I want to get the copper IUD. My postpartum visit is this Friday. My bleeding is gone and I haven't gotten af yet but I'm afraid that if I get the IUD, it will either jump start af or make me bleed anyway. Should I get it? Will it make af come? I know it doesn't have any hormones but I don't want to make myself bleed if you know what I mean. Thanks!

I have a Mirena IUD that I got when DS was 7 months old (would have gotten it sooner but DH was overseas so it wasn't really required!). I had already had my period at about 4 months postpartum, and I thought the insertion would make it come again too, but I only had some mild cramps and a tiny bit of spotting. I would say go for it now, it will save you another doctor's visit in a few weeks/months, and will be one less thing to worry about in the meantime.

I had a copper IUD previously, and have to tell you that my bleeding was a lot more every month than it was before, plus I started getting bad cramps:yuck: . Not my idea of fun! I thought about getting Mirena this time, but decided that an IUD was not for me! I hope it works out better for you:goodvibes: But the original question... I had no pp before and while I had some bleeding from the insertion, it did not cause my period to start. HTH!
