DD is STILL awake!!! She's exhausted but does not want me to hold her and does not want to be laying down in her bassinet. She just wants to sit in her bouncy seat so I have her in there and I'm rocking the seat with my foot. I was falling asleep so I logged on to have something help me pass the time until she knocks out.

Awww, I miss the days of being up with a tiny baby. I know it's exhausting and hard when you're in the middle of it, but oh what a special time. Give her a snuggle for me -- in the morning once you've both had some sleep. ;)
It's only 10pm here, but I'm ready for the weekend!!

Hello...it's only 10 here, but I thought I'd pop in to say hi. We were really busy all day so I missed most of today's thread.
I am off to bed...#2 hardly slept last night which means I hardly slept last night. Hoping for more sleep tonight.

I  our special time alone together but she has always been SO independent and she is in one of her "moods" where she doesn't want to be snuggled  I've never seen a baby so young not want to be snuggled or held or rocked! She gets like that sometimes and tonight is one of those times. She just fell asleep in her bouncy seat so I'm headed to bed and taking her with me. I wish she would fall asleep alone and so easily in her crib but she will only do it in her bouncy seat and occasionally in her bassinet.

OK i need you to talk me out of (or possible into :roflmbo: ) organic snap BGOS. They look so nice! And with 3 kids it would be nice to have some AIO's around paticularly in the summer.......... Are they really that good? I'm seriously considering selling the FB I bought to buy these instead. Ih ave enoug hfabirc to just make whatever pockets I need But I haven't had good luck making AIO's. they either leak or take 4 yrs to dry. It looksl ike the BG ones have a similar soaker to bumkins so they shouldn't take forever to dry right? Plus I feel like I'm starting to get a bunch of random pockets and its annoying me. I want a unform stash for her to keep my life easy and not confuse DH. But at the same time, I'm trying not to go over the 300.00 I already spent on her diapers nad I have a feeling if I bought those I would go over.

Buy a turkey.
-make turkey one night
-save meat for sandwhiches
-make pot pie I got 3 last time and they freeze awesome
-make stock (again freezes awesome.)
-last time i made Yummyy turkey burrito's that someone sugested on here. They cam out awesome and even with the whole wheat wraps ended up under 5 $ for the meal.
-make stir fry or fried rice out of left overs (if you make rice the first night with teh turkey then its even easier. Rice will keep pretty well in teh fridge)
Buy ground beef (not to cheap though) make meat balls, meat loaf, and then just cook some of it to toss in sauce, make tacos, with etc. All that freezes well.
If you want super cheap meals go with beans!
Senate soup (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/senate-bean-soup-recipe/index.html)is one of my favorites! its so yummy and gives me an excuse to make bread. *if you throw the cooked meat right inthe freezer has soon has it cools it will freeze well*
here is a rice and bean reciepe we like. I have made it useing black or kidney beans, and using, dried or canned beans.
8 oz dry black beans (or about 2 cans)
1 teaspoon salt (if I use canned i don't add this)
1 med onion quartered ( I love onions so I do more)
1/2 of a sweet pepper choppped (can sub in celery)
1/4 cup Olive oil ( I swear I never add this part....LOL)
3 cloves garlic crushed
1 small bay leaf
1/8 tsp oregano
If using dry beans soak and rinse
add beans an 4 cups of water to a sauce pan ( if you use canned beans just add the whole can of beans juice and all)
add salt and simmer about 45 min until beans are tender (skip this if using canned)
add everything else and cook about 20 minutes until its thick and creamy. serve over rice.
using canned beans really does make this a super quick easy meal and cheap too.

I'm not sure why when I put a CD on #3 it looks fine, and when DH tries, it looks a little wonky. I'm not sure if the new fitteds are going to work (I made one more yesterday), at least for him. Plus they do not fully dry in the dryer in an hour, which while not a dealbreaker since the trainers don't either, is annoying. I guess I need to make some tweaks. A little bigger, fewer layers, with flap doublers (two thin ones), maybe longer tabs. DH is okay with putting in doublers, but not good at the placement - part of the wonkiness, I think.
Seriously, how hard is it to put on a diaper? He has no problem with sposies.

OK mamas....I need some advice........I JUST got a dozen GMD light browns (UB) from a mama and they look GREAT...washed yesterday in regular diaper laundry and stacked them into the pile along with all my other GMD's. Last night I put a GMD light brown on DD for overnight, and this morning I went to change her........OMG SERIOUS STINKY PEE DIAPER. Like I think the ammonia scent peeled the paint off the walls and made my eyes water. Thank goodness it had two doublers (cause its overnight) and none of the diaper was touching her bum.
so NOW what do I do? There are 6 gmd light browns mixed in with the "offenders" so I have no way of knowing which are which, so whatever I am going to "do" will be done to 18 diapers, not just 12. :banghead:
should I vinegar soak? Wash on hot? Use dish liquid detergent? WHAT DO I DO? FTR I use a top loader.

Morning ladies! So glad it's the weekend - I've had to work late the last two nights thanks to basketball season. When you are the band director and your team has a home game, you are expected to have the band there. Thursday, I had just enough time to drive home (25 miles) nurse Amelia, throw a couple diapers in the diaper bag, and drive back. I just missed the singing of the national anthem, but my student is experienced enough, I wasn't too worried. I'm just barely keeping up most days with expressed milk, and sometimes I'm not at all so when I can come home to get her, I normally do. I'd like to bring both girls, but Sadie doesn't sit still well for any length of time, and I can hand Amelia off to one of my co-workers or one of the band parents while the band plays.
WOTB: Amelia - still asleep in a sposie, Sadie - nothing - dh took her diaper off when he got up a few minutes ago. I admit I should have taken it off sooner, but we were vegging in front of the TV and computer.
WOTA: I'd like to do some sewing and decluttering today. I had an idea for making some coordinating sets for the girls for Valentine's day. I have some pink fleece sitting unused that I could make a couple pairs of longies out of. I'll do hammock soakers even though they make have Thirsties covers on if we go to town. I'll embellish a couple t-shirts and the longies with hearts cut out of some woven cotton I have. DH doesn't want matchy matchy outfits so I have to figure out something to make them just a little different. I also have some "natural" colored fleece that I could incorporate somehow as well. I may also make some QSFW diapers without the snaps. I'm liking no fasteners on my diapers that I sew lately.
We were expecting our income tax refund yesterday and it didn't come. We had to license our van and it overdrew our account. DH gets paid Tuesday so we have to make do until Monday at least on groceries. I might be able to get a few things today if we have to. (Our local grocery store is a mom-and-pop place that doesn't process checks very quickly.)

:hugs: here's a question; does he "want" to change diapers and use cloth? Is he one of those guys who does something "wrong" just so they won't have to do it? For ds and dd1 dh changed LOTS of diapers. With ds we used cloth fitteds and he was all for it (we just used them until he was 6 months and outgrew them and then we stopped.) this time around he rarely changes her....he says he doesn't like the snappi, and has no idea how it works. I TRIED showing him and he won't even WATCH. I got him some "daddy diapers" (some cheap Kushies AIO's off craigslist) and he uses those when I am not home (on Tuesdays he is home alone with 3 kids for less then 2 hours) but that is the ONLY time he changes her.
It is frustrating.:banghead:

I liked them a lot when I had them, I miss mine now, DF said he would like it if I got 4 just for him and his mom when she has her... I am considering it... But IDK... They do dry fairly fast for an AIO I think since the soaker part is "split up" it takes a LOT less time then if it was all sewen in together! They are nice and worth the $$ IMHO! HTH

Diapersewingdivas never sent me an approval to get in, so I don't know if that other diaper is the same as the flat thing. I give up.
DH just has problems with kiddie clothes in general. He has a lot of problems putting clothes on them that FIT. He prefers to put them in things that are too big because it's easier. I think the CDs are the same way. The problem is if you put on a CD that's too big beyond a certain point then it is not effective, especially on a mobile baby. I'm sure he'd like tabs that meet in the middle, but then when baby runs off the sides would sag down. To be fair I didn't put a doubler in the fitted when I took the pic yesterday, I will try it with the other one today and see how much the doubler makes a difference in the fit.

Good morning ladies. DS woke up TOO early today- 5:30am. I thought if I nursed him, he'd go back to sleep. He tricked me. He didn't go back to sleep. DH got up with him anyway since they are going to a "Men's Breakfast" at our church. DH was so excited to bring the little guy. :)
I have been really tired these last few days. I think that it's my body telling me to rest up for delivery. So, I've been trying to finish up a pair of longies. I found a free pattern and they look SO tiny. I mean, unusually tiny. I just hope that they fit because I am NOT starting over. I still need to knit up 2 hats and 2 prs of booties. All this business of NOT finding out the gender of this baby is really irritating! DH needs to learn how to knit if he insists on NOT wanting to find out!
DD and I have reservations at a local English tea room. I am so excited to take her. As of right now, she has no idea. My DD is a girly-girl all the way and she is going to be thrilled. Since DH is having a boys' morning out, DD and I will have a girls' afternoon out. It will be a special time for us before the baby is born.

Happy Saturday morning everyone. How are you all doing today? I am officially living in the house of ick. E's cold has moved to his chest and he has a hacking cough and is wheezing, so we had to break out his Ventolin. Very fun. And DP has also come down with the same cold, although at least she can take some medicine for it. But I am surrounded by coughs and sniffles. Wonder how long it'll be before I get sick too.
We didn't have the best of nights, but considering E is feeling so poorly, I suppose it could have been worse. I'll keep my fingers crossed for good napping today. Nap time isn't that far off.
WOTA: Measure E and get started on my first ever pair of knit shorties. I'm going to use the Itchy Fingers pattern and knit them out of Lamb's Pride worsted. We'll see how that goes. Other than that... just survive the day!
WOTB: Toddle-ease with a flannel flat as a doubler, under recycled longies.
OK i need you to talk me out of (or possible into :roflmbo: ) organic snap BGOS. They look so nice! And with 3 kids it would be nice to have some AIO's around paticularly in the summer.......... Are they really that good?
I won't be talking you out of it... if I was sure that they'd be big enough to fit E I would definitely like to try one (off FSOT.) But I don't know that they'd fit, so I'll wait until perhaps I have a newbie to try them with.

I love football! We'll be going to a friend's house (who has a 52 inch TV!) for the Superbowl tomorrow. Sadly, our team (the Jets) isn't in the running, so we'll be cheering for the Steelers all the way. I'm super excited!

ok I got the popcorn cleaned :giggle:. Washed dishes, ran and emptied dishwasher, threw some laundry in, folded diapers, set aside some more to sell, pumped a bottle for when I grocery shop later. While I was doing all that the kids did an art projected and ate crackers inthe living room, so now my house actually looks worse then when i started. :giggle2:.

 good afternoon! (we atleast it is here) I was thinking of multi qouting but couldn't pull it off so I'll just "comment" here and there! I went to the Super Walmart last night and spent $111 on food :thud: I love having great food in the house! The kids are now watching Alvin and The Chipmunks movie for the billioneth time....
FOr the BG Organic AIO's w/ snaps...I know that Faith and Steph have some so hopefully they can help out with the questions about those...I really want to try 1-2 as well so no talking you out of it here...
For quick and easy great freezing meals...how about stuffed shells or lasagna...meatloaf...meatballs....
as far cooking a whole turkey goes...use an oven roaster bag! It is the easiest...my Dad uses one every Thanksgiving...keeps the whole turkey moist and juicy...all you do is take a tbsp of flour and put it in the bag, puff it up and shake the flour around so that it covers the whole inside of the bag (this will help the turkey not stick to the bag) then lay the bag in a roasting pan (we use a throw away alum. foil roaster, real cheap here at Walmart) Lay a few stalks of celery in the bottom of the bag and then put your thawed turkey in on top (celery acts like a little rack to keep turkey off of the bottom of the bag) then rub seasoning and butter on turkey to taste...tie up bag and cook as directed....so simple! I actually bought 2 frozen turkeys at Thanksgiving on deep discount just so that I would have them for later to do this too  (my mom gets a free one from work and is a vegetarian...so my Dad and the kids and I enjoy it for Thanksgiving!)

I got my kitchen good and clean today! I just need to mop the floor, and clean the rest of the house. I might be lazy though instead. I also need to go to the store and get a quote for dh about how much I'll need to buy diapers for the new baby. I'll be using some of our tax money for that.
I've been fighting amonia since we moved here. I just finished stripping w/ Dawn, so I'll let you know how that turned out.
WOTB: DH put an ATD AIO on DS. :D
How fun!

I'm watching it, but I could care less about football. I just have a funny story. As for small diapers...if you know how to sew (like replace elastic and some velcro) and like fitteds, I have nearly 2 doz size small fitteds you can have FFS. I bought them new from a local Canadian company, used them for DS and stored them for 8 years, pulled them out for dd2 and elastics are gone :banghead: They would fit from newborn to about 4-5 months (more depending on size of baby...mine are always porkers lol). If you don't want them another B2B mama can have them. Heck I won't care if someone takes them FFS, replaces the elastic/velcro and sells them for a profit:giggle2: I just don't want to throw them away.
I think I am going to do a vinegar soak, then rinse, a touch of bleach in a rinse, then dawn strip load with vinegar rinse, and clear rinses and see how that works....They are second hand diapers and I usually do a bleach rinse (like a touch) followed by several regular washes...this time they just looked SO pristine I lost myself and didn't :banghead:

I  my BG OS organics. We get a little funky wing droop sometimes because dd is so skinny but it still stays snug arounds her and we can even use it overnight!! (When she STTN like normal. The only thing that got rid of our amonnia stink is a very hot water soak with a capful or 2 of bleach...I have a TL and only had to do it one time....soaked in super hot water with a capful or 2 of bleach, then rinse, then reg wash with half washer full of hot water, half washer full of warm water and 1/4-1/3 soap for what is recommended for reg laundry and some baking soda (I don't measure but assume it is somewhere around 1/4 of a cup) and reg rinse...then in the dryer!
I used to use vinegar in the wash but found that it was making for crunchy diapers....someone also mentioned that vinegar is bad for elastic :headscratch:
I have to confess other then nursing the baby and changing her diapers I haven't done anything but make some breakfast this morning  and post a few replies here and there....
Breakfast was grilled ham and cheese *yum* lunch will be sandwiches for the kids and grapes or carrot sticks and yogurt and fruit for the baby....and milk of course!
WOTB: nothin' DS took the baby's diaper off and I haven't replace it with anything yet! She's been on meds for the past 8 days so we are airing out to keep the rashy's away...time to put a diaper on though before we have puddles on the floor!

Bethann, my NB stash for Ian was 3 small thirsties and 3 small BSWWs, and they both fit him from the beginning on the smallest setting. He was 8 lbs tho. I don't have a pic of him in the BSWW (how did that happen, I take pix of everything?) but I do have a pic (http://www.diaperswappers.com/forum/images/1/bb00b0200e4b6f8501778dec0d5843b6.jpg) of him in the small thirsties, and it runs just a tad bigger than the bummis.
So my official "expert" opinion on newborn covers, FWIW (giggle), is if you have babies less than 8 lbs, get the XS of either Bummi or Thirsties. If you have babies 8lbs +, then you can skip the XS and fold it down a bit during the umb stump stage. I have never tried other brands, like Prowraps or whatever, because I can buy the other two brands easily and locally new at the CD store or used on CL.

Good luck. We normally bleach our prefolds when they start to get the ammonia stench. We haven't had to do that in a while since Sadie is PLing and mostly in undies or naked at home or sposies when we go out and when she sleeps. We have a FL and well water with lots of stuff in it.
So far today, I've folded some laundry, unloaded and reloaded a dishwasher, and packed up a crib set that I'm intending to sell. I also called the local consignment shop to see what season of clothes they are accepting (winter) and when they'll start accepting the next season (spring clothes in late February) as well as whether they would accept the crib set. We'll have a children's consignment sale locally in 3 months, but I don't want to wait that long to sell everything if I can help it.
? If you were going to sell a gender neutral crib set on FSOT, how much would you ask for it and which category would you list it in? I did purchase most of it second-hand to create a complete set. I have a comforter, a bumper, 2 crib skirts, and 3 sheets (plus one more to throw in if I can find it) so it is a complete nursery set. It is in pretty good condition, but does look a little worn. What do you all think?

if I were CDing from day one I would probably buy some newborn ones....BUT I would get them off FSOT for sure...because they don't fit that size that long, and the are likely not to have seen much use at their prevoius home :giggle: I would only have a few NB ones, and a stash of smalls.
I prefer wool, but if I were having another baby I'd get newborn PUL covers and wool starting at size small

I use the Sheepy Pants pattern, it's not free, but it's very easy to read and has lots of options. For shorties you use the same pattern and just shorten the inseam. For soakers I've only just modified a skirtie pattern, but I know that Sheepy Pants also has a soaker pattern.

Thanks! I think I will probably get 3 of each size. Levi was 8.5 lbs, but I was kind of shocked that he was so big and I wonder if the 60lbs I gained had anything to do with his size. I'm going to try harder to not gain ridiculous amounts of weight this time, and maybe that will result in a smaller baby.

I bought mine used...is it possible they were an older version that runs smaller? Of course #3, just like the other two, gained more than an ounce a day for the first three months so an XS would have probably only fit for two months. Assuming they really only go up to 12 lbs. See, I never bought any XS, because my neighbor had twins four months before me and had a huge assortment of XS pul covers I could borrow. As it turns out, by the time they outgrew them, #3 hard already outgrew them and outweighed them a good four pounds or more. I guess YMMV!

Mine are left over from Ben and are 3yo and are just bulky and poofy. I wouldnt reccomend the prorap newborns if babies are big though, the bummis have a longer life span. :)

I want to knit, am watching youtube videos, but need to know what needles I need (I am assuming circular ones). I have a basic learn-to-knit kit which has some starter straight ones, but beyond that I am clueless
I am using the Tiny Birds Organic longies pattern, and it's free and knit flat (instead of in the round)--I bet you could just make it shorter to be shorties.
I'm trading do-your-laundry here for a friend helping me figure out how to knit because it's not going very well yet :giggle: .

Shirley-
That last round of antibiotics almost drove me to buy flushable liners. We did use sposies from 4am to about 8am, when he routinely poops anyway, which helped some. I used my plain PFs (not the tshirt ones or any of the fabric fitteds/prefitteds) with my sweatshirt doublers. The sweatershirts they were made from were 50/50 blend, so the poo just rolled right off when I sprayed them, and they were much thicker than the fleece liners I cut up so they were easier to spray in the toilet. And there were a couple of days I caved and used my 5 pockets because I just couldn't stand spraying any longer than I had to. And luckily for me I just bought three pairs of old navy microfleece pants for him on clearance right before the meds, and we used those the whole time instead of wool. And of course everybody knows I changed him on newspaper every time, because he's at that age he tries to get away during a change anyhow.
The sposies did not contain poo well, but I didn't have to rinse them. The damage was one stained PF and one stained (not bleached out, just stained) fitted that I used a day after the meds stopped. I used baking soda in every wash to deal with the smell since I use Country Save, which has no perfumes in it. It was not fun, but I understand now why people here don't like to use sposies either because they can create more laundry with blowouts. I think I may try disposable liners next time.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that Ian primarily ate bananas, applesauce, rice cereal, and yogurt as his solids (other than crackers, toast and cheerios) for those ten days in an attempt to thicken the poo, and it worked fairly well. I do this with all my kids, except the older ones can eat peanut butter and cheese too.

Oooooow!! Dh and I have both bled Snappi blood :giggle: (but dd2 chews on them. Silly sensory kid).
Today's craftiness!
My first T-shirt PF (this is *before* I trimmed all the excess off the edges :giggle: so it's very messy! I also didn't cut it evenly because the shirt wasn't big enough so it's double-sewn and very wonky, but it will look fine when pinned on as the edges will all be hidden.)
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a335/dragonhuntress00/Blinkies/100_3485-1.jpg
And dd's princess castle blanket is done! Also not perfect but I was cutting blanket 1, when dh asked me to make it blanket 2, so then I cut out more to make it into that and then dd asked it to be blanket 3, and then while trying to make that work I got the castle idea and it became blanket 4, and then I changed the plan again when it wasn't a big enough blanket so it ended up as blanket 5. So this blanket's existence from the initial pieces into this is due to a combination of sheer willpower and some divine intervention, I think :giggle2: It's somewhat quilted too, just along the major stitch lines and the edges.

yeah, the only advantage of sposies is not cleaning the diaper, they don't usually contain explosions. If not sposies, try a tee shirt liner, a thick liner, as the flushable liners won't keep it off the dipe (I found it soaked through and stained the dipes anyway). and really, soaking the dipes in a bucket of cold water with alittle oxyclean before washing kept mine from getting any stains

Morning ladies - my qotd - do I get premiums or trimmed toddlers? This is viv in a premium - I believe its a LL (mommyscott would know) - it measures 13 x 17.5. I like with center width between her legs but I'm concerned about the overall width - its hard to get it on tight and have enough overlap. Its folded down in the back about 1.5 - 2 inches (I don't mind that, I like the way it contains messes) but how does it look to you? Is it a good fit? I'm worried she'll outgrow the width? But I'm worried a trimmed toddler would be too wide across the center panel? I know I am overthinking this :giggle:
Becky - :hugs: I've been bitten a few times by snappies because DH always puts them in the diaper bag with the dirty dipes. ouch.

Is Vivie walking hardcore yet? I have found since Ian started cruising hardcore, pulling himself up and down etc that he has slimmed down quite a bit. Of course I guess it could have been the antibiotics, but most babies do slim down a little as they end the golden age of cute but not very mobile. That being said, I do love my LL toddler PFs on him now when I snappi. If I pin, I like the trimmed GMD rainbows (similar to trimmed toddlers, right?)
Oh, and the GMDs are wider across the center, but not the LL.

Not walking yet - she is 7 months and itching to go though. She is very squat - short and chunky. Though she is getting around the room via rolling and some bizarre push up move by which she flattens herself out, pushes up on her arms and throws herself to one side :giggle: I am tempted to just get a bunch of premiums and be done with it.

I think Vivie and Ian are about the same diaper size, since I use her soaker pattern for him, even tho he's probably a lot taller. I have 14x16 GMD rainbows, and the LL premiums, and the LL toddlers. I can snappi all three, but the first two are a little more challenging. I can pin the first two beautifully, no foldover with the first, but I can't pin the toddlers because the wings are too wide to pin a mobile baby. I don't use the premiums on him much because they are the primary PF for #2 (trifolded, of course).
I posted pix (http://www.diaperswappers.com/forum/images/1/4d8bd107caedfe302ea746eaea872855.jpg) (and more pix (http://www.diaperswappers.com/forum/images/1/1c42f6403934ae1682fbf73e7f709938.jpg))of all three a while back. But they don't match what the mfg said they'd shrink to, so be aware of that.

personally at that age i wouldnt go toddler... but i have never seen the toddler smalls, just reg toddlers. and they are way wide in the crotch. i do use them for night and nap sometimes. but they are rarely used. IME, they do slim a lot when they crawl/walk. and i think it would be hard to cruise w all that bulk in the crotch. and when they get taller they slim even more. do you sew at all or know someone who does? cheryls extended pfs look easy and a great alternative... especially if it means not buying more. and you can take it off later if you want. premiums will fit my 30lb 3yo who is pl'd. obviously IF we used them for real, we would def need a thick doubler, but width wise they fit. and she wears a 4T. does that help? i think they are in this chunky phase only for a little while... it sucks in the meantime though.

OK i need you to talk me out of (or possible into :roflmbo: ) organic snap BGOS. They look so nice! And with 3 kids it would be nice to have some AIO's around paticularly in the summer.......... Are they really that good?
I really like them. They work really, really well on DD3.
so NOW what do I do? There are 6 gmd light browns mixed in with the "offenders" so I have no way of knowing which are which, so whatever I am going to "do" will be done to 18 diapers, not just 12. :banghead:
should I vinegar soak? Wash on hot? Use dish liquid detergent? WHAT DO I DO? FTR I use a top loader.
Oh seriously, look at those chubby little legs. And the picture of her in the soaker you recently posted. That baby of yours is SO CUTE!! Okay, they'll kill me if they see this someday, but both of my first two had bigger bottoms at 6-7 mos old than 18-mos old. :giggle2: Once they got up and moving their rise shrank, their thighs shrank, and suddenly things that had barely fit, fit great again. I'd stick with what you have until she's crawling and walking. Is that a toddler snappi? If not, you might get one to make them a bit easier to snappi in the meantime.
WOTB: Just about to put on a BG Organic AIO for church.

I'd stick with the premiums too for Vivie- unless you are really wanting something for more absorbency at nap or night - of course this is coming from a person who never ended up needing toddlers before pt-training so far. I think you actually still have quite a bit of width left looking at it - a lot longer than it probably seems - at least in my experience
but you could always grab 1/2 dz toddlers or so if the budget isnt as issue and see what you think

there was a lot more on my agenda today and yesterday then I wanted :yuck:
yesterday we went to Aldi, the Super Walmart again for the things I forgot and CVS....
today I took the girls to 2 more CVS stores and the regular Walmart....
My oldest DD has an ear infection that was in 1 ear and now seems to be in both, my DS and the baby are almost done with their antibiotics...DD3 has been acting up...
Today I made Chicken and Dumplings soup *yum*....I had gotten a whole rotisserie chicken for cheap at the Super Walmart, 3 containers of chicken stock (I usually use 2 containers and bouillon cubes but we were out of them and I couldn't find anymore) 1 small bag of frozen mixed veggies, 1 can of corn, 1 can of mushrooms, and 2 batches of dumplings (I use Bisquick or Jiffy baking mix for this, 2 cups mix and 2/3 or so cups of milk) It is so quick and easy....and you could actually add rice or noodles if you didn't want to do dumplings....my mom adds rice instead of dumplings and Matzah balls....(actually my mom makes it with vegetable stock and puts the chicken on the side so you can add your own because she doesn't eat meat...)
other then that I was thinking about making Lasagna for tomm night that way when we get home I can just pop it in the oven while the kids do their homework....I still have to do laundry and now add diaper laundry...I have avoided the laundry like the plague this weekend! I hate to fold and there is a load that has been sitting in the dryer waiting for me...:yuck: my bf was nice enough to sweep and mop the floors and finish up the last of the dishes left in the sink...I loaded the dishwasher yesterday and washed 1 load...I'll probably get the kids to clean the bathrooms this evening....now trying to get the baby to take a nap....
WOTB: fitted diap, knit shorties (it's 51 degrees F here, and even warmer inside) and a LS t-shirt and socks...wrapped in a blanket..

My had frozen commercial chicken and dumplings last night, and I was trying to remember how to make dumplings at home - and I totally forgot about biscuick! Thanks mama, we will be having that this week. Maybe even tonight....
Steph, I had a chance to meet Nissi of Sapo Verde at a local DS meetup last year (before I knew anything about wool) and she is SO nice, has the cutest kid. Her stuff is amazing. It's a good thing she lives like more than an hour away or I'd be dropping off all kinds of woolies on her to embellish, spending money I don't have! Apparently I live on the "pockets" side of town, and all the *cool* people that use prefolds and wool live on her side. ;)

NIpping in after snow play - surely someone wants these? too cute I love BB her stuff is awesome.
Thanks everyone for the pf feedback - I hadn't thought to try a toddler snappi - have to see if I have one.
That is so cute. I would love to bid on it, but DH says no to wool.
so heres a QOTD: Are you picky about stains?
I never reallty worry about stains on prefolds. It seems like eventually they wash out. But I really don't like stains on other diapers or the covers. :yuck: Why its ok for prefolds is beyond me LOL.
I don't worry about stains at all, but we use prefolds most of the time. I'm slowly stitching up a stash of fitteds to keep in the diaper bag, but mine just aren't as absorbent as the prefolds. I've converted a couple prefolds to prefitteds, but they just aren't quite right yet. Good thing we started with 3 dozen premiums so if I mess up one or two, it's not the end of the world. They are usable around the house, just not quite ready for out and about. I'd like to find something that fits both girls until Sadie decides to start telling us when she has to go to the bathroom while we're out and about and use the big potty. Even with the fitted diapers I have made, I don't worry about stains. So far, I have had no luck with FSOT, and there isn't much of a market for cloth diapers around here in the boonies of Nebraska.

My dog ran away this morning...again....so hubby wasted an hour AGAIN searching for him. He is home now but I am considering trying to rehome him because things are just not going well with him. We have had him for nearly 5 years and he has always been such a good dog
:hugs: :hugs: I hope you guys figure out what will be best.
Also that yellow diaper compliments her skin tone so well! :)
:hugs: I'm running away today too. Well just to the grocery store BY MYSELF and I'm going to get a pedi and and eybrow wax while I'm out. I really need it for my sanity.
I think the yellow is awesome too. Have fun at the pedi!!!
Hi ladies!

Well figured out why the baby wasn't napping...she had a dirty diaper! I changed her right before she laid down but apparently she was holding out on me :giggle: So I changed her and nursed her and I believe she is finally sleeping! Time for mama to sneak in a nap! tt you ladies a bit later!

AWW Bennett Is SO cute!
We are getting ready to leave to go to my uncle's home for a Superbowl Party, I am SO excited, they live about an hour away so we don't visit as often as I would like too!
QOTD: I am a FREAK about stains... Well mostly with my fitteds, I dont worry so much about my prefolds for some reason (Proboly cause they cost less) But I Worry HEAVILY about my fitteds, ANY time DD poops Diaper is Dunked, Sprayed, and then soaked in the basement by the Washer until wash day! I dont usually get stains, once summer comes though I do half line dry half dyer...
ETA: I also go down and change the H2O the diaper is soaking in every day until I wash Diapers to also help prevent stains

Well, my amonia problem is not solved. I'm not sure what to do. I'm switching to Tide to wash the diaps in, but I don't think that will solve the problem as much as keep it from coming back. I need to get the amonia out of them still. So far I've tried Dawn and bleach, and I can't do vinegar because of hard water. I really don't know where to turn when bleach wont do it!

try multiple hot washes, no soap nothing. Honestly, with hard water dawn builds up, so that may be contributing. sorry you are dealing with this :hugs: I once had an amonia problem with hemp gad inserts I I ende dup stripping them withhot water washes with a little clr (to soften the water) and that worked after like ten washes

YES!! I can't stand poo stains. I'm actually more lax about something like a spaghetti stain on the outside of a prefold -- I usualy strip DD down to her diaper when she's eating spaghetti -- but poo stains gross me out. I live in a place with very little sun too so it's hard, but I've found stains can often "sun" out even when it's overcast thankfully. I'm always so disappointed when I buy a used diaper and it comes stained. I usually just turn around and sell it at that point. That's how much stains bother me. :o

Still alive, just barely. Trying to avoid speaking to DP as much as possible, so as not to get int a fight. So far, so good.

I'm not really picky about stains, as long as they don't show when the diaper/cover is being worn. I mean really, I'm the only one who really sees the inside of the diapers anyhow, so I figure it doesn't matter much. That said, I only really have two diapers with stains at the moment. A toddler prefold with yellow stains that were there when I purchased it, and a brown edge with a huge stain from blueberry poop.

I've gotten good results with the multiple-hot-washes-with-no-soap, and some people do the same thing but in their dishwasher. I could never do that. I don't trust my dishwasher to clean it all well enough that I could ever put dishes in it again :giggle:
AOTD: I don't really care about stains. Dh isn't a sprayer fan and the one we tried said we had the "5%" of toilets with a different size connector so it leaked at the connector and just didn't work out. And after all, it's just the part she poops on. And she is going to poop on it many, many more times. So I don't mind if has stains on it there. I don't like anything that shows on the outside, of course. And really scary poo is dunked or even put straight in the wash.
WOTB: Nothing. She has a super-dry rash, almost excema-looking all over her bum so she is bottomless. I spread PFs all over the floor to catch anything :giggle: and slathered lotion all over her.

I have not met a stain I could not get out of a diaper yet, even ones that came used with stains. Clothing stains, sure, like that supposedly "washable" kids paint they sell that does not wash out, but diapers no problems. The only diaper "stain" I haven't gotten out is one dark tshirt PF that bleached where the poo was, when #3 was taking antibiotics.
I have gotten lax about stains tho. Usually they come out in 3-4 washes anyway, so I don't try that hard anymore.
I am eating a bowl of "homemade" chicken and dumplings now. I only had boneless breasts, so I added a stick of butter in leiu of drippings, and I did the bisquick dumplings. Not bad.

I second the lanolin....dd2 had super duper dry skin all over and I warmed up the tube of lanolin in a cup of warm water and then rubbed it all over her. I held her for a while with no clothes on, then put on the infamous "oil sleeper" (the one sleeper I use when she has had stuff put on her skin so as not to spoil everything lol) and in the morning there was such a big difference.
Try olive oil too:goodvibes:

ok update on the stinky diapers - I finally did them today....(well only one had been used, and it was just pee)
I soaked them in the sink with hot water and about a third of a jug of vinegar...and you could see the soap suds just fly off of them :yuck:
So after they soaked in the vinegar water for a while (like 20-ish minutes) I drained the sink and kept rinsing them over and over. Then I took them to the washer downstairs (made 2 trips with them in the spaghetti pot) :giggle: and filled the washer up on a hot presoak/small load with a heavy splash of bleach and then dumped the diapers in (18 of the GMD light browns) and soaked them for about 40 minutes, then spin cycle, then a wash with a tiny splash of tide (like TINY lol) and an extra rinse at the end. When I took them out I could smell nothing :yay: and they are in the dryer right now, almost done. We will use them exclusively once they are dry and I will sniff them after each change to determine if it was 100% successfull. If not, the next step will be with some liquid dish soap.

Argh. DH is not being helpful. I suppose bothering him during the superbowl is not the best option, especially when he's watching the kids. We have Tivo, so it's not like he misses anything.
We have 8+ tote bags that need to be stored somewhere accessible. 2 school bags, 2 daycare bags, 3 diaper bags (1 me, one DH, and one "just taking the baby somewhere" bag), and #2's napmat bag. We have no coat closet or mudroom. We put hooks by the door, and shoe racks (asian house, we don't wear shoes inside), and they are ALWAYS full of jackets, raincoats, hats, umbrellas, purse, etc. and have no room for bags or it would impede opening the front door. The logical place to me is do some hooks in the office, near the front door, but DH is not having it. I can't have them out in the living room, that would just look awful and be dangerous for the kids. And I know as the kids get older, there will be more bags - soccer bags, etc. Can't store bags in the garage, because this is Texas and they'd get roaches.
I'm going to override DH and install some hooks in the office when he's not home. Phooey on him!

I have a very special set of 3 Christmas Tree Ornaments, from Hallmark, that I love...seriously love. They are really big and hang at the very top of our 9 foot christmas tree, out of reach of small hands. Well this year one got broken when DS threw a toy AT the tree :banghead: out of all the ornaments on the tree (which are ALL GLASS BULBS) this is the only one that broke. I am so devistated. If all the ornaments except these 3 had broken I'd have shrugged it off.
I found one on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110342935983&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNA:US:1123
it ends very soon...doing a search of completed items I discover they usually sell for less then this...but don't come up that much. I am going to refrain from buying this one *taking all my will power* and set my ebay search to email me when new matching ornaments are listed.
I am so upset about this ornament  I know it is silly, but I don't really have lots of "nice things".
So far today I have cursed the dog more times then I want to admit to  (ok not real cursing, just mumbling under my breath and yelling)

i like olive oil for irritation type rash and as a gentle cleaner for.. ahem... girl parts... but for serious dry skin lanolin is great... sticky at first, but great. be prepared for naked snuggle time while it absorbs. or really you could do a bath with it.... never thought of that. just :giggle2: do her like you would do woolies... only a bigger container:giggle2: seriously though, if you add enough baby soap to it, it disolves pretty good.

I have to find a set for DS's closet and a set for the baby's closet....we had to take her door off of the hinges because the room was too small to open and close the door with the crib there and I didn't want the crib in front of the window :yuck: I'm thinking of using twin bed sheets  they are sooo cheap and are already hemmed
So far today I have cursed the dog more times then I want to admit to  (ok not real cursing, just mumbling under my breath and yelling)
and the kids have had multiple time outs and the Nintendo was unplugged and put away :hairpull: The older 2 are in bed now and hopefully will go to sleep soon
:hugs: sorry about your ornament...I know how you feel...I have the entire set (or almost the whole set, not sure what I'm missing) of the Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer ornaments that are heavy and hang at the top of the tree...2 yrs ago the whole box with those nad all of my other "special ornaments" in it was dropped by my mom! I made her piece them back together...thank goodness most were salvagable....Have you tried googling the ornament...there were a few Hallmark sites that sell ornaments or try putting a wanted ad out on Craigslist....you never know what ppl have or want to get rid of...
i like olive oil for irritation type rash and as a gentle cleaner for.. ahem... girl parts... but for serious dry skin lanolin is great... sticky at first, but great. be prepared for naked snuggle time while it absorbs. or really you could do a bath with it.... never thought of that. just :giggle2: do her like you would do woolies... only a bigger container:giggle2: seriously though, if you add enough baby soap to it, it disolves pretty good.
shhhhh. lasagna sounds wonderful. i have already gotten groceries and cant go get more yet. pinching the:2cents:
and we went through a spell like that with dd. it will pass.
seriously, if you have to get one of us to get you some.... let us know.
:werd:
wash them like woolies :roflmbo:
I usually keep the stuff around to make lasagna...all accept for the ricotta cheese which we can get here for under $2 a container at the Super Walmart  sometimes I use different noodles if I'm out of the actual lasagna noodles and make it casserole/loose style! The kids love it...meat, sauce and cheese...who wouldn't love it! :giggle2:

ok so I am browsing ebay (since finding/deciding not to buy that ornament) :sniffle: and found an auction for a baby scarf and looked at it..no big deal...and then I am reading the terms and it says
"We always leave positive feedback as soon as one is left for us. If an unwarranted negative feedback is left , I will take legal action to get it removed. I take feedbacks very seriously."
Seriously? Are they joking? lol
I checked their FB and they had 2 negs in past 6 months for non-receipt of item. I wonder how many else they should have gotten but the buyers were afraid. I can't believe they are threatening legal action over negative feedback hahaha
Too bad I can't buy from them because they only ship to the US  I was just ITCHING to be THEIR customer :giggle:
This would be way ebay sucks anymore.......
I hope that Lg is very happy tomorrow...now back to cleaning. I couldn't get my dh to watch the kids or get off the couch even...so I'm doing my Monday fly lady routine now to save a couple of hours of sewing time tomorrow:giggle2:

I have to agree A&D ointment (not the cream, the ointment) is the bomb. It will heal anything, grow back severed limbs. Probably not CD safe, but the best stuff never is.

Ack. I had one of those days today. Dd2 was going (and driving me) insane. Good thing my bread today was a quickbread because I had to make it with her wrapped around my legs, screaming in misery and headbutting my legs because I wasn't holding her. The. Entire. Time. I was cooking.

WEIRD but then again, on eBay the way they changed the rules, buyers can pretty much leave any feedback they please with no consequences. I have seen mommas on here say they left a neg feedback and friends of the person bought her items and then left neg feedback saying they never received it in retaliation--even if you have DC eBay doesn't reverse the feedback pretty often, from what I hear.

We have an an accordian like wooden peg rack (actually 2 of them) that are in the girls closet...they hang all of their coats and jackets on them and set their backpacks underneath...my DS has hooks in his closet for his coat and sets his backpack underneath
:hugs: on the stalking and we have bins for stuff here too...3 canvas bins...2 pink for Barbies/Bratz, etc, 1 blue for hotwheels and action figures, bins for legos, bins for DD3's socks and one for her undies because her old dresser was too tall for her to reach them  and I have 4-5 bins in the nursery that are empty but are going to be for the baby's diapers and maybe clothes since she doesn't have a dresser  She does have a full size change table and a change table connected to the crib so we have 6 shelves not including the 2 in the closet and hang most of her stuff anyway....

:giggle2:
The girls' closet is already double-rodded, binned on the floor and above, and completely full because they also have no dresser and share a room. And they have accordion doors, so you can't hang anything on them. The kids are so good about putting up their stuff when they come in, but there's nowhere to put the coats away that they can reach. I'm afraid to put hooks at their height in high-traffic areas for safety, and DH doesn't want to put them in the low-traffic areas I suggest for various reasons.
I second the curtains on the closet thing. First, it's inexpensive compared to real doors, and can be really cute and compliment your decor. Second, you can see the whole closet that way (with sliders you can't) and no doors to impede furniture placement or traffic flow in the room.
Also, I second the bedsheets as curtains too - my main living area curtains are all bedsheets. I just buy the inexpensive kind at walmart, cut a small hole in each side of the big pocket hem at the top, and slide the curtain rod through. You may have to re-hem the bottom if it's too long, but you are already a sewing pro. I love having them because they get dirty so fast with sticky little fingers, and I can just toss them in the wash and dry when they get dirty. So many premade curtains are dryclean only. And they are plenty cheap so you can change them out to different colors easily if you want, and still use the old ones as bedsheets!:giggle2:

Thanks for the idea of the bed sheets!!! Our closet doors are 5-6ft wide so they are pretty wide. But i think 2 twins or maybe a queen would work. I will look into that. I def will prolly do it for ds room. I will hafta check out wal-marts rods this week.
So my dd comes home tomorrow!!! :yay: :yay: :yay: i am so excited i missed her so terrible bad. I have been cleaning like CRAZY to pass the time :giggle: i cleaned her room, the play room, bathroom, living room, family room and vaccumed them all too today !! LOL i just need to clean off the coffee table.
I second the use of A&D thats all we use no matter what! I have never had a problem in any of my PF's and it works QUICK too.
And yes i did change my pic  and i get confused too, when ladies do that. . lol. I didnt realize Cheryl changed hers the other day and i was like who is this typing this big long repsonse? I havent seen her before!! Duh!! i looked closer and seen her cute kids. . lol

Okay girls I'm off for tonight....I have cleaned my house during the superbowl.....and now I"m ready to vacuum in the morning and de-clutter for 15 minutes and then I'm off to sew like a mad woman......
I have had some interest in stocking some products again so I need to speed thru this last order and get busy on some ideas......And do some of the mending that the ladies at church have been asking me about.
I will check in the morning and during the day while I'm naking :p

Soup went well even the baby really really liked it  The kids enjoyed it and there are no leftovers
I managed to get all of my groceries and CVS stuff from today put away, all 4 big kids got showered/hair washed/clean :yay:, thanks to my bf the floors on the main level got swept and mopped (kitchen and large areas of hardwood covered in mud/salt/etc. from snow and ice melting :yuck:) AND I'm working on more laundry! I have folded the load in the dryer, washed and dried 1 load of dark clothes, washed and drying 1 load of light clothes, waiting for dryer to finish so can dry kids jeans that were washed already and washing the baby's clothes right now....that leaves....1 load light clothes, 1 load dark clothes, 1 load white clothes, diaper laundry and my work clothes (2 loads)...ok I'll be doing laundry until the end of time at this rate...:banghead: I told my bf that I really need 2 washers and 2 dryers! I would only use 1 washer and dryer in the summer as the kids live in their bathing suits and their laundry is a lot less thanks to t's and shorts....in the winter laundry is a killer....jeans, sweaters, sweatshirts...they were long sleeves and short sleeves to stay warm...:banghead: don't even get me started with towels and bed linens...I was smart about that though...all of the kids towels are white so they all go in the bleach/white load...all big kids have the same denim blue colored fitted sheet and a comforter on their beds(no flat sheet, girls and boy) all 3 big girls have the same comforter...very sparkly swirly pink girly pattern on one side, multi colored heart pattern on the other, 1/2 of every other heart is blue so the sheet matches...my son has the denim blue sheet and a comforter with a blue background and green race car on one side, black and white checkered flag pattern on the other....the baby's sheets and stuff usually go in with her clothes...my stuff goes by itself because it is large....
oh,well...I'm going to go switch over the laundry and go to bed....tt you ladies in the morning!
WOTB: white BG pocket stuffed with a tie dye flat...for now!

I'd do two twins or fulls, it is easier when you split them to open them up. Either size would work, depends on how gathered you like them. Also, shower curtains work well for closet curtains too (the cloth ones, not the plastic ones, LOL), they are just usually more expensive than bedsheets. But you usually do not have to hem them because they are usually the right height. I had a shower curtain on my kitchen doorframe in an apartment once, when we converted the dining room to our bedroom which was right next to the kitchen but had no door. It looked great and you couldn't tell from first glance it wasn't a window.
Anyway, you can see our bedsheet curtains in this pic in the background, they look like regular curtains - no one has ever figured out otherwise, and they have lasted us through two apartments and this house:

Two funny side notes...when I changed my avi I almost made the new pic black and white like the old one just so fewer people would be confused. But I was on DH's 'puter and he doesn't have any software on it that can do that, so I blew it off.
Second funny, because DH and I have had bedsheet curtains on all our abodes since we married (10 years!), my sister, who is a design assistant on a TV show, has been helping me score decent curtains for our house on the cheap. All the bedrooms have "real" curtains now, just not the main living areas.

Lisathena, it's been a long time since I made one, but I'm pretty sure a chef's hat is a headband cut and a big circle cut sewn together. I bet you'd get a lot more trades if you offered matching chef hats with your kid aprons!

Yay, now I have a wicked migraine that hasn't even gone down with meds & caffeine. This is just not my day, lol. I made dh stop tapping on the counter because it was too loud and hurt my head :giggle: Bleh. Maybe I'll watch The Office in a dark living room until I fall asleep on the couch. Tomorrow I have to decide what to do with all the PFs on the floor--since she climbed on the chairs to pee :giggle2: they're technically clean... but they've been walked on by little feet all afternoon. I should probably just wash them again.

Morning Mama;s!!
I miss yall too much to stay away. :) Well actually I need a few diaper items that's why Im here. What's new?
Hi, we miss you too!!
why didn't anyone ever tell me that you can take your finger off with a snappi? I just laid open my pointer finger on my right hand...and have bled out of 3 bandaids already....
So much for getting a lot of sewing done tonight grrr.....
ouch, I've totally done that! Especially right across my thumb when I think I've got it hooked on one side but it's not.
Faith, that tshirt pf looks great! I love the print. That blanket also looks awesome...I love pink and orange together for girls' stuff.
I love Vivie's chubby legs!! When DS was at that stage I bought a dozen LL toddler shorts (aka GMD light browns I think) because I got so frustrated with trying to get the premiums to fit well on him. Now that he's almost 10 1/2 months old the toddler shorts are exactly the right rise with a doubler, so they probably won't fit for more than a month, but they made my life easier during that inbetween stage. I like my regular toddler pfs now for nights and naps, so it might be a better bet to go with the LL toddlers (I think they're still on overstock sale?) if you don't mind the extra folded down -- they're only about an inch longer than my premiums but are at least an inch wider maybe more.
Heaven help me.
DP is still sick and is acting soooo grumpily that I sent her back to bed rather than talk to her. E is still sick and is sitting like a lump of the floor watching TV. Now I'm starting to feel icky, but because I'm the least sick of the bunch I get to take care of everything. Can I run away?
On top of that, we were uninvited from our friend's place for the Superbowl today, so I am stuck at home all day too. I honestly don't know how I am going to make it through the day. I guess I won't get adventurous. Just knitting, and hopefully a shower?
WOTB: Toddle-ease with GMD orange as doubler, under recycled longies.
I hope you got your shower and some rest, it's no fun having to take care of everyone else when you don't feel well yourself. I giggled at the comment about sending DP back to bed...I've totally done the same thing with DH when he's crabby, although it usually involves sending him out to have a cigar with his friends rather than to nap.
so heres a QOTD: Are you picky about stains?
I never reallty worry about stains on prefolds. It seems like eventually they wash out. But I really don't like stains on other diapers or the covers. :yuck: Why its ok for prefolds is beyond me LOL.
Yeah, they both me for sure. During the summer I usually line dry most of the way and then fluff in the dryer, which really helps with stains, but now that I only have to wash diapers every two days there's no way they'll all fit on my drying rack. Right now I'm really liking fleece liners...easier to spray poo off than the dipes, and they keep the worst of the staining off the diapers. I bought some from LL, but I know they're pretty easy to make yourself if you can buy 100% polyester fleece.
what about lanolin on the bum? or old fashioned a&d... thats mostly lanolin and vasoline.
one of the babies we had for a while had open heart surgery and we used lanolin on the wound once it began to heal and itch. he really was soothed by it. we just massaged it in. and i use it on my feet :chuckle:
I second a&d ointment! That stuff is AMAZING.
can someone please tell me why we go thru an enormous amount of diapers EVERYDAY?!
:werd: Especially since we have to use a doubler with everything, and double-diaper for naps and nights, I really think DS goes through more than a dozen diapers a day. When they were infant-sized it wasn't so impressive, but now that they're all premiums and toddler pfs the laundry bag is HUGE!
