Eli Thomas Keith was born on August 1st, 2008 at 10:16am. He weighed 7lbs, 3oz and was 19 inches long.
His Birth Story
I begged for induction on July 30th so they set it up for the 1st. He was originally due the 6th. My midwife went ahead and stripped my membranes. On the 30th after I went home from my appointment I started having contractions but they weren't consistent. On the 31st I continued to have contractions but still not consistently. Eli had been extremely active since he started moving in the womb and I noticed about 10pm on the 31st that I hadn't felt him move and it scared me so I went in just to get his heartbeat checked for my peace of mind and sanity.
When I got to L&D he was okay but I started having contractions again so they told me I could stay or go home...I went home. My inducement was set up for 7am the next morning and I wanted to try and get some sleep.
I woke up at 6am not feeling well and then at 6:30, big contractions started hitting me every 2-3 minutes. I got to L&D at 7 and I was already dilated to 5! They called the midwife who decided that I was going on my own, so she just broke my water! No pitocin or anything! They rushed to get my bloodwork because I wanted my epidural! I got my epidural at 9:30. Then I got sick which made me dilate faster and put Eli into position! The midwife came in about 10 and checked me and I was dilated to 8. She helped me turn to my side to help me dilate a little quicker and so that Eli would stay in position as after every contraction he kept going back up! Then within a couple of minutes I started screaming "I gotta push, I gotta push!". So they told me to have at it and he was born at 10:16am!
My husband, Greg, who is deployed to Kuwait right now, called my cell phone at 10:25 and one of the nurses took it over to Eli so Greg could hear him cry! It was soooo bittersweet! Not a dry eye in the house! Some older ladies here in Sylva, knitted him a little hat like the American flag since Greg is in Kuwait...something that I'll keep forever!
