Ok - when DH and I first got together and started talking marriage - my mom made this comment : "If you make me a grandma before I'm 40, I will kill you both." :giggle: But what do ya know.... we're both still walking this earth! :lostit: And my mother became a grandmother right after turning 38. My grandparents were young - as a matter a fact - they were 37 when I came along as the first grandchild. . . . So I'm just curious about everyone else's family & wat knot. . .

How old was Grandma when she became a Grandma?

My mom was also 37 when DD was born. That is what she gets for having me at 18. :giggle: (I was only 19 when DD was born though).

DH's Mom was 43.

I'll be a lot older than that by the time I become a grandma, my kids are no where near becoming parents.

My mom just turned 51 and no grandkids yet. but she is also supppper young for her age.

This is her with my older brothers(her sons). People often confuse us for sisters, or just same-age friends. I don't know if that is bad for me, or good for her though!

My mom was 32 when she had us (I'm a triplet). And I was 25 when DS was born and made her a Nana for the first time. She's a member here--so I won't spit out her age just like that... but you can do the math. Dad is 2 years older than Mom.

My mom will be 50 this coming Feb. She was 47 when DS was born. Gma for the first time. DH mom was 50 I think when DS was born. My gma that I am close to was 58 when I was born, but not a gma for the first time. My dad is the middle of 5 and my gpa went to war so there was hold on children for a while! She was 32 when my dad was born.

My mom was 59 when dd was born. My mom was 34 when she had me and I was 25 when I had dd, who is her first grandchild.

On the same note I was taught in my sociology of family classes that 40 is the average age a woman becomes a grandmother. And the youngest grandmother on record was 29 when she became a grandmother. Just thought that was interesting.

I'm sure I'll be well in my 50s, which is fine with me. My mother was very young as she was 19 when she had my oldest sister and then my sister had her first at 16. So, 35. For me, that is too young.

both my mom and mil were 43 when they became "grandmas" , neither one of them is called grandma though. :giggle: My grandparents were a lot older because my grandma was almost 40 when she had my mom and my even though my dad's parents started younger he is one of 6 so they were still older when they had him. I never really knew my grandparents very well and I always planned to have kids at a younger age so that my children would have real relationships and memories with them, plus my mom had us when she was 23 so I just had the image of being around the same age when I had kids.

I meant to check the last box AND the second one.

My mother had me at 19, and I had my DD at 21, so she was 40.

My MIL had my DH at 38 (fertility problems), and he was 35 when DD was born, so she was 73.

My DD is the first grandchild out of both of our families, so she made one a grandma much sooner than she expected, and made another a grandma much later than she expected!

...And MY grandmother was actually a great-great grandmother at age 72!!! She may manage to live to be a great-great-GREAT grandmother!

My mom was a few weeks shy of 43 when my ds1 was born and she became a grandma. I was 21 and my dh was a couple weeks away from 22.

My dh's mom was a grandma at 31 because his sister had a baby when his sister was 16 and my dh was only 6. So my dh became an uncle at 6. SO my mil was 47 when ds1 was born but she had already been a grandma for 16 years.

My mom didn't have me till she was 26, I had Kearnan when I was 19, so my mom was 45 when Kearnan was born (her first grandchild, I'm the oldest). My mom's parents were older when I was a kid, Mom is a middle child of 6 kids, and since she waited later to have us her parents were 60 when I was born. They were very healthy though, Grandma at least got to meet Kearnan a couple of times even. She was alot of fun, she was always up for anything, even though she was older. But I think it is great that my boys get to have youngish grandparents (not as young as some obviously, but younger). They can do just about anything, and they should be with us for a long time to come I hope. The only draw back is both of my parents are still working, obviously they are not old enough to retire. So they aren't available to babysit during the day, or to take long zoo trips during the week ect. Dh's parents are a bit older, Dh is the youngest of 4, and his parents were over 30 when he was born. So they were a good bit older when our boys were born. His dad is disabled, he is blind from diabetes but he is still very active. He doesn't mind doing a bit of babysitting here and there. Dh's mom is still working as a teacher, and probably will forever if they let her. :giggle:

I picked 2 options, for the same "grama" (my mom)....
61-65 because my mom just turned 62 a couple weeks before DD was born
51-55 because my mom was 51 when my step-niece came into the picture when her mom got together with my brother.

ETA my mom is older than most new gramas, for biological grandchildren, because I am the only child giving her biological grandchildren. She gave birth to me in her late 30's
my 2 brothers (who mom had when she was in her mid-twenties) never had their own biological children. One married and gained a step-daughter that I mentioned above, and they cannot have any children together because my SIL had to have a hysterectomy (due to cysts?). My other brother is dating/common law with a woman who is technically old enough to be my mom :yuck: (my bro is 15 years older than me, and dating a woman about 8 years (I think) older than him..)... and she has sons from a previous marriage (I don't even think she's technically "divorced" either... even though my bro and her have been together for over 10 years)... her oldest son is 3 years younger than I am!

The poll should let you vote twice. Aren't there two grandmas? MIL was 66 and my mom was 56. The older grandparents are way worse about doting and spoiling, but it's like DS breathed life into them. MIL quit smoking while I was pregnant:thumbsup: and goes to the gym now:giggle: three days a week. If baby 2 is a girl, I think she'll actually find the time to quilt (a hobby I dragged her into a few years ago). :giggle2:

I'm the oldest in my family and the first (and according to my sister, the only) who has kids. Mom accused me when I got pregnant of timing it to give her a 50th birthday present. She turned 50 a few months before DD was born.

However, I'm younger than DH and his siblings - MIL's oldest grandchild will be 11 in September. I'll always remember how old my neice is because her mother was so excited to be pregnant, that she blurted it out to me the first time I met her a few weeks after DH and I started dating. :giggle: I think MIL's turning 56 in January, which would have made her 44 when she became a grandma.
