Hi everyone! I've never posted on here, but I decided this would probably be a great place to try to find what I'm looking for. We are begining to think about TTC. We have gone to an orinetation at the Midwife Center, and are thinking of using them this pregnancy. However my first was a c-section, so I am hoping for a vbac. At the midwife center I would be able to use them, but would have to have a hospital birth. This is fine by me (and more than fine with my husband!). I was just wondering if anyone knows of any other midwives that they would reccommend. Part of me feels bad taking up a spot at the midwife center that someone who would want to birth there could have, knowing how busy they are becomming as they are the only freestanding birthing center in the area. We live almost an hour south of Pittsburgh, so anywhere south of Pittsburgh (in Washington area, etc) would be even better, but we are willing to travel some to get the car we want. If you do have any reccomendations will you please PM me, as I don't check the boards often at all. Thank you so much in advance!! :goodvibes:

I lived in Pittsburgh and used the midwife center as my ob/gyn so to speak, but never birthed there...
I am not sure of anyone else in the area

Patrick Thornton is a wonderful midwife, he will do vbac's and he delivers at Magee. In fact is phone number is 412-421-vbac. I used the midwife center for my second and they are wonderful but I understand your thought about taking up a spot if you can't use the center. Patrick is wonderful also and there is also the Midwives at Magee. I am sure they do vbac's as well but I think they have made their guidelines for them a little stricter. Best of luck and I hope you get your vbac.

Not sure if you're still pregnant or searching for a midwife, but I went with the Midwives at Magee. I don't know their VBAC policy, but I loved them!

I live 30 minutes from Washington and you're right, midwives are few and far between! Does anyone know how far away they recommend you live? Will they not take mamas who live a certain distance away?

I had my dd with Family Nurse Midwives and my ds with The Midwife Center and I highly recommend both of them. I have done births with Patrick Thornton and the Midwives at Magee as a doula and love them all as well. Any of them are a good choice.

It takes me about 45 minutes to get to The Midwife Center and about the same for Magee. It took me an hour to get to the hospital that I went to for my first. I don't think it really matters unless you have a history of precipitous labors.

If you have a history of fast labors, they may recommend induction for liability.
