"Butt hat"--that's cute! I love the things kids come up with. They can usually describe things better than I could. When I helped my dd down a slide the other day at the park, I shocked her a bit and she said "Mommy, I just sparkled!"

I got a TIAN that I am going to try with DD...DH might die if he knew how much it cost...still beats the $45/50 it costs to have both kids in sposies at night....in 2 months it would make up for the cost of 2 TIAN (I need to gather another if this one works).
Valentines plans...dunno?

Morning ladies. Kiddos are at school today for thier v-day parties. SO, mommy has the house to herself for once. That never happens. Usually I am at work when they are at school. So, I am going to do some power cleaning and then go shopping sans kiddos :)
I didn't get anything last night. The PP well is dry :( Trying to decide which diapers to sell..I really don't need all these different types. I will see
Okay, off to start cleaning. Will check in here and there..I know you will miss me :giggle:

Shannon, yay to feeling better! We just finished our nighttime stash (though not BSRBs), and it is so nice to not have to worry about buying or running out of disposables for that. Awww, poor X. :( I do hope you figure out what's making his tummy so unhappy.
People have been genetically engineering foods (plants *and* animals) for years through selective breeding/pollination. I don't see genetically engineering them through gene manipulation to be that much different. It's still an apple, or a fish. Think of it this way... if you GE a vegetable so it resistant to a certain disease, that means less chemicals are being dumped on it to prevent it from getting that disease (and those chemicals aren't becoming part of the soil, and water table, and you're not consuming them), then which is worse? There are upsides and downsides of everything, i worry more that these people who are growing GE crops are suing adjacent farmers when their plants cross-pollinate and they don't have a 'license' to grow the GE product... that's freakin' ridiculous if you ask me.
D was up all night nursing and crying... i don't know what his problem was but it was not a happy night. But apparently he managed to sleep well through it all and was the happiest little guy this morning. Don't ask me why. I know *I'M* not that happy.

Maya--aww..so fun about DDs dance tonight!!
I was just reading about the food thing in one of my yoga magazines. I sat down and thought about it for a bit and it did kind of weird me out a bit. I know what you mean. I can't afford to buy organic all the time, but I do when I can. I love the summer because there are a lot of local farms that set up stands around here so I can really buy fresh produce.

Oh, and I did see your post about the cerise pants. I had seen them already, M/L would be way too long for C. I can't believe she hasn't sold them yet, though. You and Megan are correct--I'm really after shorts or covers.

So...I don't know if it's a Friday the 13th thing or what, but C was up at 5:30am! I tried to pat her back to go back to sleep, which usually does the trick. Nope, she was ready to go. So, we came downstairs and I gave her some breakfast. I finally got her to lay down in our bed at 7:15 and then we all slept until 8:30, which made DH late for work and miss his ride in. :giggle:
He called his dad to drive him in....reminded me of missing the bus in high school and then my parents would be annoyed they would have to drive.
Well, C is on breakfast #2, so I'd better get going so perhaps we can head out somewhere today.

Talk to any farmer, any animal you see is the result of years of careful, selective breeding and cross-breeding to enhance desirable traits. Read "Fast Food Nation" sometime, it'll scare the poo outta ya.

Starla--those shorties are definitely not girly. If anything, they are more on the GN side of boyish. However, you may not want to take my opinion considering the boy set that's in my avi on my little girl. :giggle:
I can't believe there are shorties sitting in that Fuffles cart. Gorgeous!!!

Yeah, I think it is a Friday the 13th thing. Both of my kids were up and screaming in their rooms at 7am, where they usually sleep until 8:30. I was kind of bummed about that :)
what site are we talking about??? I wanna look :)
I wish I hadn't looked :giggle:
Its amazing to me how fast instock Woollybottoms sell out, but they just sit on FSOT. :foottap:
Its a fun filled day of cleaning for me!
I love the idea of woollybottoms but I don't think footies are very practical. I would love a pair for both kids to wear overnight but that would be the only time I'd reach for them, so I haven't spent the money. SS your stuff is just sitting!
Ok . . . Juliana is now napping so I have some time :giggle: I don't know what her deal has been lately, but she's not been the happiest baby in the world. She's also doing mean to Howie more, so I'm starting to have to discipline her :(

Ive never been to the circus; I've only ever heard bad things about the way they treat the animals. :dunno:
When does Joyce usually relist them? I always get the emails hours after..and they're all gone!
They seemed like they were treated pretty well from what I saw. They were all soooo well trained. That always amazes me. I think the last 2 weeks she has done relists on Monday.

LOL, I always think sposies stink way worse in the morning than cloth. Do you have hard water? Have you tried stripping? Because i noticed when ours get stinky giving them a dose of calgon clears it up for a little while.
I don't think it's anything with our water, I'm probably just used to the sposie smell in the morning. I remember back in the beginning I haaaated the smell of sposies. I could smell it instantly every time she had a drop of pee or poop, but now it doesn't bother me nearly as much. I should give cloth a try at night again, but I don't know if I have anything night-worthy.
I'm just dying for those marble shorties... i don't need wool... i don't need wool... do you guys think they're too girlie? Or would they work for my adorable little boy? http://hyenacart.com/fuffles/index.php?c=0&p=83999
I think the shorties are boyish/gn, so you should go for them :)

I guess I'm exceedingly practical... think of it this way. Late cold front comes through and kills a tomato crop. Shortage causes prices to skyrocket in the grocery stores. Farmers need gov't help to stay afloat because they've lost their crop. In the end, everyone pays. But you GE the tomatoes so they don't freeze, and while the cost goes up slightly (because of the GE cost), you don't have all the effects rippling through the economy because of a late freeze. You'd eat the fish on it's own, right? So what's wrong with putting some of the fish's genetic code in a tomato? Yeah, it weirds people out (fishmatos?) but i can't imagine what harmful effects could possibly come out of something like that when we've already done so much to cover ourselves in chemicals. Now, if it impacts the flavor of the end product or gives it scales, then I'd be a bit weirded out (FISHMATO? :yuck: ) but otherwise... **shrug** I suppose it's all where your priorities are. If it bugs you you can grow your own or buy from a non-GEI source, same with organic produce. If there's a market for it, it'll be available.

They don't have to tell you they've done it, but a lot of companies *will* advertise that they don't use GEI (there are quite a few i see at whole foods that advertise it openly). So you can look for the ones that explicitly state no GEI, or take your chances. I do wish there was better labeling, and that companies weren't suing places that do label that they don't use GEI. The FDA is f**king useless, in my humble opinion, and the free market needs to demand change before anything will be done. Again, read Fast Food Nation, it will blow your mind.
QOTD: Hm, Rob isn't terribly romantic. When he does *anything* for me I'm surprised. :) Last year he took me out for sushi and a massage... at 36 weeks pregnant it was a nice thing to have. This year? He comes home yesterday and tells me he was looking at the cards at kroger and decided he didn't want to perpetuate this useless, consumerist holiday... i laughed at him and asked him when he's *ever* gotten me a valentines day card, and he was like... hmm... good point. I was like, look, all i want is lunch at Brio on sunday and to raid Godiva for post-V-day chocolate, and he was cool with that. :)

Hm, I'd do red on the sunset and blue on the guinevere. I don't think you have to get the same type of yarn for trim but you do have to account for the different weight and how they will knit up differently on the same needles.

Sorry so many of you had a rough night! How's this for a Friday the 13th--we are actually doing a FET (frozen embryo transfer/ivf cycle) today. I think the Friday the 13th thing would bother me, except that this is our 5th IVF and none of the previous ones have worked. We were even given a 97% chance of success among the first 3 cycles. The 2 kids we have were complete surprises, since we have also been told that it would take a miracle for us to conceive without the assistance of an RE. We figure our luck must work opposite of everyone else's, so maybe today will bring us good luck. Only one friend and a couple family members know about it though, so don't go telling anyone!

Oh, and I'm not anti-sposies, either. I hope I didn't offend, either. :hide:
Amy---those sets are just too cute. Itty bitties in giraffes. Cute, cute!!!
Kellie--I'm not too great on trim colors, either. I tend to go for the color which is least expressed in the colorway, but that's just me. Oh, and for me...I would go with Cestari for the trim, only because I  Cestari and I would want the waistband to be that yarn. Again, just me and my ol' opinion.
So...we went out and I thought for sure C would fall asleep in the car while I did all the drive-through errands. Nope. Wide-awake and happy to check everything out. :headscratch: I know I'm tired from her getting up early! Going back to sleep for an hour still didn't cut it.

Yeah, I know. :( If I had money to throw around, I would actually get black, but I really really want cerise, so I'm going to hold off. From what I hear, she may be stocking cerise as soon as next week.

Do you have Harris Teeter in WV? Great produce there, and organic too!

Mamas... i need some help please!
X woke up with a red bum today, like i said, but it is so bad he cried when he woke up (he is usually super-happy in the morning) and cried through the diaper change (but he usually fusses at DC's so i kind of ignored it ) then continued to cry downstairs and even when i sat him in his highchair for breakfast!
Then it dawned on me: his butt hurts, so he does not even want to sit on it  So, i have fed him standing up all day long, kind of fly-by snacking. Lately, I have been using sposie wipes with aloe :hide: but i knew that would irritate him, so i switched to my cloth wipes with just water for changes, and i gave him a bath with no soap, i tried grandma el's diaper rash ointment but it stung him so he cried harder. Balmex seems to cool his bum off, but it's not healing the rash. Any home remedies or other things i can do to ease his pain? it's making me  right now, to see my baby in so much pain! i have been keeping him on tylenol too, which seems to just numb the pain enough for naptime.

Try an oatmeal bath, it'll help take the sting out of what's bugging him (just throw some oatmeal in the baby tub, or use a bit of cheesecloth to make a pouch for it). What's in the diaper rash cream? Some babies are sensitive to natural ingredients like aloe and lanolin, you never know what could be setting him off. D is sensitive to grapefruit seed extract -- found that out the hard way! Method makes a good hypoallergenic diaper rash cream that is safe for cloth, see if you can slather the heck out of him with it and see how he goes through a few changes. Odds are he's not sensitive to anything in particular, it's just that with his bad poops lately his tush is overreacting to something in the ingredient list and it hurts.
Also, see if you can find some florastor or florastor kids... that stuff WORKED for D when he was on antibiotics the last time. He still had runny poops, but they were more like runny breastfed poops and not the vile green poops he got on antibiotics the last time. It's a bit expensive but man, when it works, you'll pay anything for them to feel better. We were both crying through D's diaper changes the one time he was on antibiotics and it made him so raw... i've never felt more horrible in my life. The johnson and johnson triple cream helped clear him up and protect his skin but it's not cloth safe... i'd put him in sposies or use liners you don't mind throwing away if you want to use that, but it seriously helped D more than anything else we tried on him when the rash was bad.

Awwww, :hugs: to you and X, Sara. I'm so sorry about his little bum. :( I don't have any tips for you (sounds like you're doing great with just water to not to further irritate) but I hope someone can advise you on what may help clear up the rash. I'm sure it's heartbreaking for you to see him in pain.
Have there been any improvements with his tummy today?
P.S.--got the ergo. Thanks!

Thank you starla. I am so fogged in my head today, i can't believe i did not think of oatmeal in the bath!! thank you for bringing that up. We are going to Target when he wakes, and maybe i can find some Method diaper rash cream. You say it's cloth safe, eh??? That would be nice. I put him in a leftover sposie earlier with the balmex, but in the end decided to use my fleece liners because i could care less if they get stained, and they are supposed to repel, so i don't see a way to "ruin" them. I could be wrong, but it's a gamble i am willing to take because i think his bum needs to "breathe" right now, not just be slathered in paste and plastic on top of it. I don't know what florastor is but man, it sounds like it would do some good for this poop he has going on, esp since the ped thinks it may last up to three weeks! :gah:
I am going to try as many of your ideas as possible :bighug:

Di, thanks for the :hugs:
His tummy is obviously not doing too well, but he never complains. He has been pooping non-stop yellow liquids for over a week now  But it did not bother him at all until the rash came. I think he sat in some :yuck: poop all night. He has not pooped in the middle of the night since 3 mos old, so i thought we were done with this!!
I am so glad you got the Ergo. I hope it's not too fuzzy for you  I left it out to pack it the night before, and kitty curled up and slept next to it :giggle:

Florastor is a powder, it's a yeast probiotic vs. a bacteria probiotic (like acidophilus... so it's not affected by antibiotics)... the kid form comes in packets and you dump it in their milk or formula or food and mix it in (or mix with a little water and give that way), the pills we just opened up (they're easy to pull apart) and mixed the same way. Our ped was so awesome, she gave us like a 7 day supply for free which almost got us through his antibiotics. You may have a hard time finding it, we had to ask a few different pharmacies. You can also try baby jarrodophilus (it has some different probiotics and some prebiotics), i get it at whole foods with the refrigerated stuff in the vitamin section, but i don't know where else might have it... it's a powder in a plastic jar and you add it to their food much the same way. But the florastor REALLY made a huge difference for D when he was on antibiotics and i was very impressed with it. You can even just get acidophilus pills and break them open and mix the powder with his food if you want to give something inexpensive and easy a shot and can't find the other stuff. If he's got diarrhea probiotics could REALLY make a difference.
Target should have the method cream, if they don't i've seen it at kroger and publix before. It's in a pump bottle and has marshmallow in it. I don't know how much that helps but it's really fluffy and nice. :) No petroleum jelly/petrolatum in it so i've had no problems using it with cloth and it doesn't stain. I feel you pain on the butt rash! I was just beside myself when D had it so bad, i had no idea what to do to make him happy so i was trying everything i could think of. OOOhh, i just remembered another thing, the ped said to try using liquid maalox (use a cotton ball and dab it on) on the rash, it'll neutralize the acid and help them keep from getting 'burned' by the bad poo. I'd give that a shot too. :) It might be hard to get off but if it works, it works! :) Good luck!

:yay: Thank you Starla! you have been soooo helpful, you have no idea!! I'll try just about anything right now. My grocery store has a wonderful selection of organic foods/remedies/etc, so i will check for probiotics when i go. For now, I am going to give maalox and Method cream a shot!

Its REALLY gentle stuff! and Toxin Free! We use Burts Bees too but the butt cream isn't diaper safe! Although we do have it when we need something a lil stonger! DD has diaper rash sometimes too and when I brought it up at our 9 month appointment our pedi recommended Boudreaux's Butt Paste as the best thing for rashes. It's not sposie safe, but you might try it if none of the other stuff works.

Goodness, I have a LOT of catching up to do. I have been busy listing some wool and I even bought another soaker (L Black) this morning. That way I will have 2 to rotate for night time use.
I am going through a decluttering phase (ie. my wool and TFs). It is just impractical for me to keep wool we don't use yet. I like the shorties I listed but John doesn't. I normally don't care but I have a lot of upcoming customs. Basically, I want to keep shopping but don't necessarily want more (in quantity) cd'ing stash. KWIM

April: I am keeping Juliana in my thoughts and prayers. Just a curious question (because of something I have been reading) did she just get her shots recently? I hope everything is ok and you guys can come home soon. I've always hated having little babies in the hospital :( :hugs:
Annie: I'm praying for Addie too. I hope we hear an update soon :hugs:
Sara: Poor X. I second what everyone else said to try. You can also cut up some cheap fleece blankets and use those as liners to just chunck when you are done. I think the cloth might be more comfy for him. Poor guy can't sit :(
Hi everyone else!! I'm trying to do this on memory and not doing too well
On the babylegs, I wash and dry them and don't see a diff
And I LOVE Whole Foods! Our HEB has a "Vintage Market" and has tons of organic food. We have decided to get as much organic and additive free food as possible. I try to make as much from scratch as I can. We've decided to sacrifice some things and re-prioritize our budget to where groceries were more important. I used to just get the most I could for our money. But we found that we may spend a bit more now, but we changed the portion sizes of our meals and it evens out now. I've learned to get creative :)
It's so rainy and yucky today :( I think DH, the kids and I are going to enjoy dinner out tonight. Tomorrow we're going to drive up to SFAU to see my sister. She's had a rough week of early clinicals and is tired and lonely.

To the SBish wool seekers, Erin posted on Twitter " cerise & lila covers arrived too"
Dunno if you are looking for cerise covers or just shorts. But I'm assuming she'll stock these soon.

April--thanks for the update. :bighug: Hope all turns out ok tonight, mama.
Annie--still thinking of you and Addie. :hugs:

Cass, i don't know what shots Juliana had recently but she was diagnosed with RSV a couple days ago and has been on breathing treatments. I guess it got worse instead of better.
Traffic is insane today. I'm glad i don't have anywhere to go.

Starla--I've been to Atlanta a few times...love it there, but could never deal with the traffic getting in/out of downtown. That's some of the craziest traffic I've ever seen.

John sent me this immediately. http://www.fearlessflight.com/ I know the statistics are in our favor but it does happen. He says driving is more dangerous but I am also afraid of driving. I know I have issues.
:hugs: I'm really scared to drive or ride with someone too. I panic when I ride with other people sometimes
I'm sending big PPT to Annie and April that Addie and Juliana are in and out of the hospital in no time :hugs: I'm so sorry :hugs:
Did I miss something? I didn't know Addie was in the hospital. That she is ok and home soon!
Quick update. We came to the hospital because Juliana was having episodes where she was fighting to breathe. Her oxygen level was low also. She's not on oxygen yet. We're staying in the hospital overnight for observation.
Poor baby. Hope she feels better and gets home soon!

Any luck with X's bum yet, Sara? Did the maalox help?
D is winding down for bed, hopefully we have a better night than last night. He keeps doing this weird breathing thing that i know he's just messing around with ('Look, i can make a cool noise!') but it still freaks me out when he does it. And I am staying away from the sbish site, especially after taking the plunge today with some knit shorties.

I went to target for method rash cream, maalox, probiotics, a valentine for DH and a pair of jeans. He screamed bloody murder when i put it on him  and i felt sooooooo bad, but i could not put him to bed without some barrier in there, right?? Anyway, DH is coming home late tonight and he said he will stop at the 24 hr grocery and get some stuff. I just hope he's a little better in the morning. LOL, all of us with March babies have them making the funny breathing noise. I swear, it's like they hit an age where they find something neat and just keep repeating it... he used to make it randomly before but now it's a sport. My sister's baby went through a phase where she was gulping and swallowing air a lot, at least he's not doing that yet. :)
I've had that happen where i went through the checkout and either missed some of my stuff or ended up with someone else's... it's usually because the checker messed up and grabbed (or didn't grab) something they weren't supposed to. One time we ended up with a huge jar of mustard. It was like, WTF? How are we going to use all this mustard? We were too lazy to take it back. Some huge family must have been missing all that mustard though.

You know who actually started my whole SBish gears rolling is Ashley. She mentioned how it would be nice to not have to worry about knits getting wrecked. Then, I got to thinking how impractical it might be for a rough boy. Plus, we don't wear wool out of the house, just BGOS under "IRL" clothes. I thought maybe I'd let B wear the SBish out of the house. I am on a streamlining kick. I just want to simplify. I am little overwhelmed thinking about my upcoming customs.

For the knittin' mamas out there! Im ordering some yarn in a coop and Im wondering how much I'd need for a large soaker, and a medium pair of shorts.
The yarn Im getting comes in 4oz skeins (280 yards). If I get one skein of yarn and then one skeins of trim (2 oz) would that be enough to do a large soaker? And the same for the medium shorts, would 280 yards of colorway plus 2oz of trim be enough?
Ugh, I am no good at this whole yarn thing!!

But on the flip side, I'm cheap when it comes to DD's clothes - she only gets a few months wear out of stuff so far, so I can't see spending much money on them. SBish wool is probably never going to fly here, so I'll just :drif: over the stuff you guys get!

I am just not a name-brand person, i guess. DS's clothes are cheap too. I buy lots at Target and on-sale anywhere else
I think if i were not struggling with my weight constantly, i would invest in better clothes. But what fits me now will probably not fit me next year, hopefully anyway :giggle: I am also an awkward body shape to fit, so it's hard to find the right clothes.

90% of what I buy is clearance or outlet for all of us.

Megan--you're right..I remember that conversation Ashley was having about knit vs. interlock. Let's blame Ashley. :giggle: We  you if you're around here lurking, Ashley!
Uhh...I dont know. Ive always hear people say they use a diaper sprayer if they had a pail. :dunno:
For the knittin' mamas out there! Im ordering some yarn in a coop and Im wondering how much I'd need for a large soaker, and a medium pair of shorts.
The yarn Im getting comes in 4oz skeins (280 yards). If I get one skein of yarn and then one skeins of trim (2 oz) would that be enough to do a large soaker? And the same for the medium shorts, would 280 yards of colorway plus 2oz of trim be enough?
Ugh, I am no good at this whole yarn thing!!
Bookmark this (http://www.diaperswappers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=129834) page. I refer to it all of the time. :) It's quite helpful and should clear things up for you. As Megan said, some yarns go farther yardage-wise than others. Anything that says 'bulky' isn't going to get as much yardage.
Di,
to tell you the truth, i would normally not spend $20 on jeans either :giggle: but now since having X, i can't fit into Old Navy jeans anymore :headscratch: so I had to break down and spend $40 on jeans today  I am a cheapskate
I am a cheapskate with jeans, too. I think I've conditioned myself to hate jeans. I find a brand that fits me (I'm a weird size) and then I'll go back out and by 4 more pair and be done with it. So, right now it's Kohl's cheap-o jeans that fit me.

I don't spend a lot of money on C's IRL clothes. (all cd-ing wool/fleece is a different story, but she gets SO much wear out of all CD pants.) It's funny, I have a ton of outfits for her that my SIL bought, and she's never worn the pants to them. I could list about 20 pair of pants NWT on FSOT right now, but I want to keep the matching shirts. :giggle:

Sara--I can actually say that I like Target's baby/kid clothes. That's where I've found many of C's shirts/sweaters/dresses. Their stuff is so cute, IMO. When she was first born, I was shopping at Gymbo all of the time. However, when I was packing up clothes from her early months, I realized that she may have only worn those pricey clothes once or twice.
Off to Target I went. :)
I have also found that for me...since I never go out anywhere, I wear pretty much the same outfits every day of the week. It's just one rotation of 7 outfits. The only time I'm in something other than jeans or a shirt/sweater is at yoga class. So, why spend $$ on clothes when I don't go anywhere? DH wants me to get dressed up to stay at home. Not happening.
