I am new to the area, and need to find a pediatrician before my son arrives in September. Does anyone have a referral for a doctor in Hampton Roads? We live in Chesapeake, but would be willing to drive for a good doctor. We'll be cloth diapering, exclusive breast feeding, and would prefer a doctor that would support a delayed vax schedule. Any recommendations are welcomed.

I take my kids to pediatrics of kempsville in VB. It's not far from the chesapeake border. Dr. Downing is the best! The other docs there are good too. I haven't gotten many comments on cloth when we've been there, but those I have gotten have been neutral to positive. I know they support bf'ing, but not sure on delay-vax since we aren't doing that. I do love that they don't push antibiotics (they make sure there is a need) and discourage fever-reducing meds unless it's a high fever or child is really uncomfortable.

I see Dr. Bolduc at Newport News Pediatrics and he rec. to BF for at least 2 years, loves my cloth diapers, we delay vax, and was very open-minded when I came to him with the info of a naturopath when my lo started with symptoms of food intolerances. She is now on hemp milk after weaning and he is totally cool with it. His LC is great also :)

Anyone perhaps with Tricare that has a recommendation for a pedi? We're also selective/delayed vaxing and none of those docs are listed for Tricare :(

DD's getting an alternate vaccine schedule with some being delayed and the nurses at the oceana clinic have been great.

Dr. Michelle Curry in Chesapeake is really great!! She is very supportive and its her practice, and her NP is AWESOME!! I dont know about the delay vax thing, but i am certain if you explain your reasons, she will be open minded and work with you. She is also really good about avoiding meds unless ABSOLUTELY a must.

I found a great pedi in Arlington, VA. Not sure how far that is from where you are, though, I'm only up here temporarily. Her name is Dr. Barbara Stevens, and I can give you her # and addy if you need it. She is definitely pro-BF (especially extended BF), and is cool with my CD. I don't know about vax issues since we fully vax, but she is extremely thorough, and I really like her.

We absolutley LOVE Stacy Kucharzk at General Booth Pediatrics. She is a nurse practioner and a LC! We are EBF, CDing and have always been SUPER happy with Stacy. Also we love Dr. Bazil but she is currently on mat leave. Their number is 668-6700. I believe they are opening another practice up at Princess Anne. Oh and they have a new Pedi there that we saw once that was super nice too!
I am not sure about delayed Vax because we aren't doing that but I am sure she would be completey supportive on which route you want to take regarding vaxing. I do have a good friend who is not vaxing her DD and they also BF and see Dr. Bazil.
Just an FYI if your DD/DS ever does need a shot request for nurse Chrissy! She is AWESOME!
P.S. We have tricare Prime too!
If you have any questions please feel free to ask!
