I'm planning on taking some lavender eo to add to the birthing tub while I am in labor but wanted to see what other mamas have tried/recommend for soothing scents during labor and delivery.
TIA! :hugs:

I am a doula and I place a drop of oil on a wet wash cloth on a moms forehead or neck. Make sure it is facing out (not directly on the skin). I stay away from putting peppermint, tee trea oil, or other 'hot" oils on the skin since it can't be removed and I also want to be extra careful that the oil doesn't transfer over to baby.
Since you mentioned "take" I'm assuming you are delivering in a hospital or birth center, they may have restrictions on candels. But you can put a drop of oil on a lamp or as you mention in the water. Or just rub the oil on the side of the tub/wall. The steam and warmth will help diffuse the scent.

That's awesome advice about not putting it directly on the skin. I wish someone had told me that before I put peppermint oil in my bath. It felt like my skin was on fire and I couldn't wash it off.

I do something very similar with my doula clients when they want to use scents to help with labor. I bring a ziplock baggie and some cotton balls. I put the eo on the cotton ball, never on the mom. If for some reason the scent is bothering the mom I throw the cotton ball into the baggie and zip it up... no more smell.

Update: We used some of the lavender/tt combo eo in the tub and it was great.
