Update: This has been crazy! After four weeks of spotting, cramping, and not knowing if I was going to stay pregnant, we had a great ultrasound today. The baby has a nice strong heartbeat and is measuring exactly where it should be! Woohoo! They still have no answers for me as to what is causing the spotting and cramping but for now everything looks great. We are so happy!

mama you are still not sure right? What is your EDD they did an ultrasound on me yest and couldnt see anything but a gestational sac being so early, so I am guessing for 4 1/2 weeks that is normal
Best of luck mama and tons of :hugs:

yeah I have never heard of them seeing anything until 5.5 weeks minimum with u/s...they should not even be doing an u/s that early IMHO.

I wasn't going to post my story until we had an answer for sure but I'm feeling pretty good (and sick :giggle2: ) today so I will update you guys, plus that will explain why I'm still posting here! I'm still spotting every single time I wipe but I haven't had anymore bright red bledding since Monday morning. I woke up Monday morning with bright red bleeding (the second time) and some cramping along with a fever of 101. I called the MW and they were pretty sure it was going to be a mc as I had already been spotting for a week and a half but they were pretty worried about the fever and the location on my cramps (lower right side) as those can both be signs of an ectopic so they had me come in. I was so hysterical on the phone I could barely talk to her - I had barely been able to eat or sleep for the past 12 days because I was so stressed about the spotting and wondering when the mc would start.
When I got there they had me give a urine sample to rule out a UTI as the cause of the fever and then did an ultrasound to rule out an ectopic. They were able to see a gestational sac and a yolk sac in my uterus where it should be though it was too early even for a fetal pole or heartbeat. The good news is the gestational/yolk sacs were measuring 5w4d and I was either 5w4d or 5w2d. The bad news is that they have been unable to determine the cause of the spotting which is now on its 17th day. She did not do an exam. Unfortunately they are only giving me 50/50 odds of having the pregnancy continue because of the constant spotting. I haven't had my betas drawn since last Friday as they said the ultrasound dating took away the need for another draw. I go back in for a follow-up ultrasound on the 22nd and we are praying we see some good news!
In addition to the major stress of spotting for 17 days now, we leave on Tuesday for an 8 day vacation in Maine. Now I have to spend my entire vacation not knowing and worrying. And I'm on "restricted activity" meaning no hiking or biking in beautiful Acadia National Park. I've been struggling trying to decide if I want to beg them to let me come in for an ultrasound on Monday so I can either know that the news is definitely bad and that I'm just waiting to mc or that the news is ok or the same and just have to wait until I'm far enough along to see a heart beat. I can't decide if it would be worse to be on vacation just waiting to mc or worse still not knowing what is going on.
So that is my drama! I've lost about 8 pounds and am nauseous all the time - both good signs for me for now but everytime I think "gee, I don't feel that sick right now," I freak out all over again. Luckly those times aren't that frequent. It is more the wondering every single time I go to the bathroom what I'm going to find.
Thank you guys for you kind words of encouragement! I'll update you as soon as I get news on the 22nd.

:hugs: SS you are going through this mama. I just wanted to give you some encouragement! I was in the same situation...at 6w I started to have bleeding...like my period and very painful cramping, I was sure I was mc again so I went to the Er, and they confirmed that my cervix was opening and they could see a heartbeat but it was very low and "not normal". They discharged me and told me to expect heavy bleeding and pain for a few days, and told me to make a follow up with my MW to make sure I didnt need a dc. I had heavy bleeding for about 4 more days. I went back at 10weeks for my "final" ultrasound and saw a little fluttering heart!!!! MW cant explain what happend...but theres still hope mama.:hugs:

well that sounds better and better. If it were me I would beg for another ultrasound and blood draw to check everything. I wouldnt be able to go on vacation with no knowing and be able to enjoy every minute. Lots of hugs and prayers coming your way.
I know what it feels like waiting. I have to wait till Monday to find out if my levels have doubled and the worry is stressing me out.

I think the same thing! Then I press my chest to see if it's still sore to the touch. I went on that same kind of rollercoaster, so, I really feel for you and pray that all is well with your pregnancy. The only reason I did not run to the ER for an u/s last Sunday when I was bleeding was that my mw assured me it would be less conclusive than blood draws. So, if you can get any more bloodwork done to tell you how your levels are moving, I think it could be more revealing.

Sounds like my first pregnancy with my ds. Has your ob/midwife checked your progesterone levels? Mine were low with my ds and this pregnancy so I took supplements. Just something to keep in mind.
Have fun on your vacation!

Thank you guys so much for your words of encouragement! It means a lot! I am going to try to have a nice vacation (whether I get into the MW tomorrow or not). The good news is that I feel quite sick and nothing has changed for the worse. I'll update everyone when I get back and have my ultrasound.
ETA: Lynn - I did have my progesterone checked when I first started spotting. It was normal at that time.

Oh the joys of pregnancy! I spotted from week 4- week 9 with DD........ same type of thing, had my levels checked, they were normal, had u/s after u/s and all appeared normal. No one could figure out why I was spotting/bleeding and what would happen next. Over the course of a few days, the spotting eventually stopped and the rest of the pregnancy was uneventful :) Hoping yours goes away too mama, because I KNOW how crazy stressful it can be not knowing :bighug:

:hugs: I just wanted to let you know that I spotted/light bled for my entire 1st trimester until 13wks pg. It started when I would expect implantation bleeding and just kept going and going. My dr said it was coming from my cervix. She called it Cervical Ectropion. Basically cervical cells that are extra sensitive due to the extra hormones. Absolutely nothing to worry about. (yeah right-who doesn't worry when they are bleeding and pg) I ended up with a healthy full term baby boy.
