I don't generally like starting threads, but I'm impatient to get the wool chatter started this morning. :D
Gotta go pour myself a cup of coffee, then I'll be back with a wool question!

Okay, my wool question(s)...
I live outside Atlanta, so it's warm here much of the year. The boys have been wearing longies since about October, but won't be able to wear them much longer. I made their birthday longies a little big so they'll be able to wear them in the fall also.
So, I am trying to decide whether I should make the boys anymore longies for this winter, or whether I should focus on shorties? Here's what I've got set aside for the boys:
Pretty much settled on:
2 skeins MM Gwion on purewool--I think I'm doing matching shorties with this
2 skeins SWS Painted Desert--such a fallish colorway I'm leaning towards longies with this
Still up in the air:
2 skeins MM Guinevere on BFL (One pair of longies? Or two pairs of shorties?)
2 Skeins MM Copper Patina on Targhee (one pair longies? two pairs shorties?)
2 Skeins MM Copper Patina on purewool (one pair longies? possibly sell it?)
2 skeins Beemer Knits Pumpkin spice (one pair longies, two pairs shorties? It's a nice light colorway, could be good for spring)
I dunno, I'm kind of thinking of doing matchy shorties with the guinevere, the gwion, and the pumpkin spice, and then two pairs of copper patina longies and the SWS painted desert longies, and trying to get my hands on some RFR for another pair of fallish longies.
What do you think? Too many shorties? Too many matchy outfits?

I think you should go with more shorties since you live in GA and it will get warm enough to wear shorties soon. I don't think its too matchy, after all they are twins. :)
So who is stalking Elliebelly today?

Morning, I am a wool lover-non knitter. :P
I am now the proud owner of a pair of longies made with superwash wool (bummer) (an 'accident'). Any tips to make them moisture resistant at all?

aimee -- i'm planning on keeping abby in longies for a bit. and i'm right outside of atlanta too! (lilburn) i'll do shorties as well, but i'm really partial to longies.
today is a fairly busy day. i've got to finish packing up everything to get ready to start ripping up carpet tomorrow. we are going out to dinner for my birthday tonight (bday was yesterday). basically all this equals no knitting time!
i finally FINALLY have settled on a date for my Grand Opening! i started stocking my store last night! i'm kinda excited!!!!!!

Superwash is processed so much that it doesn't retain the original properties of wool. You can use them like you would acrylic and wash them after you use them for a day. Good news is you can wash them in a washer.

Good morning all. Yipee, yeah, Ahuva and i are going to a LYS today since they are having a moving/40% off sale. They dont have much in the way of diaper wool but perhaps some other stuff for summer vests/tops/superwash cardigans..etc!
Hope everyone has a nice woolie day!

Good morning! I havn't got much knitting done since my dr visit. Still trying to find another doc and work out the referrals and such. Was verbally abused for the third visit with him so I am done with that. Think I may have to drive to OKC now though for treatment. Two hours both ways, fun stuff:banghead:

I would do all shorts at this point, maybe one more set of longies but that would be it. I have already switched to shorts and skirts though for my girls.

You know you can lanolize it. It will help. They won't be as great as non treated wool but i have gotten superwash to work okay. Just be sure and use a really absorbant diaper under.

Well I like to match my boys for special occasions and they are three years apart :lostit:
I live in Greenville and I am already waiting on shorties for this season. It was 70 Saturday! While we may have a couple coldish days left this year I don't think it'll be enough for new longies unless they're made to be used in the fall as well. . .just my opinion as I know how hot it is in GA! Of course I'm not a weather forcaster, so I could be wrong. I'm just sticking with the longies we have for the rest of the season though. . . .then again we usually go pantsless at home so it isn't like we wear clothes a lot (oh, I wear pants, the boys don't :giggle2: )

I'm in Newnan (just south of Atl) and my dd is now wearing her skirties more than longies! Today it is supposed to be 68 and yesterday it was 74! I want a REAL February for once! :giggle2: I have started her "summer" wool wardrobe and have been working on soakers with ruffled leg openings and I have some licorice twist coming for a "thin" shortie/skirty (haven't made up my mind) and I have some more wool from my LYS to make soakers/shorties/skirties (depending on my mood and the shirt to match) anyways........I think I would make matching shorties for the twins! but I think if I had twins I would probably do the matchy, matchy anyway!

Oh and you can't have too many shorties! (Or longies!)
At least with my boys we live outside during the warm weather . . .so things have to be washed all the time! Sand and dirt are such a nuisance when it comes to wool. . .but I wont let my love get in the way of learning and play.

The mermaid set is so cute!!!
I love those buttknit longies. Cute! I wonder how comfortable the cable will be to sit on though.
ladybenz. I would do shorts at this point! I like darker colors for shorts so they don't get dirty playing outside. :) If you want to get rid of the CP let me know, I might be interested. ;) Either base is great!

Good call on the cable on butt. Hadnt thought of that. But I wanna try cables, its been too long since I have done any. perhaps I will make shorties with one down the side. You all think it would be weird to do only one side?

The mermaid skirtie pattern is a NB pattern, so not for walkers. Although, there is a big girl version, but again, that's not for NEW walkers.
I enjoyed the pattern, even though the ruffle took forever. I definitely love making girly woolies and dipes, since I don't have any girls, it gives me an outlet for my girly-girl tendencies. :D

I contacted a local knitter who owns a wool shop. And asked her to try and come up with a baby pants (she had never heard of longies) sample for me. She made a great acrylic pair on her very first attempt. Then we went ahead with this pair. All her work and yarn on both pairs she charged $26 Canadian! I will go back to her, but I guess I need to be more specific on the yarn. They have an elastic waist, and she is very comfortable going more 'fancy' next time (bigger ruffles, more detail, or stripes ect..)
Hmmm pic doesnt have the best lighting... oh well its still cute!

I'm knitting a pair of shorties and am on the cuff of the second leg and I'm running out of yarn :( It's next to impossible to get more yarn (I ordered it last year and have never seen that colorway again or before). Sigh. I have to rip out and reknit the cuff. Looks like it won't be ruffles. I just want to
:hugs: I'm SO sorry. I've had that happen to me with yarn that I dyed. I tend to do OOAK colors and had to restart all over again.

I had choice words for Eddie yesterday. I'll not share them here :eyes: But we went to Friendly's for lunch with gMIL and he was acting like a beast (I blame him being hungrier than a bear) and ended up knocking over a HUGE cup of Sprite - it landed all over the back of Ed's & my cellphones. Talk about removing myself and him from that. We spent a good 5 minutes in the ladies room talking about how much a jerk he was.

I can help you with the EB if you want, although it's a lotto to buy. :headscratch:
And I was totally drooling over the SMSS thing too. But ITA, $30 for 1 shirt even if it's completely droolworthy cause it's made with love by Carina is a bit steep for my wallet. ;)
There is a lotto and a BIN, I believe. I would love help, but no worries if not. I am to the point on yarn, that I will live without, but be happy with!!:giggle2:

I just want to sit and knit all day long. I'm being such a bad mama and letting Till watch TV today. I'm just sooo pregnant and it's difficult taking her out and about. Trying to wrangle a 2 year old and waddle along is no fun.
I CO some capris last night and got to the short rows. I'm just not doing well with them even though I've watched videos and looked at picture upon picture. Oh well. I'll get it eventually.

You can use them like you would fleece. I used them a lot when DS was a baby and got compression wicking, which was bad when we were out to breakfast and he peed on DH's leg, so you can use them over fitteds with caution or use them as regular pants.

Rachel I meant to post yesterday but never did RE your pregnancy pain. Have you tried a belly support band? I went to Disneyland (and the Star Wars convention :hide:) when I was 31 weeks with DS and used this http://www.maternitysupport.com/ and it was WONDERFUL. He was born 11lbs 4oz so by the end of my pregnancy I lived in the thing. I was having major round ligament pain. I also have a chiro that specializes in pregnant women and got a couple of adjustments that helped.

That would probably work. The legs have almost no felting so the skirt would probably be better. BFL felts way less so you could do the soaker in BFL.

Umm  Our t.v. is on kid's channel pretty much all day! My 3yo is in preschool so doesn't watch until he gets home. The LO will play a lot but does have a couple of shows he loves, like Wow Wow Wubbzy. I honestly don't know what else to do around here in the winter with them! They are not arts & crafts type of kids. We will be outside and at the pool/playground all summer but winters stink. Lots of cold, wind, snow, and sick kids. :(

I tried doing a zigzag short row yesterday which looked hideous. I just dont get how to avoid the gaps. I did the wwbn version of short rows and the last stitch of each row was very visible. Oh and we're pretty much not a TV house--I grew up without a TV, so I find it mildly irritating, unless it's something *I* want to watch, so it doesn't bother me not to have it on in the least, and they've never known any differently.
Hubby does let them watch motorcycle racing though. I guess that's okay. And when Joel was miserable with Roseola, I sat him in front of the tv with a tivo'd episode of american idol in order to keep him quiet long enough to cook his pancakes.

Usually around 12-15 months. But some of it depends on how long they sleep at night. ANd when they drop their AM nap, they often move their second nap....so instead of a 11 and 3 nap they will do a 12:30 nap and it is usually longer than either of the separate naps.

It is wonderful to find a ped who's personal beliefs are along the same lines and vice versa. We love our ped, who is also a p/t ped so that she can raise her girls and BF'd them.
She's very cute in that I asked if she'd be flexible with the vax schedule when we interviewed her and brought the Dr. Sears version, so now she keeps it on the wall in her office. When we come in for a wbv, we sit down and discuss it. I love that. In fact, she told me the other day that we might not have access to the separated MMR when Jessica turns a year old, so we'd be ok to wait until after 2 years.
And she LOVES our CD's and wool.
Thanks for the answer about the a.m. nap. I don't think it's being dropped yet. I think I have a "parandera" (anyone else speak Spanish in this thread?) who'd rather be enjoying the world than sleeping.

S quit at 11 months so luckily we were able to just go to milk rather then formula. Still made me sad as even through our troubles I enjoyed our "snuggle" time. She still has a fascination with breasts though for some reason so surprisingly enough I think she "remembers". She does ask for her "booies" sometimes but she just wants to mimic nursing.
My ped totally rocks too. Most peds would've told me to give up on bfing and just feed S formula because of the weight gain issue. He suggested formula to supplement but wasn't all like "you have to do this or im gonna call cps on you". Im so glad I had him because I dont think I would've made it as long as I did bfing her and in hindsight he was right. It wasnt a true bfing issue but rather she was just a pokey grower.
Oh my how cute are they. I have the colors to do sock monkey but haven't had the time yet. They turned out fabulous!

Most of the time he doesn't even watch the dvd's he just likes to have them on and then he goes and plays in his room
As soon as I turn them off he hears it and runs in to turn them on! Silly guy
Eddie's usually like that too - although he'll sit for all of Imagination Movers & Little Einsteins. He loves the music!
I'm trying these short rows out next time (you have to adjust them a bit for longies, but that seems easy enough) anyone ever tried these?

OOoh, I like that! I want to know how to do the flip side though. :headscratch:
That first MM is so pretty. I was just looking at my yarn earlier though and I have too much orange. :giggle: It is my favorite color but I don't realize how much I buy until it is all lined up.
Mine is all variations of blue, green teal & brown. :roflmbo:

My yarn diet has suddenly come to an end. Last week it was Elliebelly and this week MM, and now I have some yarn ordered from a coop. Oh and my TIG coop order is coming in next week or two.:lostit:

Paula...i'm really liking your giveaway because reading the entries is so much fun!! (And, I'm getting neck exercise from nodding in agreement. lol)
I'm really struggling with knitting right now....I hurt my dang wrist again. :( Pout.
I get a little misty eyed hearing all this talk of extended bf . I so wanted to do that even though we had bfing issues the first year but S had other plans.
Me too Jen, Sabella quit at 13 months and my son at 12 1/2 months. I fought with both of them but no go.....:hugs:
:hugs: to all of you :goodvibes:
I think my DD is weaning too, sigh. Somedays I am lucky to get her to nurse 3 times from morning to night.
My dd2 went a few months like that
You beat me too it! I can't wait to see what it looks like!
I know I can't wait. I need to finihs these shorties so I can get to DD dress and then I want to use the MM yarn. :drif:

Umm  Our t.v. is on kid's channel pretty much all day! My 3yo is in preschool so doesn't watch until he gets home. The LO will play a lot but does have a couple of shows he loves, like Wow Wow Wubbzy. I honestly don't know what else to do around here in the winter with them! They are not arts & crafts type of kids. We will be outside and at the pool/playground all summer but winters stink. Lots of cold, wind, snow, and sick kids. :( have you seen the pattern for Wubzy?
:wave2:
Another question--I have some cashmerino (like debbie bliss, but a different brand, and I've lost the tag) I know it has a small amount of microfiber content, but if I were just to use it as a pocket to embellish one of the pairs of shorties about to cross my needles, do you think it would work okay? It matches one of the colors in gwion PERFECTLY. Your thoughts?
I know I'm always harassing you all with yarn questions, I don't mean to be a PITA, but I don't know who else to ask these things!!! I think it would be fine.
The mailman just came :lostit: :lostit: :lostit: :lostit:

Then my yarn diet will be OVER! :lostit:

And Ahuva, I am :drif: over that gorgeous handspun! Perfect summery colors!
I think the Romanator has an ear infection. I squirted some breastmilk in his ears (which at the very least made him laugh), made an appointment with our pediatrician for tomorrow morning and I'm planning on a long night tonight.
I love our pediatrician too, she loves our cloth and encourages my extended breastfeeding of twins. :D Of course I sought out the most hippie-dippy doc in the practice, we're a good match.

Our ped (who's since left) never put the dipe on tight enough either. And they were sposies. Now we see a different one, but I'm thinking about finding anouther practice. I don't care for the other men there & think our son should have a guy Dr unless he says otherwise. ;)

question for you guys. Someone got my semi custom slot with the peppermint patty licorice twist. It was for shorties/capris. She wants a medium with a 9" inseam. Doesn't that seem more like longies? Angela, I may need more of this yarn if you can do it. :yikes:

my WIP. I couldnt wait to start on the skirt part so I stopped about an inch down past the waist band (a couple more inches to the short rows) and started the skirt, I really wanted to see what my verrigated would look like. I am in love so far! I am so excited for these woolies, I cant wait for her to wear it for her birthday party next sat... I dont think I will finish in time to lanolize it though will it be ok?
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc270/icanonlyimaginehim/bnch%20o%20pics/021209_7179.jpg
Hey, you! I Love it!!! I think it will be fine to wear without lanolizing a few times, I would just check her diaper more often. It sometimes takes a while for me to get around to lanolizing woolies after I finish them for my dd. I guess that might be one of the great things about crochet and working with really absorbent yarn to start with, it's not totally necessary to lanolize at first!
Oh, and on the skirty part itself, if you want to make it a little more airy or lighterweight, you can use a HDC, DC, or even TC instead of SC. And it will go faster too that way.;) And I know Rebekah does a DC (or whatever stitch she is using) and then a chain stitch, then the next DC and a chain stitch. I'll have to ask her again if she skips a stitch in between when she does that, it's been a while since she explained it to me. There are so many different ways to do it, you'll figure out what you like after experimenting a few times.
Speaking of experimenting, has anyone ever tried to do a shell edging on the bottom of a ruffle? I've had this idea in my head for a while now, but haven't tried it out yet. Maybe I should name my store 101 Ways to Ruffle your Woolies...:giggle:
So cloudy here. Now I know what the PNW mamas go through trying to get good pics, LOL.
Those are REALLY nice! LOL about the cloudiness, but at least we're getting the rain we need, huh?

Ok mamas I need your help. A customer asked me to fix these for her, she doesn't know what happened, but I have never dealt with this before, so how can I fix them???
Okay a quick and dirty catch up from me, I got Viv down for a late nap so Lilley can make her Valentines cards without little hands helping (foam bookmarks with heart stickers on them -- she is SOOOOO proud of them).
The monkey longies look awesome! You did a great job.
My girls really only watch PBS shows, I was letting Lilley watch some Nick shows but she started calling people "boobs" from Josh and Drake so now just PBS and probably a lot more then they should (2-3 hours of actual watching). I usually leave the TV on though as I don't like it quiet in the house, and it is usually tuned to Food Network or HGTV when it is not kid tv time with the volume down pretty low.
All of the yummy yarn is killing me I've been on a yarn diet waiting for some of my co-ops to open some buys.
I also decided that I am going to start saving up my profits from knitting to buy one of the smaller CSA spots in from our local organic farm it is $200 but you get at least $10 worth of stuff every week from June to October (22 weeks). We plant a pretty big garden but it will be nice to get some new and different things each week to try (we get stuck in a summer veggie rut). DH is being a PITA about it and thinks it is too much money so I'm going to knit for our CSA slot and show him :neener:
