Hi, my sister is currently pregnant with her first baby. She wants to use cloth diapers. I am in Ontario, she is in Quebec, in Lac-St-Jean and she doesnt speak english..which makes it difficult as most of what we find is in english.

It was suggested on a surrogacy group that i'm on that i join this site for information on cloth diapering.

The problem that we're having is that without knowing anyone that has ever used this method of diapering, it seems there are so many kinds to choose from, and at the price that they cost, we fear that we'll order the wrong kinds.

We're wondering about everything from brand, to velcro or snaps? All in ones or with inserts? The ones that the baby can grow into with the one size fits all or sizes that grow with baby?

This last one brings another question...if it's better to get from extra small to large....how many diapers of each size would one need to comfortably cloth diaper?

What is the best way to wash these?

So far, i havent been able to find french groups online to get more info. My sister is not super computer savy, so i have been helping her a lot in finding more information between the computer and language barrier....but if someone could even explain it in french or might be able to share tips and info directly in french..it would save me from having to translate everything...i wouldnt mind putting her in touch with someone that has been using this method.

The ladies on the surrogacy group seem to find that the all in one's take way too long to dry and that it makes them a pain...

I would really appreciate any info available...of french sites that may explain in greater details....

perhaps the following websites might help you (maybe you can print it for her or email it to her) (the sites are in french)

www.bebedamour.com
www.calinetpopotins.com
www.merehelene.com
www.bebenature.ca

they all sell cloth diapers here in Quebec; some of them have some information on the different kinds.

I hope that helps.

Those websites (above post) should be helpful. clainsetpoptins have a good F.A.Q section and they are really nice there, she could call and speak to someone about specific questions. They've been helpful for me.

It is a bit overwhelming at first. Part of the problem is deciding what your budget is, trying things out and seeing what you like. When starting out, I would recommend buying used (if she's ok with that) and trying out a few different kinds of diapers. I discovered that I hate velcro and also side-snaps, but lots of other people seem to like them. I love, love, love fuzzi bunz pocket diapers, but they are a huge investment, and it's better to try for a bit and see if she'll even like cloth diapering. I lent out my entire stash to my younger sister for her dd and even though she was strapped for cash, did not like the extra work that the cloth diapers gave her, so she ended up going back to disposibles. I am a francophone if your sister wants to contact me, I can reply in French.
Bonne chance!

Peekaboo Bottoms has a test drive available. I just rented it. You get all types of cd's to try. If you google 'Peekaboo Bottoms test drive' it should come up.

I second this. I live in Ontario, But I ordered from her and she is great, Fast shipping and alot of communication when purchasing. Also I think with most sites you can contact the provider and just ask a few questions. I am sure that they would be more than willing to assist in any way.
Good luck!:goodvibes:
