:D Great title!
Well, I finished the hubby's hat yesterday and gave it to him when he came home from work...and it looked really funny on him. it looks great on me though, so I guess I have a new hat. He has a crew cut and his ears stick out a bit, so I think I need something that is firmer and holds his ears down. I'll be cruising ravelry for ideas later. :)
Scrappies question--I'm collecting quite the pile of miniature yarn balls with all these FOs flying off the needles in the past couple of weeks. Soooo, I'm wondering how many colors you all typically use for scrappies? And someone had posted something about a dice-rolling method? Can you tell me more about that? :)

i don't know about number of scraps. i think it all depends.
for the dice rolling method. you assign each number a colorway.
you roll once to figure out which colorway to use and a second time to determine how many rows of that colorway to knit.
i'm guessing if you have more then 6 colorways you will need to use two die (or is it di?)

Can you insert a lifeline and then frog back to that? That's what my friend who is kind of like my knitting mentor told me to do when I was knitting the bridal veil and messed up and needed to frog back. (I ended up frogging the whole thing and starting over through)
mmm woodland tale...

No help on picking up the dropped stitches, but can't wait to see pics. My clapotis I made a few years ago turned out a bit smaller than I'd hoped as well.

I usually use 5 or 6 colors, but it depends on how wide you want the stripes :goodvibes:
Dd slept *wonderfully* last night. I really think the humidifier helped a lot. I managed to knit next to her in bed for a good 1 1/2 hours.

good morning everyone! I'm feeling MUCH better today. And so is DH! :yay:
I started my Ponderosa last night and am in love with it again. I wasn't sure when it arrived if I was just going to FSOT it but have started a pair of NB longies and so far love how it is knitting up. i'll post pics when I get a bit more progress. :)
I also should get a pair of large longies cast on in Woodland Tale for a friend. I have the yarn that looks like chenille. Seriously soft! I forgot what the base is called though.
And I"m putting Elliot aside for now. i just can't get into it anymore. :( I think all of the pooling I've battled has finally gotten to me. I know once I finish the gusset and start the legs they should go fine but I'm still annoyed at them. :giggle2:

I've been so behind on everything and we're getting ready to leave again. I'm almost done w/ DD's 3IG pants and I love how they are working up. I just need a shirt to match now...
My DH's cousin is a father as of yesterday. It is a very confusing situation. Until yesterday we weren't sure if it was his or not :( They were just dating at the time and I guess he wasn't the only one she was "dating" He thought he was the only one and gave up his good job to move home and get her and the baby a house, wanted to marry her, etc. Then her aunt told him she was just using him to get money, yada yada. Poor guy has been through so much. I am going to whip up a hat for the baby now that I guess they are sure it is his baby? I'm also going to see if I can do some newborn pics for them  Funny, b/c they just found out he is going to have a brother this year! His step-mom is 5 weeks pregnant. I always find that entertaining. I have a sister that is 15 months older than Clay :giggle:

They're fun to knit! And it's a pretty easy exercise in keeping tension even so that increases and decreases are easy to do.
Question for you: I will need to embellish the tush on the longies I'm getting from the yarn for woollies swap: http://www.danceswithchairs.blogspot.com/
I think the longies color is a perfect base for fish! If I were to knit and then felt a fish, about how much do they felt? Is 25% of size a good guess? Does it depend on the type of wool? And will I need wool thread to sew on the embellishment?

Cute fish!! I have no idea on the embellishment other than you can sew them on with just the same yarn you used for the embellishment which holds the best. You can also use thread but it tends to cut the yarn if stretched and dealt with too much. I have never felted anything myself so I hope someones can give you some insight into that.

That's too bad. I used to be fairly unstable. A lot of it was due to a prior emotionally abusive relationship and a big factor (IMO) was birth control pills/hormones. Once I got off those I mellowed out completely. And of course having a wonderful guy who stuck by me (and is now my DH) was a huge help!

Morning all!! I can't type too much as I'm excited to go knit on RFR. :D
Dev, I think your fish is darling...and I'm curious too! :giggle: If you choose to felt, expect about 30% shrinkage. To sew on, either use the yarn, or get an embroidery floss. Not thread...it's a bugger. ;) I too think you may want to consider duplicate stitch. It's really not hard, just time consuming. No more time consuming than stitching a felted piece on though. ;)
Melissa...what a sad situation. Any chance he could have custody of the baby if she's unstable? If he ever wants custody or visitation...he should be 100% sure of paternity and get on the birth certificate. :hugs: Yay for NB knits though!

myla those are adorable. i'm going to do that exact cuff on the Woodland Tale.
Opinions: Natural waistband in 1 x 1 rib.
Colorway for body and legs (D'uh!)
Ruffle: double with the natural as the ruffle myla did then just a wavy under ruffle in colorway? or just one ruffle? I just don't like the idea of a white ruffle even on capris as I know just how dirty it is going to get.
Thoughts?

Colorway ruffle. Personally, I think that this ruffle doubled would be a bit much. I'm not a girly-ruffle-y kinda girl either though. And as for white as a leg cuff? I think that's not a great idea if you're making it for a walker (is it for your DD?) but if it were a noobie, I'd say yes cause it's not getting dirty in that case. ;)
either am i myla. i don't really like the big ruffles :hide:
but i didn't want white as the ruffle (yes, my DD) even as a capris because she will get it dirty.
so colorway ruffle then. i was just thinking it would need some contrast. maybe I'll do a seed stitch stripe before i begin the ruffle. hmmm....must think on this.

I was thinking 4 rows of double seed, then bind off. I dont like a garter edge...Thoughts, anything more original??

That sounds like it might be nice. I'm not a big fan of the huge ruffles either.
I do like the cuff that Heather did for us. It's a seed stitch eyelet flare cuff, but not a lot of flare. It's done in the trim yarn with the colorway yarn threaded through and tied.

Freckles pattern users - question! I started a NB pair last night/yesterday and got into the short rows but now am realizing it's medium sized! My gauge is fine. When I compare stitch count to the Sheepy pattern it's a medium size. 80 sts for the body. The Sheepy uses 64 sts for the body on a NB. :headscratch:

hey Sarena that is the same skirts i did for my girls except in the big girl pattern with no attached soaker:) what i did was basically a seed stotch hem with 3rows seed, 1 eyelet row, then 3 more rows seed what i will be doing is going to the store and getting some ribbon to thread through the bottom eyelet row i think it will look soooo cute, i wish i could have done it before now but i had surgery then everyone is sick ugh maybe today i can sneek out since hubby is home today:)

Yeah, I'm loving that kind of cuff, too. I don't have my own girl but it just looks like they won't get in the way as much when the little one is walking around, yk? Too bad they're a little more time consuming to do, but the effect is worth it.
ARGH!! I was watching Sex & the City and finishing up a cuff on pkat's longies, and I forgot to change needle size..... I need to frog it and redo, I'm going to finish the other leg first though.... I hate stupid mistakes...
Are you watching the reruns on TBS? I've been watching them every night while I knit bc I haven't seen them before.

hey Sarena that is the same skirts i did for my girls except in the big girl pattern with no attached soaker:) what i did was basically a seed stotch hem with 3rows seed, 1 eyelet row, then 3 more rows seed what i will be doing is going to the store and getting some ribbon to thread through the bottom eyelet row i think it will look soooo cute, i wish i could have done it before now but i had surgery then everyone is sick ugh maybe today i can sneek out since hubby is home today:)
Thanks Katie, I thought it was what you did and I was trying to figure out your hemline!! I think another 7 rows may be too much since my lo is still small though. DId you do a single or dbl seed? I will try it and see though....
Ah, I like the ribbon idea....

Heading out for a while but will be back later!
The Freckle Sizes are larger than the Sheepy Sizes. The Freckle Medium is more in line with other medium sizes.
Some version of Yeps are more pastel. That BFL version is the only one that is bright.

np! ya i think 7 would be way to many on a skirt that size too
i did single seed on the girls
what about 2 rows double seed, eyelet row then 2 more rows double seed then bind off?
or you could even do 2 rows single eyelet 2 rows single?

So pretty! I'm planning on using that cuff for my next pair of ruffled longies :goodvibes:
 It's so fun! I don't find it's any more time consuming than any other ruffle I've done. It's the anticipation of finishing it up to see how it falls att he bottom that kills me! LOL!
WT ruffles....hum...I agree they could use some contrast....I'd put some natural in there somehow....hum....thinking.... ;)
Myla...phooey...I love that colorway. ;) (Though, it's not exactly common to find an instock pair with a 24" hip anyway! ROFL!)
LOL, You'd be surprised. I've had some scrappies sitting in the dark for like, 6mo that are 2t sized. ;) Not to mention that I've had YYMN with that size hip before too. :giggle:

Just popping in since I have a free minute...and LOL at the discussion of the skirty, presumably the Smartypants Knits skirty right? I just caught it at the top of the page. LOL because my knitting buddy and I are getting ready to start off on a project together and we picked the Juliette skirty, but we didn't want the pleats...so what we had settled on was pretty similar to the one on Smartypants knits. Man, that one is so cute!! Now I'm totally psyched to get started.
eta nope you were talking about something else! :)
Annie's been fussy for what seems like forever b/c she has four molars all cutting through at once and they're just coming in so slow. We've been sleeping like total crap and then she wants to be held a ton each day. I was getting really bummed because our house is kind of a PIT as a result, not to mention I've barely gotten any knitting done, but then I remembered that this is only such a short period of time and she really needs me. Sometimes it's hard being a baby!

Thanks so much Monica! Yes, I can only imagine how much that hurts. It is pretty hard to distract her sometimes and I try to limit how much Motrin I give her...it's the only thing that really seems to give her relief. Chamomile is kind of a joke with this type of teething.

hey girls!! beautiful stuff on here today. I need some advice. I want to knit up something for MIL b-day on the 16th. What's a good quick project?
I also want to put together a "how to knit" gift for her. she can't knit but wants to learn. I am thinking a good set of needles a cool pattern with instructions a book and some yarn. Does that sound good?
now WIP for me.............woodland tale longies are almost done. I am loving them. We are having some awesome 60 degree sunshine today. Both kids are napping, so I am going to lay on the hammock on the deck and finish up those longies. :)

So here it is, made this morning. I think it is far to twirly and next time, I would only do the increases on every 4th row , not every other--especially for a size M (12 months-ish). http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3297/3263401761_627d976c82.jpg
Now on to the soaker and I-cord!! I think I will stick with a solid (the yarn is somewhat tweedy)I-cord and then it will be a true "denim" outfit, neutral colorwise.

I do! I just bought a big bottle of unscented. It is so lanolin heavy I don't have to add extra lanolin to it. I like the Yuzu scent but you have to be light handed with it or you can smell it across the room. I also like Tahiti Sweetie but it is very fruity.

Heading out for a while but will be back later!
Anyone else? It seems so huge for a newborn size! 80 sts at 5spi. That's 16" hips and the waistband is over 2"... Any pics of NB Freckles longies?

The RFR currently have one butt cheek that seems to want to be orange and one that wants to be white....laugh with me...that's freaking hillarious! I know that 2-4 stitches would fix it up perfect. Now...am I lazy? I may just work an increase in the next short row...and ignore it. ;)

Dead concerts...oh, the good old days! rofl! The last one was in Seattle before he died and it was sold out way before we got tickets so we just walked outside downtown and hung out with the hippies.. it was so weird.. one area was like the *dark* area and the other was *happy* my BF and his BFF at the time were *trippin* and I was sober person (9/10 times I was the sober one) and that was the first concert that i bought my fairy necklace from. it's broken (the beads) but I still have the fairy
Madison's dad started a collection of the Dead head Bears and I have those stored a way in a tote for her. And he was a HUGE ded/Phish fan/ we saw Phish at the Gorge in George on a HOT summer night and that was soo fun.. I was sober too and to see such wild happy people was so fun.

Howdy ya'll! Its so nice here today, sunny about 68 degree's. My older girls had to be all but dragged in for lunch and then back out they went. So nice to see spring is on the way. I started a skirty for dd. I forgot how much I don't like the flat knitting of the soaker though. I think the next one i do will have shorts under so I can avoid that part. It just drags for me, but I am about half way done on the soaker finally. I can't wait to actually start the skirt part. I am using purewool in Joanico, decided it was the perfect spring colors.
I have to show you this WIP. This is my BFL Lughnasagh handspun and it is so silky soft. I tried getting a picture without too much in the background.

Oh my :drif:
That is gorgeous and I have used Joy before and love it too!!
Here is my WIP, I am up to the hemline and not sure what to do but do know I dont want to add more stitches or a ruffle. What about 5 rows of double seed?
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3384/3263038753_e321ef9d22.jpg
I started it this morning and was even out for 1.5 hours. I am kinda impressed with myself. I am gonna call it a denim twirl skirt. Yeah, I have had this yarn in my stash for probably 5 years now!!
So cute! I am working on a skirtie, well the soaker for it. They take me way longer to do than that though.
Here's pics of the skirty:

I still like her, I was just a little obsessive about it :giggle: That whole teen angst woe is me attitude, kwim?
Speaking of woe is me, my hands are aching from all of these ruffle rows :roflmbo: Only one more increase row left. I'm getting that I'm sick, I've been knitting for too long, eyes are blurry, feeling crazy feeling. :yuck: need to take a break.
lol I was like that last night, knitting for 2 hours sans kids.. ahhhhh I had to get up and walk around to let the blood flow.. plus there was music and I was starting to fall asleep.

Gotcha. Here is Fruitful with light pink:

which I like, though I'd prefer a color that makes it pop more w/o looking too dark.
green or blue

well, we aren't "from" there. just lived there. He is from upstate NY i'm from VA...but we both WANT to be out there again. We met here in undergrad and moved there a week after graduation.
And we will be back out there. Its exactly where I want to raise my kids. The thought of raising them in this southern city kills me (no offense. I'm born here afterall) But in my city, there are still many MANY stuates of confederate soldiers lining one of the cities major streets. Enough said.

Seriously, that's what my mom smells like - sandalwood and patchulli (I can't spell today, brain.not.working)
I got a pr. of shorties that were washed in it and about hit the floor laughing, I didn't realize they could make a wool wash smell like that. :giggle:
It does cover the smell of a nasty diaper well though, I must say!! :roflmbo:
I have smelled the sandalwood too and I have to say, I just think it smells like armpits. LOL. And the other one I stay away from is the chai (spice?) which I swear smells like moldy basement. Lovely!
