Good morning everyone. I'm trying to wake up over coffee so I can add my second row of short rows into the Ravensong shorties.

Ok, so here is my question.
I'm planning on knitting a sweater for my lo. Size 2t, (I'm thinking if I start now it'll be done by next winter . . .) How much yarn will I need, and can I use superwash merino? From what I understand that isn't a good yarn for longies, but since this is a sweater will it work?

Goodmorning ladies. Dh is getting Gab up this morning so I can lay and check email for about 15 precious mins.

Morning mamas.
OK- I am stuck and I need some help pretty please. So I completed my waist band, did my increases, started into the colorway and am ready to start short rows (which have me totally baffled). I have a couple of questions.... Thus far I have not used stitch markers and I guess I need some huh? I do know my exact starting point, so, where and how do I place the stitch marker and what common household item can I use if I own no stitch markers? I am confused where to "begin" with short rows. :gah: HELP!

Kristi, just saw your post in the other thread. I'm thinking you could use scrap yarn in a different color and just tie it in loops, maybe?

You can tie a contrasting color of yarn into a loop and use that as a stitch marker. What pattern are you using? I like Sheepy Pants short rows but use this method (http://www.woolywonder.com/forums/showpost.php?p=74291&postcount=34).

OK- yes. Both of those (scrap yarn and rubberbands) So- I know this is stupid  but what do I do? just thread it onto the needle? Before or the first stitch in the row? And I need to be able to remove it later right? Anyone have a pic? I know this is the most simple thing ever LOL

Stitch markers just slip onto your needles before you get to your stitch location. They travel with you knitting so you can always just slip them off later. You don't knit them in. :)

Yes, I love all the pictures! A bit more complicated than the Sheepy short rows but it closes them up tighter... You can just use the short row placement of the Sheepy pattern and this method.

I did this, too! And even after my first class I continued to do it. :giggle2: When I was knitting the calorimetry, the knits and purls were equally tough b/c I was twisting the knits. So I'd read posts from knitters who hated the purls, and I couldn't understand why...and I was so slow!

With a rubber band do you know how to do a slip knot kind of thing? I think contrasting yarn may be easier, it wont stick to the needle that way.

Well DH got the 3yo on the bus and is taking the cars for oil changes today. I should be able to get some sewing done this morning as I think he's taking the LO to the 10am appt... I have to say, DH has been a huge help this week! Folding laundry, dishes, picking up, changing diapers, getting the kids ready, fed, dressed, played with... He even dumped off a diaper - I nearly :thud:. LOL He always just leaves dirty dipes in the bathroom. To be fair, my LO's never "plop" either.
He did say he appreciates what I do now! And that he would go insane if he had to stay home full time. He likes the pace of work. :)
I should make some good progress on my WT longies today too. I have to close the gusset and pick up the legs and then I'm home free.

Superwash would work great! And for the amount you should look at your pattern it will usually tell you exactly how many yards you need.

But it's only 70 yds of bulky. So do I want a scarflette (I actually don't have a scarf right now) or should I use it as trim for a different project for me? And if so, what project -- any suggestions?

400 should be enough, I know I made a 2T size one (different pattern obviously) and 400 yds was more then enough -- so you would think that in most patterns it would be close to the same.

Well the LO is happy with a waffle now. He's been eating like a monster lately! He's usually my picky skinny butt. I'm thinking a growth spurt is around the corner. :)
So I'm finishing up a few sewing jobs and then taking a break to sew for my own LOs and then a babymoon. I'm going to miss the extra $ though! I am just too preggo and unpredictable (sick, tired, achy) to commit to things. Should I just do a bit of instock so there is no commitment? Nothing is moving instock though. :(
And I'm really booked up on knitting so the new baby will probably only end up with 2 knit longies and lots of fleece. No biggie... Fleece is easy to toss in the wash. :)

Ooh, that colorway is gorgeous, and you are doing it proud, mama!
Hi everyone! I am about three rows and a bind-off away from being done with the mermaid skirtie. The ruffle has seriously taken me over 4 hours, and there's still more to go. I don't know that I'll be making any more of these. It's a gorgeous pattern, but holy moly the ruffle is insane. I'm going to be photographing everything for my HC listings tonight (I hope), so I'll try to come back and post a pic.
And I'm borrowing the hubs' computer again. It is slower than Christmas! I am hoping beyond hope that I'll magically find the part I need to fix mine before friday because I really want to stalk RFR--I'm desperate for that yarn!!! (you hear me T? DESPERATE!) :giggle2: If not, I might have to hang out in the music studio on Friday so that I can stalk it from the computer in there. Hmmm... I wonder how I can entertain the boys without breaking any expensive musical equipment?
OKay, time to nurse the boys and put them down for their nap... I hope to be back later.
Whoa! Dude. What stitch is that? That looks great!!
I was wondering the same thing. Almost looks like 1x1 rib?

Good morning!:wave2: Thought I would say a quick hello this morning before heading out for a busy day. I got my first circular needle yesterday and actually cast on last night for some practise, but kind of got stuck. I think I saw a tutorial on knittinghelp so I will have to check that out tonight. I am like you Kristi, I get scared too! :giggle:
Lots of gorgeous WIP today. I can't wait to come back tonight and see what is posted. I just love :drif: over all the wool in this thread.
Molly - you are not alone. I have a new no TV rule in my house during the week. The kids are zombies during watching and monsters after I turn it off! Only hockey games allowed:giggle2: .
Good thing I will be away today or my pp will be damaged with these (http://hyenacart.com/prod_details.php?id=65171&vid=994) lovelies. I actually wasn't in love with this colourway until I saw these! :drif:
Can I ask about needle size? I have 16" size 8s circular and was wondering if I need 5s or 6s for the 12" circluars to use for the legs of longies (eventually). I am a tight knitter.

quick question! How can I get stinky wool wash out of a pair of FSOT longies? They are gorgeous and fit him perfectly, but they literally smelled so strongly when I took them out of the package that I had to wash my hands and change my shirt from handling them :yuck: I've washed them 3 times with Dawn already and they still smell just not as much. Could I soak in vinegar water or something like that! Please help, I don't want to have to sell them

Hi Everyone  I am back!
My girls had "mid-winter" vacation from last Friday through yesterday so last minute we decided to go down to visit the in-laws for the weekend. On Saturday night DH and I (and ds... still BFing so he's attached to me :giggle:) escaped to Williamsburg Virginia for two days :) My girls stayed with my ILs. They had so much fun with their grandparents... I think they would have stayed there :)
We spent Sunday and Monday at Colonial Williambsburg. Guess how much time I spent watching the spinning and weaving :giggle2: I spent a long time speaking to the woman who does the weaving about dyeing wool the "old school" way. I think I prefer my powdered acid dyes to ground up beetles :giggle: I also took a spinning class Monday Evening (using a drop spindle) I really have to practice. My first "yarn" (if you can call it that) ranges from super bulky thickness to sock yarn.. it is all over the place
Monday night we drove back to the ILs and yesterday evening we came home. I have so much laundry to do, and unpacking... :hide:

I finally have a few minutes to myself -- poor Viv her ears must be killing her even fully dosed on Motrin (the tylenol isn't cutting it anymore) she spent the whole morning crying (and I mean wailing). We have an apt in a few hours and she seems to have settled now that we've dropped Lil off at school and she is down for a nap. Her cough sounds terrible as well so I hope we got her in soon enough.
Off to snap some pictures and then I will post those :)

Good morning everyone. I'm trying to wake up over coffee so I can add my second row of short rows into the Ravensong shorties.
I am so excited to see them. I cast mine on too but I only have like 4 rows done.
Superwash will work but sometimes Superwash still shrinks and felts when you wash it so wash a swatch before you throw it in the machine.
OK- I will try again LOL...
:gah: HELP!
Common house hold items: rings, washers, earrings, safety pins, yarn, rubber bands.
I'm right there with you, Kristi! Waiting for my coffee to kick in. What yarn are you knitting with?
And speaking of yarn, I need ideas please. I promised myself this yarn: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=7772421 when I learned to knit. It's about time I purchase it. But it's only 70 yds of bulky. So do I want a scarflette (I actually don't have a scarf right now) or should I use it as trim for a different project for me? And if so, what project -- any suggestions?
Oh I have 2 skeins of Ume. I don't know what to do with it either :giggle:
Nice Aimee, who gets those beauties? Are they a YYMN?

Good morning! Hopefully I can participate more today, although my baby girl is still suffering from her teething. :( I was so frustrated because I had 10 rows to go on her longies last night and was sure I was going to finish them off after she went to bed...and she woke every hour, then every 10 minutes so I just had to put it down and go to bed with her. She thrashed around a ton but finally settled then. This morning she wants to be held and won't go down for a nap. I have TWO ROWS left. I need to just get over it and be i nthe moment with her but I get very obsessive when I am so close to the finish line! :giggle:
Oh and I'm PO'd because my sbish tote finally came the other day and it was insured...so the mail lady didn't even BOTHER to ring our doorbell (we were all home so I am positive we didn't miss her) and now it's been sitting at the PO for 2 days b/c the local PO is out in the boonies and we haven't been able to get there. Maybe today is dd will cooperate and I have a car. Okay, there's my stupid rant.

Oh they are actually really clean, that is not the problem. They just smell like someone soaked them in straight perfume :yuck: Even after washing 3 times with Dawn the longies next to them in the drawer smell like that wool wash now. Possibly but I choose to rationalize. I would spend about 60 on one pair of longies (including yymn and cheap yarn like PW) so I figure I can spend that much on enough yarn to make two pairs.

Prefolds are awesome, we finally have an easy streamlined stash and diapers for all of our needs. I have enough yarn to keep me knitting for years and there really isn't any colorways I am ISO.
I guess I'll have more time to knit and maybe work on some spring cleaning around here since I don't have anything I "need". Actually there really isn't anything I even "want". I guess this must be "stash nirvana" :headscratch: :giggle2:

I'm guessing knit all the way around till you see the other yo. and then K2 to close that gap. Then you're done with that short row.
(your sr method is a little different than mine. . so that's why I'm 'guessing')

It's totally subjective. . there are TONS of ways to place short rows. . but I'd tell you to knit about an inch (or whatever your pattern says) and insert another one. . this time further in from your marker than the first.

No worries. . we all started somewhere . . Lisa probably wanted to block my phone number when I was learning short rows. .:giggle:
So you have markers on each hip. . right? If the first short row started 2 sts before the marker, than this next will be 4 sts before the marker. (this is concrete though. . like I said, MANY ways to do this). So I think 14 sounds good, but I'm not quite sure about the pattern your using. Does that make sense?

As usual, everything is looking so good today! I am itching for some nice wool but for now, so here is my current WIP, a cotton V neck vest for my grandson for the spring! I am calling it Basic geometry. I basically am going with whatever calls to me. Back will be solid navy. Armholes and neckline I plan to do rib in whatever color strikes my fancy, perhaps even stripe 'em.

Ok so Im going to make a pattern purchase soon (i mean it this time:roflmbo:). However I need to know what patterns would be best suited to my personal preferences? I want a slimmer leg w/o a huge gusset, gathered short rows, and im not picky on cuff choices. So basically similar to the current pattern with an actual gusset knit into the rise and different short rows.

Hmmm I think you should maybe try the Picky Pants pattern by Little Turtle Knits. It has gathered short rows (I actually like the short row placement), some cool options for adding increases, and the gusset was easy to work and not terribly wide, the legs aren't what I would call wide but they aren't really slim either -- although that is something you can easily fiddle with if you want.
What pattern are you using now I don't remember.

Just the freebie aubreydoodle pants one. Its got spaced out short rows and no gusset. I like it but Id prefer to do the short rows in one fell swoop and I cannot seem to figure out how to do it without instructions. The legs are perfect on it as I prefer a more snug fit because its easier to cuff if the legs are a little long (I admit to not getting exact measurements on inseam for dd because she wont stay still long enough LOL).

We are lucky because our ped is really relaxed about vax's also. We were at our appointment yesterday and they said that they are out of HIB right now and since supply is low they might not have it back for a year.

Molly -- glad the yarn is so awesome and I'm really sorry I tried to talk you out of it! :hide: can't wait to see what beautiful thing it becomes.
Jen (you are Jen right, Peach? LOL) our ped is pretty good that way too. I suspect many peds are having to become a bit more open minded as more parents opt out of vaxing due to the autism questions.
I bundled the kids in the car and drove to the post office, which is in the boonies, and it was CLOSED FOR LUNCH and I couldn't wait, or go back later, because dh needs the car for the rest of the day. I am about to lose it over this stupid sbish package.
And dd is finally asleep so I am off to finish her pants!! Can't wait to try them on her when she wakes and see if they fit her even remotely. LOL.

get a 1# box of baking soda about a buck at the grocery store, poor it in a gallon zip lock bag or a small trash bag put the wool in seal it up air tight and let them sit for 4-6 days
take them out wash and hang outside in the shade to dry for 2 days

I have some questions for ya'll too :D
What are your favorite colors as far as for your own personal use on your children? Mine are (obviously) turquoise, brown, certain shades of green, and pinks. I noticed last night doing laundry Matthew has a lot of reds blues and so does Aidan and oranges. Madison well she loves pinks purples and white. I myself love browns blues and reds.

Man I am so peeved at my neighbor. We've had problems with this one guy for a few years now. He used to drive up and down the street at 2am with his little probe with one of those awful coffee can sized mufflers that are really loud. Then when I said something to him he graduated to trying to scare me by nearly hitting me. We've called the cops on him a few times for disturbing the peace and for almost hitting me and the girls but they did nothing. Last week he tried to hit dh and before that he got right up on my bumper and tried to ram me with my girls in the car! Now today Im pulling out of my driveway and I see him all the way on the corner of the first block of our street (im on the second block) He decided to race down the street and start honking like a maniac when I was halfway pulled out of my driveway. Im ready to go down to his house tonite and let all the air out of his tires. Im just sick of him and his childish crap and the police dont seem to care even though Ive told him this guy is a menace.

The Selkie looks purdy, not sure if I'd love it either...I'd love to see pics of the actual skeins!
Okay, technical question here gals...
I'm about to start the body on my Gaia II longies and I am going to have to alternate skeins since one is noticeably a bit brighter than the other.
So once I get to the legs...I was planning on ML'ing them. So if I alternate skeins does that mean I need to have 4 balls of yarn on the go?
That just sounds awfully complicated  Maybe I should just knit the legs separately...? Help!

It would mean 4 balls of yarn. I do both legs at once, but if I had to do 2 balls of yarn on each one, I'd do them separately. I'm sorry. That stinks!

Ok. I went back and read, and the MM Selkie is on BFL. As much as I like MM yarn, I'm not so big on BFL. So I'll pass. Someone else buy it, so I can regret passing on it once it's knit up, ok? ;)

Here it is knit up on 3ply Merino. It was so pretty but it pooled like a you know what on the legs of this newborn pair -- I ripped these puppies out like 10 times trying to get the pooling to go away.

So I have a question regarding knit picks needles. Are the cables on them flexible like the addis?

That would really concern me! Sounds to me like he is threatening/endangering your life as well as your family's. Can you file a police report for harassment, maybe get a restraining order? I know it's just a piece of paper but it might be enough to make him keep his distance.

Us too! It was beautiful 60^ weather in NY today! I know it won't last but it was nice. ;)

Wow, beautiful! But I hate pooling, struggling with the same thing on my Elliot NB longies. They are in time out. :giggle2:

I hadnt thought of that but this guy does it sporadically. I dont know if they'd be able to unless it was a constant thing.

Doesnt look like a hole to me. Why not knit a few more stitches and see how it looks then?

okay I did 4 more stitches, where i am pointing (my right finger) - that's where it looks 'holey' to me.
