I was trying to wean ds2 gradually but he wasn't buying it. I know he was not ready to wean but it was neccessary. So, I finally just quit 'cold turkey' and after a bit of a rough night and slightly rough following day, he's taking his bottle quite well.
Now, to the question. That was Nov 12. I have been in soooo much pain with engorgement that I am miserable. I've used several cabbages, I've used ice, I've used binding but it still hurts! I was feeling pretty good today but them my right breast just filled up rock hard again. So I gave up tonight and pumped both sides- 4min for the left side that didn't hurt so bad and 8 min on the right side that did hurt so bad. How long did it take your body to reabsorb the milk that was in your breasts when you cold turkeyed? What else did you do to help your milk dry up? Oh, I'm taking parsely too.

great question. I hope someone replies. I'm leaning toward weaning my twins this way. I'm not really into dragging things out. Just do it and get it done. I was thinking, I might pump a few times a day and give it to them in their sippy cups and slowly decrease the pumping sessions and time. That way I don't have the engorgement. I don't have a great supply anyway though, so it probably won't be too bad even if I didn't. Anyway, I hope you supply gives up soon.

I haven't done it, but it can take weeks for the "engorgement" to settle down, and months for it to go away completely. Keep an eye out for mastitis. If you feel fluish, head to the doctor.

That long?? :banghead: Well, I have such a hard time keeping my supply in the first place, maybe it won't take very long for mine. Plus, it really takes a LOT for me to get engorged. Hopefully it won't be too bad. Thanks for the heads up. I wish I didn't have to be done, but for reasons I won't bother going into, it's really time. and :lostit:

I had to wean DS cold turkey because he wouldn't grow at all- they told me I could pump and fortify his milk which I tried but I kept getting mastitis repeatedly and I can't live like that :( I just cut out one pumping session every day or so. I pumped a bit whenever it really hurt. It actually only took a couple of weeks. I pumped 5 times a day, then four, and so on. I think it's easier on your body to just go as long as you can and when you get really in pain just to pump. It seemed like each time I would pump then I could go longer the next time if that makes any sense. If you refuse to pump at all it can get really really painful and awful and you can get breast infections. Everyone is different. I would just do your best to listen to your body. I've also heard that some mamas just go around without a bra and let their breasts leak to relieve pressure. I don't leak at all so that wasn't a good option for me.

My son Quite nursing on his own - cold turkey at 23 months old.
He was down to twice a day feedings ( Naps & Then night time) and then once in the middle of the night.
About 4 weeks ago we were going to bed and he was nusing and about 10 minutes in he stops and says "Mom this sides broken, change sides" so I switched over to the side he has never really liked anyway and about 5 minutes in he says "Side yucky" so he quite and has never asked again, now he just asks for "warmy milk".
My breast never filled or got sore till THIS WEEK, so 3 weeks into it they are now hard - lumpy - SUPER SORE, tiny drops of leakage yet not engorged and the right one (His Fave) has bright red patches on it..... I was thinking mastitis (Which I have never had) but...
I don't have flu like symptoms and have been on Antibiotics for 4 days now for Walking Pneumonia.....
Any Ideas???
Also AF visited Jan 25th (Right in the middle of the Cold turkey stoppage) and my cycle lasted 10 days - It is ALWAYS 5 days long and has been every 25-28 days for 13 months??????
Do ya think this is from the weaning ?? Anyone else have an odd cycle when they weaned??
