DD eats 4oz of solids at DC.

my son only goes to daycare for 5 hours 3 days a week. He is really weird with his eating schedule. He only eats 3-4oz at a time during the day. He's 7 months now. He'll eat 7oz at home in the morning and the afternoon. I don't know if it's because he's more comfortable at home or if he's too busy playing during the day I'm not sure. He also gets one veggie during the day. I have to add that he just started getting organic formula last week. I had to wean him due to some medical issues I was having. But that's what he was doing with ebm.

I leave 3 4 oz bottles for my 5 month old, 18 lb chunky monkey. I work 40 hours a week. We're not planning on starting solids for a while yet either.

There's a starting solids forum on DS too you can check out...

my ds would eat 2-3 oz per feeding at daycare between ages 3mo-8mo. strange eater too. daycare won't feed him from the same bottle more than once, so that was frustrating to figure out how many to pack and not wanting to waste that precious milk! we would sent 5 4 oz bottles and most frequently he'd come home with one full one (not used) and all the rest would have an ounce or so left. apaprently my dc standards said they couldn't dump out the breastmilk on site, so fortunately they'd put it back in the fridge and send it home with us. we'd combine the milk into a bottle for the next day (they'd freak if they knew that though!) making sure to put it in the front of the fridge or labeling it with a different colored marker so we'd know not to use it again if any was sent back home. now ds is with my mom for the summer and he's eating about 10-12 oz total during two bottle-meals in a 9 hour day (but he's 10 months and on 3 solid meals with snacks between).
hth mama! there's a breastfeeding support thread here too if you need more info or advice! :-)
