My sis had her baby at the doc and the doc told her that infants only need 700 calories a day. Now I've never heard of a calorie count for babies period so I don't know but has anyone else heard of this? :headscratch: 700 seems so low for a growing baby!

Hmmm, wonder how many calories my baby consumes since he eats every 2-3 hours still??

As much as he needs. :goodvibes:

The doctors probably know. When DD2 was in NICU, they told us an equation giving the number of calories/pound of current weight that a baby needs each day in order to grow. I don't remember how many it was, but it was pretty straightforward!

Sounds right. I know toddlers/preschoolers need 1,000 calories a day.

Like with anything though, it can vary I think. Some need more, some need less. It's just an average. I certainly don't count the calories for my child (heck I don't even do it for myself). Everything we feed DD is healthy and she takes in what she needs. :)

I've never heard of a number of cal. for kids. That's very interesting.

I just read somewhere the other day that 900 to 1700 is the range for toddlers. It depends on their height/weight and activity level where in the range they fall. So, 700 for an infant doesn't seem that far off.
