How in the world do you wean a child that nurses to sleep?! I can't get her to go to sleep without it. Tips anyone?

How old is she? I am getting ready to start weaning my 11 month old. He nurses to sleep too.

I think my ODS was ready to wean, because I started by putting him to bed drowsy, and then 2 nights in a row (out of the house), we missed nursing, and he just started going to sleep on his own. I made sure we had a good bedtime schedule (bath, cuddle, read story, lay down, turn on music) as well.

She's 13 months old. She only nurses like 2-3x a day, and it's always when she's sleepy. I've had DH put her to bed the past two nights and she's done fine with him and gone to sleep without a fight. But, he's not here for naptime, so I've been working on that. Yesterday she did fine, but today she insisted on nursing. And she's gotten to where she pulls my shirt up when she wants to nurse. That can get quite embarassing!

I am having the same problem with my 15 month old! She will only go to sleep nursing. Only problem is, I'm 20 weeks pregnant and my milk dried up 2 months ago!! I can't get her to stop. She won't go to sleep any other way. Sorry, I'm not meaning to hi-jack, but I'd like to bump for you because I need similar answers.
One word of advice, my DD let DH put her to bed at night around 12 months old. I wish I had him so it more because now she will not let him put her to bed at all. Have him do it as much as possible to help her fall asleep without nursing.

Honestly, the way I did it was nurse, then if she was asleep I would wake her up a little bit then lay her down. She did cry for awhile but within 3 days she did great. Now she just lays down and goes night night on her own. HTH
