37 weeks on is not considered premature so it should be fine, but it is really your decision. IMO if you are starting to dilate and things seem to be progressing I would say it was ok, but you might wait a few more days to see if he comes on his own. We are planning on inducing at 38 weeks so DH can be home, but I don't know if I would go any earlier.

I wouldn't do a c-section unless it was an emergency. It's serious abdominal surgery-you say you don't want stitches like before-what do you think happens in a c-section? Not trying to be rude, just pointing that out.

With my daughter, I was in almost the same situation as you. My DS was 8lbs 3oz and I had a very rought labor w/ him. He was just too big for my small frame. So while pregnant w/ DD, my midwife told me all along she was going to induce.
When getting closer to the due date, we discussed some options to help my body towards readying for labor. I REALLY did not want to be induced at all and was terrified it would end in a C-section but also worried this baby would be too big for me.
I used EPO interally and topically from 34 weeks. I also used Red Raspberry Leaf supplements and at 35 weeks I started taking 5W Herb Blend.
At 36.5 weeks I lost my mucous plug and my water broke at 37 weeks exactly and after 4 hours of labor, DD was in my arms. She weighed 7 pounds exactly, so if she had stayed in the other 3 weeks probably would have been bigger than her older brother. I did tear at all and my midwife told me she was the "perfect" size for me to birth.
We also prayed a lot that she would be born at exactly the right time. I believe she was. She was even born on my mom's 50th birthday.
Her birth was so wonderful, it was literally a healing experience for me!
After my first labor, I don't think it was "just how I have babies." I definitely think these things helped my body prepare!! I would recommend all of it... but would say talk to your doc so he knows what's up. Maybe your baby will come early on his own. :goodvibes:

I had dd #3 at 36 and 6days, and she was just fine. I don't think 36-37 weeks is too early, it's better than having problems with delivery imo... However I'd want to do an induction for a vag birth not a c/s.

Even an induction at 37 weeks could result in a c-section, though. And honestly, I don't think it's worth the risk.
There are lots of things that can contribute to the tearing, and therefore lots of things you can do to avoid the tearing or episiotomy. Also 7.5 lbs is an average size for a baby, I wouldn't necessarily say 8 lbs was a big baby or anything to be scared of. My sister had a 6 lb 4 oz baby and tore.
Just know that these are recommendations by doctors. And, this is only an estimate. Even an u/s at this point can be off by a pound or more.
Really do your research into inductions and weigh the pros and cons.

DD#1 was born vaginally, she should have been a c-section at 8lbs 12oz but the ob was not paying attention. She has permanent nerve damage to her right arm from getting stuck. I also had to have some surgery to repair scar tissue that healed incorrectly around 6 week pp.
I elected to have a scheduled c-section with dd#2 because of what dd#1 and I both went through. She was born at 39 weeks 1 day and was 7lbs 7oz and was 18" long.........lol a little peanut.
I would just schedule the c-section so you are both safe, but that is my opinion.
Good luck!!
BTW ~ I believe at 37 weeks the baby will be fine :)

The only reason i cant have a baby over 8 is cause my pelvic bone has a tilt and is very small. Im built very tiny. Im not going full term with this one! I will not have a c- section unless the baby is in harm. So thank you very much for all the wonderful advice from all the great mama's! I guess we will just take it as it comes.

Yep, take it as it comes. Also, before any induction, make sure to ask how ripe your cervix is and if there's any dilation, and if the baby is engaged at all, and make sure to ask how likely a c-section is at that point as well.
