dd is 8.5 months old, with no interest whatsoever in a sippy cup. i've given he several kinds, with and without handles, hard spout, soft spout, and she thinks its the funniest thing around if you put it in her mouth. she just laughs, with it in her mouth (kinds funny, but not funny too lol) how in the world am i going to get her to drink from it??
i only put water or very dilute juice in it. and formula only goes in a bottle. nothng else in a bottle but formula. (so i can take it away later with no issues, worked pretty good with dd1) i am worried she's not getting enough to drink (aside from the formula, that she drinks about 24oz a day)
i offer it with meals in the highchair only.
fwiw, she can collapse every single bottle nipple out ther except for the avent. maybe shes not getting anything? the whole vaccum issue like with the bottles?

My daughter wouldn't take a sippy cup until closer to a year. She just had no interest in it. But we didn't give her anything except breastmilk/formula in a bottle until after a year. She didn't get any water or juice until after she was a year old.

My DD is 8 months old, jsut like yours, and no interest in sippy cup at all. We are using Avent bottles nipples on the Avent sippy cups (the different colored Avent sippy cups, they work great as bottles now that the BPA thing in the bottles)
I just try the sippy top instead of the bottle top every couple weeks to see if she's ready.

My DS is 11 months old and he still thinks it is some sort of joke if you give him a sippy cup and hold it up to his mouth. I have tried with and without the valve and no matter what he hates it and will not suck. I don't remember having this problem with DD but I have forgotten a lot of things.

Give it to her, let her do it. My oldest daughter was off the bottle and on the cup by 9 mos old. My nephew was doing the sippy cup by himself around 6 mos old he is now 8 mos old and takes it at every meal time. He does it himself. I think your little one will have more fun doing it herself, but beware of the mess!

DD is 9 months, and she's just starting to grasp that water comes out of her sippy. She caught on once I took a step back and just put it on her tray- when I was doing it for her we got nowhere. She's still not great with it, mind you- she gnaws instead of sucks, and she usually only holds it by one handle because she won't put down whatever she's eating to use it- but she does reach for it when she wants to moisten whatever's in her mouth, which I think is a step in the right direction.

Marissa does way better with a straw. I used to put my straw in her mouth knowing she had no clue how to suck it, but it would satisfy her curiosity. Then one day she got a huge mouthful of my milkshake! Ooops! Now she drinks very well from a straw, only so so from a sippy.

Claire just thinks it's hilarious to smash the sippy up and down on any hard surface, spewing milk everywhere! *sigh*
