I cant for the life of me go to sleep at night and stay asleep. I goto bed about 9-9:30 and Im able to stay in bed until 12ish. Then its down hill from there. Tossing, turning, tossing, turning. Up, down, up, down. Finally able to doze back off around 7ish and DS gets up about 8:30ish. I take a nap when he goes down for his nap. Its from 11:30-2:30 but I back up an hour later not able to sleep.
We have a guest staying with us at the moment so I cant get up and do some of the stuff that needs to be done since he's sleeping in the living room. And then I have family that will be coming to stay with us around the first of Sept. My mom and neice are going to bunk in the room with my son and my sister will be on the couch but she hardly ever sleeps so Ill beable to get stuff done then and have someone to talk to.
But what are you ladies doing to get some sleep? I didnt think it was going to come on so soon I still have 4 weeks and cant go that whole time without sleep!

I'm sorry! I have nights like yours, but not every night. Maybe try staying up later? I know I could never go to bed at 9:30 at night. If I did I would be restless too. I aim for around 11:30 or so.
Maybe try getting a little exercise- I know, I'm 36 weeks so it's not easy. Maybe just a short walk in the evening?
Are you uncomfortable? Maybe get a body pillow or sleep with more pillows.
Are you hot? I sleep with a fan on me at all times. Just a small plug in fan, the white noise helps me sleep too. If it isn't on I can't sleep.
I hope you can get some rest! At least you are in the home stretch!

I had that problem with the first and some nights like that now, but it's better. I agree with the excersize thing- I bought a cheap little stair stepper thing earlier in this pregnancy (because it's way too hot for me to walk outside here on most days) and it has done me wonders- I sleep better and way less restless leg at night.
Also, the pillow thing- my hubby hates it, but I sleep with a body pillow kind of propped under my belly, an extra pillow on top of the body pillow to prop my arm so it doesn't get sore, and a huge fat pillow between my legs to keep my hips from aching. It's helped a lot, because the aches and pains don't wake me up.
I also try not to eat anything funny before bed- I had really bad reflux with DD 1 (like I would wake up with puke in the back of my throat just in time to stop it- gross, I know, and weird because I had zero heartburn and they usually go together) and that seems to help most of the time.
Also, and it might be too late in your pregnancy for you to justify spending $20 on something to help, but I would really suggest the "peaceful sleep" CD from hypnobabies.com. I haven't tried that specific CD, but I have other hypnobabies CD's and any of them helps me relax and get to sleep, and sleep better.
I also agree that you could try staying up later. I usually stay up until 11 or 12. DD gets up around 8, so as long as I sleep okay (which I usually do) I get around 8 hours. Of course, for the past month or so I have also been napping when she naps. But I figure I'm pregnant, I can do that!

I have discovered that if I take some calcium and magnesium in the evening (500 mg early in the evening, and 500 mg right before bed), I sleep a lot better. I sleep really well, actually--aside from the gazillion late night bathroom trips, that is.
I think I read that cal/mag is good for helping you sleep--or maybe it's just a placebo effect thing. But if I don't take it, I do wake up a lot more often and have a harder time going back to sleep.
The relaxation CD is helpful, too.

Ok, so I should do this every night so that I could get some sleep--but well that doesn't usually happen.
Take a relaxing bath/shower. Stretch your legs (as much as humanly possible at this point), it helps with the achey/jerky legs, prop up w/pillows (I love my snoogle, aka "my boyfriend"). If your ob says it's ok, try some tylenol pm--the sleep meds. in it are basically benedryl. Get a fan. If worse comes to worse--sleep in the lazy boy.

I just turn on the TV and usually watch it until I fall back asleep. I also have 3 pillows positioned around me to prop legs and the belly.
AND I stop drinking fluids 2-3 hours before bed. That way I only wake once to pee during the night. I power pack my fluids in the morning.
If it's your brain that's making you stay awake (ie anxiety, can't stop thinking about everything that needs to be done?), TV and books are good for shutting down those thoughts and helping to drift back off.
