My dd will be one next week (already!), and I've been starting to think about weaning. We've been down to about 3 feedings a day. Then all of a sudden she wants to nurse again in the middle of the night. I think she's waking up because she's got 5 new choppers coming in (2 are molars!) and she wants comfort. I nurse her, and she goes back to sleep. I'm just wondering, tho, if the weaning process is going to be undone by teething. I don't mind going on a bit longer than 12 months, but I wasn't planning on much more. Any tips? I've heard about the teething necklaces. Of course, she may just want some middle of the night hugs. I wish she could tell me! Help. I'm stumped!

teething shouldn't hinder it. It didnt have an effect w/ my ds at least.

Teething has always made ds nurse more. I try singing/rocking/cuddling first but all he really wants is to nurse. Then once the teeth come in it is back to once a night. So I guess it will depend on your LO.

I think you're totally right. Now that dd's teeth have come on through, she's nursing back at 3 times per day. She's just getting over a cold, too. So, new teeth plus congested nose means a baby that needs some extra tlc.

Thanks for your input.

Mine also nurse more often when teething--although, its always something, huh? I'm thinking about weaning and i keep thinking of all these little things that will get in our way..

I've been weaning (very slowly for the past 4 months) my 18 month old and teething is definitely something that makes weaning more difficult. I won't push weaning of a new nursing session when he's teething, but I don't revert back to nursing on demand either...just lots of cuddles and hugs. We're down to one session a day.
