She was born at 9:04 am on Friday, the 8th of August!
I had been up since 4:30 the morning before, contracting regularly every five minutes but painlessly. My membranes ruptured prematurely at 9 am and the contractions became irregular. I couldn't decide whether to rest or to work to get things moving, and if I had followed through with either one or the other I would have been much better off!! As it was, I didn't really do either. I had a few upsetting moments during the day, such as when my SO invited his mother over (and she brought his 10 & 12 yr old brothers!!?:banghead:!?!... I hid in my room and cried). I tried a little nipple stimulation and some activity throughout the day but it wasn't moving along at all. I went in at 9pm and I was 2cm! We got serious about the nipple stimulation and things started picking up a little. By the time I had been up 24 hours the contractions were becoming real work and I was weak. Around five she checked me and I was 4cm. I got really discouraged and started thinking about pain medication. Time went on but I was finding it really unmanageable. I was super weak and dehydrated. I eventually asked for the narcotic and they began to set me up but whoops... I was kind of pushing already! At 7:40 the midwife went to check me and said oh and here is the head! I rested a little and then got to it. She came out with great color and a great cry! 7lb, 5 oz and 20 inches! She is a perfect angel, of course, and we are so in love with her! Obviously the story doesn't end there, but that will have to be it for tonight :)
