I have been having them on and off all day today and they are definitely not painless like I've read they're supposed to be. I never had a single one with my previous pregnancies but have had a few this time around and they hurt! I had one wake me up the other night and it seemed to last forever. I'm only having them maybe once an hour so I don't think I have anything to worry about, right?

I have had some painful ones. I think how the baby is laying has alot to do with that.
I would make sure to tell the doc though if they are waking you. If they are less then 3 an hour or you have no other discharge changes, or anything then most doc will say you don't have to go in for them.

Mine are definitely not painless this pregnancy. I don't know if that's due to positioning or just a subsequent pregnancy. If my bladder is full they can be really painful, too.

I agree. I get mine really low and sometimes, they just hurt. I never had them with DS so this is all new to me. I think I have them about every 2 hours or so. I figured I would say something to the doc when I go in on Monday.

mine have not been painless either, and some are *yeaooch* I have been having one or two good ones an hour and a couple of minor ones, but I don't think I've been getting to the 5-6 an hour that the dr's want to see before you call.... I have been known to check my own cervix this pregnancy though so I do know how things currently feel so if I feel changes I can go into the drs...

Yep, add me to the list of non painless BH. I get them a lot though. Every 25-30 minutes. But since the cervix is nice and long, the docs dont seem to mind...blah!

I was having painful ones, and it turned out I had an infection (I had my MW check me at my last appointment because they were so strong, I was afraid I was dilating). I can't remember what kind of infection (they told me over the phone really quickly, but I know it wasn't a UTI), and they put me on a mild anti-biotic, and the painful contractions have all but gone away! Yipee!

Mine can be quite painful, too but normally are simply uncomfortable. I have them all the time when walking/active and quite often when resting. I talked to my OB about them today and she's not nec. concerned but wants me to take it easier and have dh do more around here.

She did ask if I had Joey on my due date and I reminded her it was two weeks early. She also asked if I thought I had more than 4 an hour...hell yeah. Definitely. But I'm at every 2 week appts now so I'll touch base with her again in a couple weeks.

I've had painful cramping/contractions through the whole pregnancy. The last two days I've been getting back cramps too. Way fun! So far, no dilating, just lots of contractions. Sometimes I'll have them every few minutes for several hours, sometimes just one 15 minute contraction every hour all day.

Originally the doctor said to call if I had more than 4-6 an hour, now she just asks me how they are going every week. Due to the gestational diabetes I am having weekly visits and ultrasounds, so far baby looks great!

Is it just me, or is anyone else ready for this to be over with?

Are you drinking enough water? Often times dehydration will make BH contractions painful.

You also might need more water in the summer than you would in the winter. When i first became preggers, 10 glasses a day was enough. Now, 12-15 is hardly enough.

Up your water intake. This might help a great deal:thumbsup:

Yes, I am drinking tons of water, plus eating tons of protein. Both are supposed to help with contractions and swelling. I try to look at it as "It could be worse if I wasn't drinking/eating so much of the right stuff."

WOW i AM IMPRESSED!:giggle: I managed to get the EPO capsules up there but I had a hard time telling what was my cervix, normally i can tell but now that it is soft instead of firm and long it is more difficult to differentiate, not to mention how much bigger I am!!!

Oh and i have been having a lot more painful frequent BHs lately...... I am wondering if mine are more of the real thing these days though. She said my cervix was almost starting to dialate last thursday so I hopped on the treadmill this weekend :giggle2: and I think things are progressing nice and slowly. I was told to stay off it at 6mo. because it was causing contractions but I am 36.5 weeks now so no harm if it causes some activity!

I have long arms:blush: I guess that helps my reach lol. and I stopped walking at about 30 weeks because it was making me have lots of contractions too, but I just started again this week again as well, I figure I'm almost 35 weeks which should be fine, I feel better when I get a walk in!

I know!!! ME TOO! I dh that even if does not help me to get labor going I feel soooooooo much better when I exercise! the endorphins do wonders on my mood and general state of well-being! I was always a gym-aholic but had such bad morning sickness in the beginning and was so tired i stopped exercising. I feel so much better now and it will only make my labor easier as well as helping me to get back into shape and recover after delivery!

although the walking does definately cause a lot of "activity" :giggle2: I would love to go into labor! I am getting so impatient these days!

Hmm...my problem isn't so much long arms (I have a short torso anyways) as shortish fingers. Either that, or I started checking to late. All I feel is "soft".
I really don't have a clue, though, lol!:giggle:
A couple of weeks ago I *thought* I was having the contraction of a lifetime....it went on for well over 2 minutes, but I think it was baby flipping head down!:lostit: (Since baby is head down now.)

yeah I think I have short fingers too! hahaha :giggle2: and I thought I was "the contraction of a lifetine" a couple nights ago too but it was really just all the prunes I ate that day to counteract the iron in my vitamin, after I went to the bathroom it stopped. :roflmbo: I thought it was the real thing!

Actually I had contractions all afternoon yesterday but they stopped last night..... *sigh* I just wanna have this baby. I have an appointment today for an ultrasound, we will see how big he is.

When I was pg, I had them about every 20 min or so near the end. And they were very uncomfortable. I went in every week for a nonstress test to make sure everything was okay. The thing was, I wasn't very active; I had a desk job for 8 hrs a day and I went to bed at 8 with no exercising. I also drank a bottle of water (2 glasses) every three hours during work and three bottles of water during the night. Maybe it was an indication that something was wrong; Ellie's had 11 surgeries (with more to come) due to "differences" at birth. I'm not saying that's what will happen to anyone; I'm just saying that might have been MY body's way of telling me what was going on.

i think i had liek 20 BH last night!!! I haven't even noticed them until last Saturday, but now that I am noticing what they are, I think I did have them before they were just so light that I didn't actually feel them on the inside, they only made my tummy hard. Now I can def. feel them but they aren't painful..just interesting feeling I guess.

My BH don't hurt but they have always been really weird. I can feel them like pressure in my sinuses before I feel anything near my uterus. It's been that way with all 4 pregnancies. Anyone else?

Somebody might have mentioned this already, but round ligament pain can hurt like a beeyotch. When you have a BH, the round ligament pulls tighter and hurts even more. I thought I was having painful BH all the time, until I rubbed around on my belly and found that spots that were truly painful, sure enough they were in round ligament region.

I rubbed homeopathic arnica gel on my belly; it worked wonders!
