morning :tired: We are mamas who enjoy keeping diapering simple. We like prefolds/flats/wool/anything we make ourselves and a wide variety of other stuff too (yes, even fancy diapers and sposies sometimes) :giggle: We are nonjudgemental easy-going and LOVE newbies so jump in :)

WOTB: (what's on the bum) a gmd red UB PF with a flannel recycled burp-cloth doubler, with our "Passion" Purewool double ruffle longies.

Morning gals.

Not much on our agenda today. Same old...Same old...Laundry, dishes, clean-up, school, cooking, baking. Balancing my checkbook. I'm $6.65 off and I can't figure it out anywhere :hairpull: Last night it was $6.65 under and this morning somehow it's over. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Okay. Now that I've got that out of my system.

WOTB: Drk Br GMD w/ LL preemie as doubler & thirsties cover. I feel like a broken record.

Morning mamas!

wotb: olive pf snappi'd under a red WAHM cover. I usually like everything to match if I can :giggle: but DH had to change her again while I was in the shower because she was a poop machine this morning! He did a pretty good job with the pf which is surprising because yesterday I supervised while he attempted to put one on her and and left huge gaps in her legs!

Morning, mamas! I just finally hit post on my multi-quote for this weekend's thread, which I started eight hours ago...but hey, better late than never, right? :giggle:

Our weekend was good -- I'm never online much while DH is home but I did skim through to see what everyone was up to. Right now DS is napping (finally! It's been a struggle to get him to settle down for both naps today, but at least he's taking them) and I'm about to try to motivate and get dinner started. I did manage to do 2 loads of laundry, vacuum the living room, entry way and rec room carpets (holding DS, who is terrified of the vacuum and kept trying to climb over my shoulder to get away from it), sweep and mop the hardwood floor in the rec room, bake banana bread, tend to my sourdough bread that will get baked in a few hours, and send out pictures of DS from this past month. :thud:

Last night DH and I put together some cheapo Ikea-style desks we bought at the local version of Home Depot, and we now officially have a crafting corner. DH has all his fly-tying stuff set up on his desk, and I have my sewing machine on mine. It'll be so nice not to have to drag that stuff out to the dining room table and clean it all up every time we want to do something with it!

And before I go, I have to show off what I just finished...it's the soaker made with the leftover yarn from DS's longies. I wish I had known how the pattern would go (I used the Curly Purly pattern and it's the first time I've done it) so I could have figured out how to have more of the brown yarn up front, but I still think it's pretty cute.

I think it would be okay as long as you can look up the instructions for a few of the stitches on knittinghelp.com or something similar. The pattern is pretty clear, but doesn't really explain things in detail so having some sort of tutorial on hand would probably be helpful. I actually think a pair of shorties might be easier just because there's probably less shaping...I've used the Fern and Faerie and the Sheepy Pants patterns and of the two of them I prefer Sheepy Pants, but Itchy Fingers is free and I've heard it's also pretty good.

 morning! Just jumping in for a minute! My morning has been eventful to say the least...my bf usually comes over before work to help me get the baby ready for daycare and to take DD3 out to her bus...His work changed his scheduled and now he goes in too early to come by....I got up, got the big kids up while the baby slept, grabbed a load of kids jeans out of the dryer, folded them, threw the baby's clothes in the dryer and hung a load of my clothes that washed last night...helped the girls pick their clothes and jumped in the shower really quickly while DS got ready, signed stuff for the big kids and sent the older 3 on their bus....got DD3's hair up and her ready to go...went out to take her to her bus on time, started my car while I waited and don't you know...Her bus never came! The one day her Daddy can't take her to the bus it doesn't show up! So you know I had to call him and tell him that we had stood outside for 20 min waiting on a bus that never came! I called the school and they said to call transportation and they would send someone to come get her...I told them I would bring her in on my way to work and they proceeded to tell me that if she wasn't going to be there in the next 15 min she would need to be brouht into the office to get a late pass...like no kidding! I thought I could just let my kindergartener walk in and out of school whenever she felt like it...duh...so she came in ate breakfast(somedays they eat ate breakfast at school as a treat!) and I packed the baby's bag, got her dressed and nursed her...we are now off to school, daycare and then work....yeah me! :yay:

Heidi~great soaker!

Carnalcindd~good luck with no help!

Melissa~good luck finding where you are off...I have to balance my checkbook sometime today and haven't done it in forever on paper so I'm not looking forward to it :hide:

WOTB: green BG 1.0 stuffed with a LL UB flat for daycare....today the ba is packed full of BG's stuffed with LL flats.

never heard of the itchy fingers. do you have a link or two? i have the basics down on knitting, im just slow. and my sis taught me using the righthanded method. i was looking online and i think i would do better w the left handed version. not that im a leftie, but that seems easier to adjust to since i crochet. you know holding the yarn in the left. im gonna try and see. jjust like crochet, every thing should be the same, only reversed. like the front looks like the back. and compensate. right? anyone know what i am talking about?

so the girls are on the mend. addison is feeling just enough better that she is a complete pain. she doesnt want held or down. just to squirm while being held and scream. very annoying.

but i did manage to get my books to balance... :elmo: and got some sewing done. although i didnt leave the house yesterday.

faith, i was thinking about the rash. someone else mentioned a viral or fungal type thing... you know that makes sense. if it doesnt clear up, i might try the dr. those types of things are irritated and made worse with the moisturizers.

whew sounds busy!

LG (little girl) is over today and much happier. She was screaming when her mom dropped her off (always does; stops the moment she gets her coat/hat off) and her mom said angrily "Geez I think this is the last week I am bringing her over. She does this everyday!" Now the mom has threatened this before, but it always makes me sad for LG when she says that. I always tell the mom "she calmed down right away and then we did XXX game and YYY activity" but who knows. If I were taking my kid to daycare, I'd be more upset if they were screaming every day when I picked them up. LG is always super duper happy and always tells her mom she had fun and is excited to share the craft(s) we make.

Jennifer, just looking at your morning makes me want to take a nap! There are days I can't manage to get DS and myself out the door, let alone anyone else. :giggle2:

Shirley, it appears the itchy fingers pattern can only be downloaded through Ravelry (http://www.ravelry.com/), which is sort of annoying. The pattern is free, and joining the site is free, but you have to request an invite because it's still in the set-up phase and they're adding new members gradually. I think it took about a week for me to get my invite, but the wait time might be shorter now. It's a great resource for patterns, though, since you can see other people's finished projects and their comments on problems they ran into and such. I just sent it to your IRL e-mail as a pdf, so hopefully it comes through!

PM me your IRL e-mail addy and I'll send you the pdf...it's a free pattern but it happens to be hosted on Ravelry so if you're not a member you would have to wait to join the site. I think the file size is just under 250KB so it's not huge.

Check out the continental method...I think that's what you are talking about. My knitting book shows it

:yeahthat: I learned to knit continental and IMO it's much simpler than holding the yarn in the right hand and having to move your whole hand to loop it around the needle.

I finally figured it out. I had deducted something twice. Better than not deducting something at all, which I've also done.

It's knitting...I have one pair of crocheted shorties that I got in a trade and would love to learn to do that, but I'm REALLY slow at crocheting so for things I actually want to finish I knit. :giggle:

I love that pattern, but DH wasn't too crazy about the idea of me knitting bell bottoms for DS so I haven't used it yet. I think I'm going to make a pair of longies for my friend's DD's birthday (she doesn't CD but I could just make them a little smaller in the bum I think) and use that pattern and maybe even add some ruffles on the bottom. I have fun knitting things for little girls since all I ever knit is for DS or me.

Morning ladies!

I have a question. What do you consider to be the ideal measurements for NB longies? I need to make some for a baby that has not yet been conceived (not mine, LOL), from a sweater with sentimental significance so I don't want to mess it up. My babies are huge, so I want to know what a normal NB size is. With a gun to my head I'd say 12"W, 13"R, 6" inseam but I'm not sure that is right.

Morning! I'm drinking some Lemon Ginger tea today, the box says it's energizing, so I hope it is! Also it's good for the tummy, but my tummy feels bad at night, not the morning, so that doesnt really matter at the moment. My goal is to get some serious knitting done this week. I'm falling way behind. I've been having headaches every evening for the past couple weeks, and that makes it hard to knit, or do anything else really. I can't wait till the 1st trimester is over! It's amazing how a baby the size of a lima bean can wreack such havoc on your body! And I'm a lot better off then some of the mamas on the Sept board.

Heidi - Great soaker!

on the butt: a mama-made fitted(rita's rump pocket) out of dad's old t-shirts and a cute black with star rainbows remnant from jo-ann fabric. double stuffed with gerber prefolds since she's nursing down for morning nap.

gonna try to get pictures of my fitteds. i've been working hard on them and they are super duper cute(which is a feat because I'm NOT a seamstress) and I now have 10. I'm planning on a full dozen. And I need to make her a few pairs of shorties for this summer so I'm hoping to cast on the waistband today!

Cheryl - Per the Sheepy Pants pattern, a nb is 12-14 hip, 13 rise, 6-7 inch inseam. For the waist they just don't give a measurement. But my guess would be to do the waist about 3 inches smaller than the hip

Good morning ladies.

I took a break from the computer yesterday so I could try and catch up on some house stuff and finish some knitting. I knitted up some NB longies in a solid brown for this baby. Now, I need to knit up those dang hats and booties. *Thanks for posting the measurements of the NB sizes. I was looking at these pants thinking, "Gosh... they are TEENY!!!"

I have 2 weeks to go w/ this pregnancy!! YES!

My to-do list:
LAUNDRY
De-clutter kitchen (2 days without decluttering can do a number!)
LAUNDRY
Clean up master bedroom
clean both bathrooms

Any fave hate & bootie patterns? I am a member of Ravelry... but just wanted to see if you had any faves.

Off to a MOPS steering meeting. I'll BBL.

her mom said angrily "Geez I think this is the last week I am bringing her over.

Maybe mom thinks it's not worth it to make the girl cry every day just so she can get some alone time?!? Didn't you say that LG mom only drops her off to get alone time, not because she has to work?!? Or am I remembering it wrong?

i've posted here before but can never keep up with you all.:giggle: just gonna jump in

Check out the continental method...I think that's what you are talking about. My knitting book shows it

love the contintental method. I tried learning to knit for years - since I was a child - and it wasn't until I was in my early 30s and someone taught me continental that I actually got the hang of it! Oh yeah, friending you on ravelry later today

wotb: gmd light brown dyed pink and thirsties cover. but its coming off soon, she is doing her pooping song.

I replied to the "sellor keep fitteds thread" - my vote is a little wishy washy - I say sell, but if you need soemone simple for a sitter or your dh around then keep maybe 3 or 4. Oh yeah, ditch the KLOs.

On my agenda today is to wash my kitchen floor and figure out a better shoes system. We have a big house but no mudroom or entray for the back door :headscratch: the nearest closet is way down the hall and that is where everything gets stashed, but we are the "take our shoes off" kind of people and there are always a big pile of dirty shoes and boots to stumble over in front of the back door. Can't leave them in the garage as its too cold out there. Also have to work on my portfolio and do my workshop homework. And sell off the unused too small dipes. And try to get some rest - am sooo sick still. At least the boys are back at school today.

So I was imagining a huge cleanup of all the PFs on the floor from naked Sunday but dd1 stacked up most of them for me. (and then dumped the bubble solution out. So her cleaning/messes balance themselves out, lol).

Today's agenda:
Stay sane :giggle:
Clean up more before dd2's new therapist comes over tomorrow
Make more enchiladas
Return Wall-E to the Redbox and get some soup (dh is sick now)
Send out some packages
Maybe squeeze in a little attempted knitting
And of course, go to work.

At least dd2 is feeling better this morning so she is much happier.

This is what we do with our shoes (http://www.picturefools.com/images/entryNshoestorage.JPG). Like I said, no coat closet and not enough room in the entryway to do real cubbies or a bench thing. They are Trommes from Ikea, I think $30 for a three-pack. You can get a LOT of adult shoes in there vertically, and many more kids shoes. Each of us has a drawer for shoes and then there's one for the girls' socks. The shoe management is not hard to maintain, it's all the coats/hats/winter accessories that can't seem to be contained, and if you hang too many things on the hooks here, you can't open the front door.

Ugh! Faith, DD once dumped a bottle of bubbles on the carpet, and it's still one of the few stains that won't come out with a carpet shampooer. I don't get it, it's just soap, right?

#3 is SO tired, but is refusing to nap. #2 is being so good, because I am letting her watch too much TV to wrangle #3. And I'm still trying to figure out how we are going to get all the doctor's visits covered.

Hey, that sounds like dd2 (the squirm & scream :giggle:). If her rash doesn't clear up I'll think about taking her to the doc then--I didn't know ANY rash got worse with moisturizers but it makes sense if it's fungal. Eeeeeew.

Thinking about it...have you tried something like the generic version of monistat? try it in one place if it is yeast/fungal I think that would clear it up...

Dd's shoes all go in her closet. I'm pretty sure they breed in there, and the older ones leave home, and some of them decide to have life-altering surgery (i.w. dd removes the shoelaces to play with and then loses them :giggle:). She has been a "shoe girl" since she knew what shoes were. I'm kind of scared to go in there :giggle: . Dh and I just keep our shoes in the pantry right outside our room. We take them off at the rug and move them over when they're dry.

ok, so for shoe cleanup we have a shoe closet but the kids just throw them in there and never can find the match again....SO I'm having my Dad build me one of those PVC cubby hole things like they have a t Chuck E Cheese for the kids shoes :giggle2: I have to do some measuring and send him a picture of it but as soon as that's done I get to put it in the closet and not have to push the door closed with my back just to contain the shoe mess!

Agenda for the day is as follows:

work (right now)
pick up kids from bus, take to daycare
back to work
back to daycare to pick kids up
home
laundry, more regular and diaper laundry maybe...
make dinner (no idea what that will be)
go to bed before midnight!

Any thoughts on keeping or selling fitteds?
http://www.diaperswappers.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6186180&posted=1#post6186180

I hope to get to pop in here more often. DD is almost 2 weeks old and this will be our first full week w/o any family here to "help" us...we will see how it goes

Congrats on your new one! and i say sell the fitteds! But this is coming from someone who is not a fitted fan :)

:hugs: pregnancy really can suck at times.

:goodvibes: thanks all. yeah, i like the black with stars because rainbows totally make me happy but my favorite favorite favorite one is the girly skulls outer and brown flannel inner. Welcome!! I do post here and can't keep up either. This thread moves FAST!!

WOTB: BG EC fitted, luxe soaker if I had to guess. DH changed her and since it's Monday, all of the "daddy-stash" AIOs are in the wash.
LG's mom brings her here for 2 reasons (so she told me) first was so that she could have some time to herself, and second was to put LG in another environment where she could have some socialization with someone other then her family. Her mom was concerned with her development and thought she was just being a "baby" at home cause mom put up with it. LG has learned SO much here...mom can clearly see that too, and comments on it....and LG is just here twice a week from 8:30-2:30 and has a nap during then, so you can see the small amount of time she is here.

I don't charge them a lot for them to bring her here...partially because my availability is so little that it is hard to find daycare kids (I am not available Tues/Thurs) and second, because LG needs to come here to get attention that mom doesn't give. I don't know WHY LG doesn't learn/do things at home; I am not there....but here she watches zero TV and we read books and do crafts etc. and she picks things up fast....so I don't think its LG's fault she isn't learning things, if you get my drift.

LG's mom told me that she was going to be looking for a job, but never told me if she actually got one...however she drops LG off in the morning and picks her up at 2:30 so it would be a very short job if she did get one. :dunno:

We NIP, discreetly but not usually covered because then it does look like a 3 ring circus!

For prefolds...I have dyed, bleached and UB...I  the UB...don't get me wrong I like the dyed ones but reach for the UB....I really have stopped using the bleached ones here lately...I was stuffing the BG's for daycare with them but am now stuffing the BG's with flats....I'm still debating on selling my dyed GMD reds....I have some GMD reds that I'm definitely keeping because they were a psecial trade with certain fabrics BUT as soon as I go to sell something I end up using it....I was set to sell the 2 GMD greens and a few GMD reds and one of the greens was used as a pocket insert, 3 of the reds were used for trifolding last week....

just popping in to say hello - life has been busy and I've been sleep deprived :thud: so I'm here but not motivated to chit chat yet :giggle:

on a happier note, I did find some infant prefolds on FSOT for a really good deal - we needed more

WOTB #1 - infant prefold under a thirsties cover
WOTB #2 - premium prefold with hemp doubler under recycled wool pants

 and :hugs:

:dunno:

Morning mama's

My dd should be home anytime today. I am waiting with butterflys in my tummy for her! I dont even want to move away from the window . . lol i cant wait to hug her!!!

Knitting .. idk if i will ever learn i may just stick w/ sewing and trade for cute longies and shorties. Its working well so far to do that. . but maybe one day. . . But i dooooo loooooooove knit longies and shorties

I am so anxious. . what do i do to pass the time? baby is still sleeping in my bed. . lol and i am up waiting ..

:yay: I'm so happy for you!

shoes. Ugh! We are lucky in that we have a coat closet so they all sorta pile up in there with the coats and the hats and mittens. I cannot WAIT for winter to be over(a sore subject as I'm in New England):banghead: .

Okay so I lied. I think I have 11 fitteds?:headscratch:
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e213/faerybugs/100_6586.jpg

Those are the 8 that are clean and one black with stars is on the bum upstairs in bed and there are two of the retro apples print sitting in the diaper pail.:headscratch: Guess I made 11. But they work pretty well for her and I enjoy sewing diapers. Makes me feel productive and thrifty. They are from remnants in the 50%off bin at Jo-Ann fabrics and my ex's old t-shirts that he left here(shhhhhh!) and some flannel receiving blankets(we had a million as she had/has reflux)

Oh yeah and for fun, this is what breakfast entailed today:

Great job!

:giggle2: DH smokes a lot of stuff.

Aww your DD is a cutie! I  the black with stars.

ETA: Is it wrong for me to hold a grudge? Here's the story. We all went to Chili's for dinner last night and Aubry was sleeping, but woke up ticked off. Soooo onto the boob she goes. DH made a comment asking if I was going to cover up. My response, "oh who cares?!" He says "other people do." Okay, Like I give a crap what other people think about my NIP. It's just a boob feeding a baby & I care more about my child eating than what other people do. I'm still ticked off and not talking to him.

We always NIP when Levi was younger, now he's close enough to being weaned that he never asks for it when we're out, just at home he gets bored so that seems like the best thing to do with his time. One time, when he was close to a year old we were eating out and he wanted to nurse and dh was like "are you going to take do that in the bathroom" I was shocked!!! He had never said anything about NIP before. I asked him if he wanted to eat in the bathroom and told him he was an idiot, then let it go. He never said anything again.

FairyGnomeHome, I love the diapers. I actually have some of the pink skull fabric, and never thought to use it as a diaper (I have a boy). too cute! And the baby is even cuter!

I have never been able to nurse in a public bathroom. I tried once, and every time someone flushed the toilet the baby freaked out (this was #2). I have NIP issues, I just can't get compfortable enough to get my letdown going, so I do it in the car or a lounge or somewhere not *too* public. My kids have also not been nursing cover/blanket-compatible, so that was never an option.

Lisathena, you must be elated. I bet we don't hear from you for hours, you are going to love on that girl for so long.

also i was thinking.... dd3yo HATES to feel wet. we have been using pullups at night, but even when she gets up she doesnt mind peeing in them... but she has no accidents during the day. but she does sometimes wet during the day time naps but wakes immediatley.

yeah in my experience the nursing in public frequently TOTALLY drops off after like 9 months. Gracie is too distractable to nurse in public anymore(13months) unless she's super duper tired and miserable. She much prefers solids when she's out and about because she can look around while eating crackers.:giggle: But when we are home all day, she'll nurse over solids ALL.DAY.LONG. Like she nurses 5-6times a night plus about 4 or more times a day.:giggle: It's like having a newborn who does acrobatics in your lap.

wotb: gmd unbleached red and melon thirsties cover

Oh yeah, that question. I much prefer unbleached prefolds. Just like the color better. I don't know if I see a difference in absorbency because I almost always change after each pee(kinda why I change upwards of 12 diapers a day still) but I just like the color and the fact that they are not put through a harsh bleaching process.

#1 had spinach green watery mucuosy poops before we figured out she had a dairy sensitivity, but we are talking 10+ a day. Could it be that? It could be sinus infection too, but they should be able to tell if it's that with tests.

re:NIP... yesterday, I was at a Superbowl party with neighbors/coworkers, and my boss's wife (our babysitter) was there with her daughter. She kept trying to nurse her baby under a cover, and the baby wasn't having it. Poor woman went home early because of it. I felt so bad for her, but I guess it was her choice.

Me, I just whipped it out and nursed. You can't see much, and I've never had anyone complain. Well, my sister's roommate/ex-boyfriend apparently complained to DH once while they were drinking together that I just, "Whip it out whenever," to which DH responded quite innocently, "Well what the hell else is she supposed to do, go nurse in a closet?" I'm the only nursing mother that DH has had much contact with, so he just thinks it's absolutely normal to nurse whenever, wherever. It's wonderful. DS is also the only baby he's ever diapered, so there was no resistance to cloth diapering. He's been a blank slate for me to write on. :giggle:

DS is not one to accept being covered. I've had to cover up a few times at work (I'd be fine nursing in front of my students, but don't feel like embroiling myself in an educational legal battle, so I either lock my classroom door or cover up if DS is up at work with me) and it's pretty awful. Even if I can get him to accept nursing under a cover (takes a lot of convincing), his wiggling limbs and grunting under a cover actually attract more attention to what's going on. :giggle:

Hi mamas! You've all been busy chatting away today!

Well, it's official. Every single person in my family is now sic, including me. E still has a hacking cough, DP has a cough and a fever and is home sick from work, and I have fever and congestion but no cough yet. Yuck. It's terribly un-fun. And what sucks even more is that it's really nice and sunny outside and we're too ill to enjoy it.

WOTB: E is napping in a Toddle-ease with a flannel flat as a doubler under fleece longies.

The front:
http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq105/hmrees/DSCN2532.jpg

The back:
http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq105/hmrees/DSCN2533.jpg

Really cute! I think the way that the brown worked out makes it look awesome!

I am a member of ralvelry; my id is the same there as it is here...I think there is a friends/PM option there, but I have never used the site before day  so I am browsing all the patterns that the search "Free shorties" gives me :giggle2:

DP is on Ravelry. I just requested an invite this weekend. I'm working the Itchy Fingers pattern right now, and making shorties instead of longies (same pattern, just a shorter inseam.) I have knit lots of things before, but I still find the pattern to be a bit difficult - not because the knitting itself is at all hard, but because the instructions aren't all that detailed. It's coming along nicely though. I am 33 rows in to the 53 that I need for the body (the joys of having to make an XL!)

'Morning, ladies. DS is sick with the stomach virus that DH had. I'm staying home with him this morning while DH works, then going into work when DH comes home at noon.

Mucousy green poo sounds like a sensitivity to something you are eating. The blood would be consistant w/ that too, if whatever the offender is is causing irritation in her intestines. :hugs: i hope you get it figured out.

Okay, that QOTD was boring :giggle:
NEW QOTD: Does your SO use PFs? Dh will if he HAS to. He would rather leave her in a wet PF for way too long than change one  although he can snappi them (he thinks it's a horrible snappi job, but it's really fine). He says he's scared of the snappi because it bit him and drew blood once. So I gave in and got the BG organic AIOs for him, and now he *loves* them and wants more and is actually excited by the fluffy mail, LOL, so I'm fine with having some for his shift since we actually had a little extra money for once. But still. How hard is a snappi, lol?? Since he has his diapers now I'm using pins instead.

It does sound like it could be a food sensitivity. Dairy and soy sensitivities are very common in babies. Dd1 still has that at age 3.

I  your dh :giggle:. Dd2 hates covers. Screaming bloody murder sort of hate. So it's a LOT more discreet to just NIP openly. If I want to cover up more I wear a nursing tank underneath or turn away from the general crowd when I latch her on. It's not like you can see much with her giant head in the way :giggle2:. Poor kid. 3% on the weight chart (25% on the WHO EBFing weight chart), 40% for height... 75% for head. Totally top-heavy.

Trying to make up for last week's we're-all-sick-so-we-just-watch-movies-all-day. We had geography, coloring, cutting, Megablocks, painting, cooking, and now dd1 is coloring in her dry erase book with a trace-the-dotted-lines theme.

Oh, I forgot the QOTD...my dh does NOT use pf's! He despises them. He really prefers BG's but my ds isn't able to handle pockets anymore. We have to switch to all pf's and fitteds. And because of that dh has fallen in love with GM's and wool. I am getting ready to give my dh a snappi lesson. I told him he had to learn how to snappi, I wouldn't never make him pin (which I prefer), but he had to learn how to snappi in case he had to use a pf for some reason. He has reluctantly agreed. Now, If I would just get off my butt and order a snappi :giggle:

Is the cage for the dog or the kid? :giggle:

Actually, when we've had to travel with the dog, we've commented that for $100, he gets to travel in relative comfort. He can stand up, turn around, lay comfortably. I'd happily travel in a human-sized kennel, even if it meant having to hold the pee. He can stretch out and lay down down there in his kennel; my gigantress self sure can't do that up in coach!

The baby has been kind of obsessed with the dog kennel lately, though. Always trying to crawl into it.

QOTD... DH totally does prefolds. Pins, now, too!

DH used PFs with no problems the first three months. Then I put some velcro tabs on some, and made some pockets...and he's never been into PFs ever since. He doesn't want anything to do with the snappi anymore, even though there have been no snappi injuries in our house, and he refuses to take out my pins. Give him something with velcro and he's happy. If all the velcro diapers are dirty, he goes for the sposies.

But #3 has learned how to take sposies off...so I'm wondering how long that's going to last. He hasn't done it for DH yet (only me, when DH has left me #3 in a sposie), so I'm wondering if the velcro diapers are next. Or if he's just gonig to forget or be bored by it.

NEW QOTD: Does your SO use PFs?
No Ravelry account yet so I can't see it, but what I want to do when I can knit well is the Red Ridinghood sweater.

QOTD: NO my DH does not use PF's and it makes me so mad! He won't even WATCH me do it to TRY to learn. He rarely changes a diaper at ALL, which I don't understand...he used to change ds (in cloth-fitteds) and dd1 (sposies) all the time with zero problems.

I want to knit that red ridinghood sweater too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You ladies have been chatty!

I didn't get on much this weekend. Ds2 had a 104.5 fever yesterday. His fever is better today, but he still has a slight one. I'm a little worried cause when he was eating lunch, his hands turned purple.

I was able to skim through the posts. Let's see what I caught.

AOTD: dh prefers pfs

Ds has had some green mucus like poos lately. When I asked the dr about it - the dr didn't seem concerned.

I'd keep the fitteds - but I like fitteds. I like to have the variety.

I gave up knitting. I'd rather crochet.

NIP - not really for me. I use the cross cradle hold, so I prefer to be sitting and right now my boob is still bigger than ds's head. None of my kids will nurse under a blanket. I usually just nurse in the car or if I'm out shopping I love nursing in dressing rooms. That said - I have no problem nursing in front of my family - or friends.

Welcome! Lots of new people today.

Trying to make up for last week's we're-all-sick-so-we-just-watch-movies-all-day. We had geography, coloring, cutting, Megablocks, painting, cooking, and now dd1 is coloring in her dry erase book with a trace-the-dotted-lines theme.

:giggle2: I could have written this. Except I am still sick, and my friends DS is over as her dd has a medical emergency and is in the hospital. The kids don't want anything to do with me, its superfriends all the day. Am going to try to get them outside - only 38 today!

WOTB: staceyroo77 bamboo fleece pf under batik bum footies.

Mamas who applique wool - what's the best way to do it? Machine? By hand? I have these gorgeous cashmere footies and given the wasteland that the fsot has become lately am thinking of converting them to capris so Vivie can wear them through the spring/summer (there is room to grow in the hips and rise)

AOTD: I have taught the baby's daddy to trifold...but he never uses the right size prefold with the right cover...so it is either hanging out the back, the leg holes, too small for big cover, too big for small cover...but he tries...so he mainly uses the fitteds and daycare diapers when he has the baby...

It does sound like it could be a food sensitivity. Dairy and soy sensitivities are very common in babies. Dd1 still has that at age 3.

Has far has the baby I brought her in before and we thought dairy sensitivity. I thought I cut it all out but I'm wondering if Its still lurking in something I'm eating. I need to read all the labels on every single thing, because I realized this morning one of hte oatmeals I was eating contians whey. :banghead: Its just wierd because she is not fussy at all. That dairy stuff is sneaky. It's way better now with the labeling, in theory it says CONTAINS DIARY in all caps near the ingredients if it does. But they didn't have that law when it applied to me, and I had to learn all "scientific" words like "Casein" and "whey" and all that in the ingredients list. Then we moved to Europe and I had to learn the words for milk, butter, and cheese in every language of the places that we visited.

Plus a large percentage of babies with dairy issues also have soy issues. Did it improve at all when you cut out the dairy? When we cut out dd's dairy the problem just changed (the dairy was the worst=projectile vomiting, but then when we switched to soy she screamed for hours and had poo issues).

Accidentally posted this in the BSRB thread this morning. I guess I wasn't as awake as I thought I was. I did get the negativity and general obstinance that I expected, unfortunately.

Morning, ladies. Both girls are blissfully asleep, and I'm getting ready for work. I anticipate negativity from my high school students this morning because it's Monday and I will expect them to work.

Agenda for the day:
Get ready for work
Unload dishwasher and reload.
Move diaper laundry from washer to dryer.
Wake Amelia. Nurse and possibly change her.
Go to work.
Type lesson plans into computer.
Teach 10 classes.
Come home, fix supper, bathe girls, and put them to bed.
Watch TV.
Go to bed.

Repeat tomorrow, except with a home basketball game and no lesson plans to put in computer. Later night - less time with girls. Probably won't make it back on until Wednesday.

We have been fighting a "rash" since Nov. My son SOMEHOW got a staff infection on his little fella, and since then we have been fighting this horrible rash. Sposies makes it worse for us. Try washing your diapers and then boiling them for about 10 minutes. This is supposed to help kill all bacteria and any "excess" detergent or anything built up in the diaper.

Just rinse the poop off, and if you have to scrub it use a milkd soap like ivory or something to get it off. You can hand wash it in any baby shampoo, roll up and squish in a towel, lay flat to dry. I don't lanolize mine every time I wash them, it's only to improve the waterproofness so you won't ruin them if you don't have any now.

Cute woolies Cheryl!!!

I have tried bleach. For a while I was using it on a regular basis and the problem just continued to get worse. I really don't know where to turn when bleach doesnt work.

I have done a little reading though and I think I need to use more detergent. I'm going to keep him in sposies for a few more days, his pee pee looked healed till he went back in cloth, so I'm going to let it heal some more. I'm going to take all the diapers to my dad's and strip and bleach them in the nice clean city water, and hopefully then I can have a fresh start.

We have been fighting a "rash" since Nov. My son SOMEHOW got a staff infection on his little fella, and since then we have been fighting this horrible rash. Sposies makes it worse for us. Owie. I'm deffinately sure what Levi has is a burn. It looks just like a pic you would see of a chemical burn, where a layer of skin is just gone. It started to heal almost immediately after I started putting him in sposies  It's lots better now, but being back in cloth again irritated it. I've considered boiling the diapers, but that would be an enourmous undertaking as the pans I have would only be big enough to do one at a time. So that is a last resort.

Ok now i have found the wool love. . how do i wash them????? He pooped in his longies for the 1st time ever earlier. . .I was thinking had washing in the sink w/ our shaklee baby wash soap. Then air dry? I dont have lanoline or what ever . . do i need it? HELP!

Baby wash is gentle enough for wool. Lanolin is what makes your wool really waterproof. Some people do just fine without it, but Levi deffinately pees through his wool if it's not lanolized. Lanolin is also what gives wool it's ability to "self-clean" and be worn multiple times w/out stinking

cherylchoo
02-02-2009, 04:55 PM
You can't go wrong with more detergent. I started using the full amount (instead of half like everybody says) for my diapers when I started to have stink, with a 1/4 cup baking soda, and stink is gone. I'm not sure why bubbles are evil in the CD world, unless LO is sensitive to detergents. If you go soak any of your towels or clothes in water now, you'd get bubbles and you don't have a rash or burn.

i have used some without doing any lanolin. :hide: there remains residual lanolin in it already. you should probably just wash it for now, then when you wash it next time do a lanolin treatment. for now just hand wash w baby shampoo.

A quick question for you prefold-lovin' mamas....do GMD usually get pilly? I had some ages ago and I don't remember them being pilly at all. My LL unbleached and super pilly and are getting worn out so I just bought some GMDs off of FSOT that were supposed to be prepped but not used...but they are super pilly.

They don't look stained or dingy or anything, I don't doubt that they are fairly new. I'm just really surprised and a bit dissappointed as I was hoping they would feel new like the GM trimfolds I got recently. Is this normal for GMD, or is that from usage? Or only some batches are this way? TIA!

You know, Bethann, maybe you could boil one and see if that made any difference before trying to boil all of them. Just an idea.

I'm willing to bet that your washer and your water is the culprit. I hope it's not, because I know you can't do anything about it, but all signs point that way to me.

I might as a lst resort. It just occured to me that there could be bacteria in our watr :yuck: if that's the case i'm going to have to take the diapers someplace else to wash them. :banghead:

OK, I'm done with my shopping spree for the day. Just placed my LL order and I'm so excited. Who would have thought I'd be all in a tizzy over a bunch of prefolds, a snappi, and 1 fitted (to try). Can't wait till it gets here! Now if the rest of the stuff she's outgrown would just sell already...

Well, E is in bed, diaper laundry is in the dryer, and the dish washer is running. Honestly, that's more than I thought might get done around here today! Now DP is knitting and I'm playing around on the internet. We're both pretty sad sacks. I took some sinus medication, but my throat still hurts. DP took some cough and cold medication, which seems to have helped some, but she's still coughing. I hope we're feeling better soon!

WOTB: A sposie. Once again, both BedBugs were dirty. On the up side, my third one should be here tomorrow or Wednesday. Yippee!

Ok, DH just came home and I never got around to telling him about the longies trade. He was out of town when I made hers, and I never remembered to tell him the "jeans" were coming. So DH comes home, takes #3, and says "Hey, did you get new pants? Did mama crochet these for you?"

I stop dead in my tracks. "How do you even know the difference between knit and crochet?"

He looks at me and says, "I have a whole other life you know nothing about." :roflmbo:

Lord have mercy!

:giggle2: That totally made me laugh out loud!

A quick question for you prefold-lovin' mamas....do GMD usually get pilly?

I have GMD orange edge (bleached) and brown edge (unbleached) and neither of them are pilly at all. Is it possible the mama that prepped them washed them with something that shed lint? I hope someone else chimes in with more ideas!

they may be new. sometimes the agitation causes them to get pilly. its the lint or something. but it will eventually wear off. or you could shave them w a cheap sposie razor. but several washes and drys will get them off.

I did it! I bought the MM Copper Patina yarn. When I got home - I tried to calmly sit down to my computer and check to see if there was any left. There were only 2 left and they just happend to be in one of my preferred yarns. So I bought them. I couldn't help it! My hand made the mouse go to the buy now button and I just clicked!

Now I just need to find someone to knit them for me

LOL, Thanks.

DD is such a little freeking peach! I just want to leave work right now to go gobble up her little cheeks.

I'm having a lonely daddy moment right now, sry. :sadbye:

Missing the kids is probably the toughest part about WOH. Both of my office computers have a picture of my girls together, and I take at least one of the girls to as many school functions as possible, but it isn't the same.

ok, so for shoe cleanup we have a shoe closet but the kids just throw them in there and never can find the match again....SO I'm having my Dad build me one of those PVC cubby hole things like they have a t Chuck E Cheese for the kids shoes :giggle2: I have to do some measuring and send him a picture of it but as soon as that's done I get to put it in the closet and not have to push the door closed with my back just to contain the shoe mess!

My DH could totally make something like that. Why hadn't I ever thought of that?

shoes.

(Here's the reply the teacher received the following day)
Dear Mrs. Jones,
I wish to clarify that I am not now, nor have I ever been, an exotic dancer.
I work at Home Depot and I told my daughter h ow hectic it was last week before the blizzard hit. I told her we sold out every single shovel we had, and then I found one more in the back room, and that several people were fighting over who would get it. Her picture doesn't show me dancing around a pole. It's supposed to depict me selling the last snow shovel we had at Home Depot.
>From now on I will remember to check her homework more thoroughly before she turns it in.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Smith

also i was thinking.... dd3yo HATES to feel wet. we have been using pullups at night, but even when she gets up she doesnt mind peeing in them... but she has no accidents during the day. but she does sometimes wet during the day time naps but wakes immediatley.

so QOTD: do you think that if i switched her back to cloth at night that she would night train?

Too cute! We're still working on training Sadie outside the house (we're really good while we're at home and awake) so I have no advice, only sympathy.

:goodvibes: thanks all. yeah, i like the black with stars because rainbows totally make me happy but my favorite favorite favorite one is the girly skulls outer and brown flannel inner. It just looks so adorable! And they are so trim under a soaker! I wish I'd found this pattern 3 years ago for Sara's diapering days.

Re: nip and dh's. Grrrrrrrr. My girls' dad(he's still technically my husband but we've been separated almost 18months) always had issues with it when Sara was nursing. ALWAYS. And after she turned a year it got worse. And I always tried to just let it go because it got annoying fast. I would be frustrated if I were you. What better way to make nursing in public the norm and take the stigma and the "taboo-ness" out of it:giggle: than to do it often? There have been a lot of times where people actually didn't realize I was nursing a baby because it was so discreet. I say tell him to take a hike and do it whenever you want. Of course, I also have the most acrobatic nurser in the world right now who stands while nursing or rolls over:giggle: or goes from kneeling to sitting to standing to back down to laying so. . . . . .

My DH has no say in whether or not I nurse in public (nor does anyone else for that matter) because they aren't his boobies!

:dunno:

You are wonderful for providing this opportunity for LG. She obviously enjoys being there.

ok OT - I have seen people with their pic being something that is like a slideshow between a few pics....how do i make one of those? thanks

Usually involves photoshop. There are a few websites where you can provide the pics and they create it for you, but I don't have any of those links on this computer.

DH does prefolds all day. He won't let me buy anything else and doesn't use the fitted diapers that I have made. He's been putting sposies on Sadie for her naps though. She doesn't get cloth much anymore. The wetness makes her stay awake sometimes, and we need her napping consistently yet.

I managed to accomplish most of my agenda for today. We are still working on getting the girls asleep (Sadie is putting up a fight), and I have a little work to do before school tomorrow, but otherwise ok.

WARNING: this is possibly the longest multi-quote I've ever written. I apologize in advance!

FaeryGnomeHome, welcome! Those diapers look awesome...I particularly love the pink skulls print. If I had a girl she would be drowning in girly skull print stuff, I think it's so cute.

Flo, if you find a good booties pattern that can be sized up let me know...I've been trying to find one to use to knit wool socks for DS but most of the patterns seem to be written for newbies or 3 year-olds. It's so cold here that his little cotton socks don't do diddly for keeping his feet warm.

On the shoes system discussion, I have to show off a little...housing is totally luck of the draw and in most respects our place is pretty good, but this closet in the entry way is really what made me fall in love with it:

http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq105/hmrees/DSCN2534.jpg
http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/qq105/hmrees/DSCN2536.jpg

Dominic, welcome!

Lisathena, I'm so glad your dd is home with you, I know you've been missing her!

Woohoo! We got Dominic, we got Dominic (it's like picking teams in gym class). :giggle:

:roflmbo:

Love all the pics of everyone's LOs...such cute babies and kiddos!

QOTD: Dyed, unbleached, or bleached for PFs?

For the longest time I only wanted my bamboo pfs to be dyed, but recently I've started loving the idea of dyed cotton pfs as well. I traded for a few LWI dyed ones, bought a couple more, and thanks to whoever posted about the GENY sale a few days back (Rebecca, was that you?) I have a few dyed/embellished ones on their way here. I like having a bit of both.

Sara, I hope Isaac feels better soon, it's no fun having a sick LO. How sad that those orange longies are getting to short in the rise, I love those!

I'm the only nursing mother that DH has had much contact with, so he just thinks it's absolutely normal to nurse whenever, wherever. It's wonderful. DS is also the only baby he's ever diapered, so there was no resistance to cloth diapering. He's been a blank slate for me to write on. :giggle:

:roflmbo: :roflmbo: My DH is the same way for the most part. He does know that people consider us weird for CDing, but for the most part he gets a kick out of the fact that we're countercultural in that respect. Poor guy has too much conformity forced on him working a gubment job, he has to enjoy nonconformity even if it's in the form of diapers. :lostit:

Mel, :hugs: to you guys and sending get-well-soon vibes your way!

mommy2bugnbugga, :welcome:

just quoting myself to say this one isnt on ravelry. look. i made dh stop a joanns for yarn. it says that they used the fishermans wool. i will dye it once im done. not sure what color yet. but look at it.

I love that, if I had a girl to put it on I would be all over it.

I really need an idea or 2 on how to come up with a little xtra $$....I've been trying to sell all of the diaper stuff that we aren't using but even at "name your own price" prices no one seems to be interested....I listed some stuff on Craigs list and got very few responses....There is no way to have a yard sale right now thanks to the snow but I really really need to have a bit of pocket $$ right now.... I thought about babysitting but don't really know anyone to sit for...the only thing I'm really good at is laundry  sorry, I'm just bummed right now...

:hugs:

:gah:   :fit: Levi's peepee burn, which I thought was healed is now getting bad again and it bled a little again, after 2 days of being back in cloth, and that's still w/ doing sposies at night! He's been coverless nearly this whole time, so he's getting changed as soon as he pees. I don't know what to do!

:hugs: I'm so sorry! I second the boiling idea, although that certainly is a huge pain. I would think if the problem were bacteria in your water that the bleach would have killed it? I know you usually did a load with a couple of tablespoons of bleach, but have you tried doing a load with Tide to the 2 line and 1/4 cup of bleach? I had to do that a while ago when DS was having rash and stink issues, and although I had to rinse a gazillion times in hot water, but it did fix the situation.

Cheryl, I love those longies, they're so cute! I actually really like the look of crocheted longies and shorties..clearly I need to learn to crochet more efficiently. I'm checking out some links on left-handed crocheting at Shirley's suggestion, and I think that might help me.

:roflmbo: :roflmbo: :roflmbo:

TIA!

Sometimes if you wash too many pfs together in a load they rub against each other and get pilly like that. Like mamazluv said, the problem usually resolves itself after a few washes and dries, but you might want to try washing them in smaller loads and throwing in a little Ecover to speed up the recovery process.

MaMaMeA4, congrats on scoring the nice yarn! So far the spendiest woolies yarn I've invested in is the 100purewool stuff that's like $9 a skein...I'm trying really hard to stay away from the TIG and WAHM-dyed $20 a skein stuff but it's so beautiful...:drif:

My DH has no say in whether or not I nurse in public (nor does anyone else for that matter) because they aren't his boobies!
