I can't keep Victoria out of my Grandsons baby swing when he's not in it. It's not the sturdiest thing around. I got this for my 14 year old dd when she was a baby. They've really changed swings since then. This one has spindly legs and she wants to get it going so fast that the legs come off the ground. But, this is the result after she's been in it awhile.

She also loves to climb into the bassinet, roll up in a blanket and get it rocking.

The thing to the left of the swing is a glider. She also loves to roll up in a blanket, turn it on and climb in that. She always has to be moving...back and forth, back and forth. She makes me dizzy watching her.

Besides the pod swing, are there any other pieces of equipment that you know of that might be helpful in my situation? I guess it's not hurting anything to have her sit in the baby stuff. I just worry about the swing not being sturdy enough.

oh i know what you mean! I know that you saw that post of e's room. I remember when we first got it and still how much GOOD it does him. Yeah all the neighborhood kids just think it is because I am the 'cool' mom adn that this is the house to be at on a rainy day but it does so much more for us than create fun! E is like that he HAS to be " snug as a bug in a rug to sleep and have his 6 blankets PERFECT under his chin and all around and he is like me in that and that he has to rock himself to sleep by hooking his feet at the foot of the bed and shaking it. I wouldn't let her the swing I think the weight limit is 25 or so. How much does she weigh? We have an amby that j uses now but e slept in it forever. Maybe that would work but I have not idea the limit on those...

LOL! I know what you mean. We had a jump a roo (the thing with the stand and the kind of jumper in the middle) Kearnan used it more than Tharen did. He used the baby hammock more than Tharen too, it's really too bad he is too big for it now. I think I may have to buy a pod chair and hang it on our back porch. I wonder if that would work?

Tienappyqueen, would the pod chair be easy to hang and then take in the house at night to keep it clean? Like does it unhook or anything?

I bet you could really easy, it has these plastic 'locks' that you have to thread the rope to and then it hooks/clasps into place on the hook. If you get a thin enough carabeaner I bet it would make it even easier than having to unclasp the hook thing

Oh and the jumper thing!!! Since we pulled e's out for J about a month ago it is CONSTANT "e get out of the jumper!"

What is it about those jumperoos? :roflmbo: Kearnan would have his legs totally folded flat on the floor underneath him (hes got super long legs) sitting in it.

THanks for that pic, I think I'm going to give it a go. I would love to put it up in the play room, but I'm worried about it pulling down out of the sheetrock. Our back porch is big exposed beams that would be easy to attach it to. If he would be willing to use it out there would be the only catch.

oh I found the ceiling studs and bolted into them! IT would have been in a heap in seconds had I not done that!

ikea has some great movement furniture for older kids...here's a linky

Also a hammock+frame from a sporting goods store can be great for night time, as long as you make sure the setup is safe for your kiddo.

How hard was it to find the studs? We had a hamock chair in our old house, but we actually went into the attic to find the studs to hang it from. We then reinforced those with a couple of 2x4's considering it was going to be adults sitting in it. I would love to put it up again, but it takes up sooooo much room, we just don't have that kind of room in this house. If I could find the studs either in Kearnan's bedroom or in the playroom to hang one of these swings it would be awesome. Then I might mount my hamock chair out on the back porch and we would have all kinds of swings for Kearnan.

YEAH do that. I knocked on the ceiling like you do the wall till you hear the more dense depper sound. Dh didn't beleive me so he used an electronic stud finder, (and guess who was right!)

IKEA baby! But you can't get it online. I wish I was going home soon I would pick them up for you all. List an ISO for someone that lives near one for you!

Luckily she's only about 27 pounds. Just a bit over the weight limit. I just don't know how I could hang one of those pod swings in my house. Our livingroom has one of those drop ceilings with hollow wood beams running across. Her bedroom is way too small. This is one of those times I am very discontented having a small 1100 square foot house.

Go to ikea.com and find out where the locations are. There may be one near you. If not you can pm me, I am going to our local IKEA to get one for Kearnan soon and I could pick one up for you too. The ony thing would be the shipping. I'm not sure how heavy they really are. Let me know if you need me to.

The one is a really good price, not telling how high it will go though. Not sure on the others. I'm not sure how much it actually costs at the store, I've not been in several months.

Here is what we did - we put two bolts in the ceiling - similar to the way the other poster has pictured - my hubby just put two heavy duty eye bolts from Lowes in the ceiling. We have a variety of swings that we hang for our little guy. His favorite is what he calls the "blue cloud." We go to an occupational therapist for sensory integration and they have these there - super easy to do. I just went to the fabric store and bought several yards of lycra (the same stuff they make bathing suits out of) I tied the four corners to a metal loop (also found at Lowes) and hang it up! He climbs in and we swing him. This was super cheap and by far his favorite! I also ordered a Taco swing from a WAHM ( I think it was Affordable Therapy Solutions - You can google it and find her site). Its literally like he is folded up in a taco - He loves to lie down in it and have me swing him. We also attached a regular swing and trapeeze bar from woodplay. Works great!

Another thing we did - I bought some foam scraps from the fabric store (like what they make couch cushions out of) I paid $15 for a hug bag. I stuffed an old duvet cover with them and closed up the end with velcro. It is his crash pillow - he loves to jump in it - also makes for a soft landing if he falls out of his swings.
