View Full Version : She self-weaned, and I'm waiting for my emotional crash...

DD is 13 months. I'm so happy that we made it this far! Over the past week, she's been nursing less and less. A few nights ago, she was squriming and turning away for her bedtime feeding. So, I just put her down and she slept right through the night. She wasn't interested the next morning either! I've offered a few more times since then, but she just suckles for a few seconds then lets go. She self-weaned! I'm really very proud of the fact that I let her do it on her own. It seems so natural and sweet.

Now...

When DS weaned, I remember my emotions going totally haywire for a few weeks. So far, it's been a few days, and I'm feeling normal. Do you think my emotions will go crazy again or did I somehow slide under the hormonal radar???

I'm glad things went so smoothly! When my sons weaned, it was no big deal for either of us. I'm hoping to wean dd sooner than later, and I'm afraid she's going to want to nurse till she's 16! LOL! This is almost certainly our last child, so I'm kind of wondering about my emotions this time, too. Good luck. ((Hugs))

That is fabulous!

I haven't had the emotional crash with DS #2 weaning, and I definitely did with DS #1.

I think it helps when you know (from previous kidlet) that the emotional attachment doesn't disappear just because the nursing relationship is gone. With DS #1, I imagined that he'd stop wanting to cuddle, and that turned out to be false.

WTG on the one year milestone!

Wow, my DD done the same thing, except she started at about 11 months. I really wanted her to have breastmilk for one complete year so we kept our night feedings and I pumped so she could get the milk through sippy or bottle. One week after she turned 1 she was comletely done with me and would not nurse even at night. It was liberating but very hard emtionally, I didn't crash but I thought about it:giggle: . Keep a postive outlook on it, stay chipper, and no crash insight for you either!

I wonder what it is that makes them decide to wean?
