Someone just asked me this question yesterday and I haven't even thought about it yet! Then I thought, we always look like wandering refugees when we enter the L& D floor, with all our earthly possesions packed on our backs (or I should say DHs back :giggle: ) And I never end up using half of it.
So what do you think is essential to have in your hospital bag?

Oh wow I havent even thought to pack the bag yet :giggle: But I have a filling if I do that now ill leave something out I really need or pack alot of stuff I dont need. I think Im going to wait until Im 36 weeks to pack the bag.
That will also give me some more time to get the rest of the stuff sewn that I need to :)
But now as far as what the essentials you need I'd have to say 'atleast' 2-3 lose, comfy outfits for yourself, socks, undies, nursing bras (if BF'ing), bath supplies, cloth pads if your using those, nursing pads, pillow, and comfort items. Thats all I can think of for myself.
Now for baby thats a different store I need to start a post for that one.

Comfy socks
undies
bath stuff (soap, shampoo, etc)
comfy nursing top (like a tank you can sleep in) or nightgown
nursing pads
extra pair of pants (either maternity or stretchy)
shirt to wear home
robe or sweater in case hospital is FREEZING
For baby:
outfit (or 2 or 3)
cloth diapers
recieving blankets
And for labor:
Snacks
radio and CD's
at least one pillow from home
I can't really think of anything else that's necessary. I like to keep things minimal, though.

I just packed mine and I have it all stuffed in a medium duffel bag for easy transport. LOL
I have:
several copies of my birth plan printed on bright colored paper
my own Advil (because I hate waiting on the nursing staff to get it)
2 pair socks
undies
small bar soap and travel shampoo
small tooth paste
toothbrush for DH and I
comb & hair tie
nightgown
nursing pads
extra pair of pants (either maternity or stretchy)
shirt to wear home
robe or sweater in case hospital is FREEZING
flip flops to wear in the shower and around the room (hospital floors are GROSS)
2 extra old Walmart pillows
Boppy
Camera with extra batteries
Fill in the blank birth announcements (pre-addressed with postage already added - the hospital is so boring and I have ample time to fill them out and get them DONE before we go home)
For baby:
outfit (or 2 or 3)
ring sling
And for labor:
granola bars and single serving lemonade mix
labor ball (this will most likely get taken out way before we get to the hossy)

You can too take Advil while you're BFing... I took it for the first few weeks for nipple soreness. The lactation counselor gave it to me, so I'm pretty sure it's okay.
