Well, another election with no shocking results. I am a little bummed that the Greens didn't get a single seat, but other than that we all knew what the outcome would be. I am wondering if that is why voter turnout was at an all-time low.
Did you vote?

Maybe low turn out because it was a forgone conclusion? I'm glad the NDP gained seats. I wonder if Elizabeth May didn't run against Peter MacKay she would have got a seat somewhere else. Obviously Dion couldn't lead the country, so... Harper again.

Although I absolutely agree with the pp'ers assessment of why voter turnout was low generally, it is interesting that my riding specifically had one of the lowest voter turnouts in the entire country. I do know that a lot of people were turned away because they did not have proper identification (i.e. with their home address on it) because we have post office boxes and don't get mail to our houses, so our driver's licenses are useless - you have to bring in a utility bill or something if you were not enumerated and a lot of people don't have that to bring either (many people living in one house and only 1 will have the bills in their name).
Here is an article about it from the Star Phoenix: http://www.canada.com/saskatoonstarphoenix/news/story.html?id=ca271ee5-6d5f-48f8-9de1-64e904a4af61

I was also disappointed that the greens got no seats. Especially given that they got around 9% of the popular vote....and that's not a lot less than the BQ, who ended up with a bunch of seats. Which brings me to my guess on why voter turnout is so low. I think it's beginning to dawn on people that their vote doesn't count.
