So on my lunch break I was surfing FSOT (shhh...so not allowed) and caught a great deal on an item. I pm'ed saying I wanted it. I later saw that she sent me an e-mail with her paypal account info so I thought "great! I'll pay when I get home!" When I got home, though, there was an e-mail that said someone else bought it. What? :headscratch: I looked through the listing and her first pm because I know some people put a time limit on how long they'll wait for payment, but there was none specified. So I'm kind of peeved about it all. Granted, I didn't write her back saying I have to wait until I get home to send the payment, but I didn't think in a couple hours she'd sell it to someone else since she'd already sent me her pp info. I don't know. I'm just bummed. And today really sucked too, so it was a bright point for me to get through all the yuckiness. Oh, well.

Oh wow.. I would NEVER accept money for an item if someone already has PP info for it. She should have messaged you first or specified a time limit. If someone asks me about an item that is pending, I always say I'll message them if it falls through - & then just go back through if it does. Ugh, how lame. I'm SS mama!

Its probably because so many people don't follow through but don't let them know, so she assumed you were one of them since you opened the message with the PP info but didnt pay right away.
Just my guess

I figured this too, but whenever I've been the seller I've let someone know "hey, if I don't hear from you by this set time, I'm going to go to the next person in line" just to give them a chance. Just courtesy, I guess, even if people aren't always courteous back.

:yeahthat:
I understand that people want to sell their stuff (been there myself), but I don't see why common courtesy is so hard for some people. If I was concerned about why someone hadn't paid (in a couple of hours, gee, how could you :lostit: ), I would simply write that person to inquire and maybe say that someone is interested, yada yada, and that I need to hear back by that night...you get the picture. I have had things sold from under me before and it is so depressing...especially when you have been searching forever and finally find just the right thing, just to have it unfairly snatched away!!
Okay, , sorry! I'm sorry for your disappointment. I hope your tomorrow is better!!

Ditto. I could understand if someone inquired about the item and not already asked for PP info... but that's absurd IMO!

I totally agree, I wasnt saying that the seller was right in not messaging you before selling to someone else, but I also think you should have PMed her letting her know you wouldnt be paying till later, my guess is that it wouldnt have been an issue had you not opened the message she sent kwim?
I think this is a case of too much communication would have been better than too little!

So sorry this happened mama. I can see her point, but since she didn't set a time limit (unless I missed that she did), that's just wrong. I think it should be reasonable to give someone until the end of the day to pay, esp. if they bought early. We can't all sit on our computers all day... ;) You could always keep someone on a waiting list in case the original buyer falls through.

Lesson learned. Next time you'll PM her saying "I'll pay as soon as I get home at XYZ time!"

I've had a lot of people just say "I want" and then never pay, so I "get" it. But I usually give 24 hrs. Maybe next time if you know you wont be able to pay til later you should say "I want this, i can't paypal until I get home. I'll send paypal by 6pm" That way they know you are serious.

I see both sides. As a seller lately TONS of buyers back out or disappear with no word, so I understand wanting to sell to someone who will pay ASAP. But as a buyer I would be bummed, too, since I know sometimes it has taken me a few hours to pay (although I don't ever read a PM with paypal info and then not pay immediately, usually I just am at work or whatever and not aroudn to check my PMs at all). It's totally possible that she saw that you read her PM and then hadn't paid by 4+ hours later and decided to sell to the next person in line. Although, as the seller, I would have PMd you first giving you a time limit to pay before moving to the next person in line...
Sorry for your bad day :(

i usually hold for mamas too if they have asked for my pp addy. I have 2 kids under 2 and i know how hard it is to try and stay on the computer until they pm me back. Ido think tho from now on you should say, i can pay you by x time that way they know, thats what i usually do if know i cant pay right away. I do think its unfair sometimes when ppl say you need to pay within like an hr of recieving pp addy bc sometimes im buying from someone on the west coast maybe and they might send me their pp at like midnight and im like HELLO its 4am here, im obviously not online lol, ya know? SS this happened mama!

It sucks that you lost it, but there is no rule(and rightly so) on how long someone has to wait.
If someone comes into my store and says oh I'm so interested in this" and we figure out price, etc. and they leave. I'm not going to ignore the person who wants to buy it an hour later. ya know?

Sigh, yeah, I understand. I'm not *supposed* to be on the internet at work, so I was just covertly checking to see if I'd actually got the item, which is why I didn't take the time to reply. I hate work. It interferes with my buying.

This is a pain, but somewaht avoidable on the sellers end. I f I have a serious buyer, asking for my PP addy, I will remove the spots listing BEFORE I send out my PP addy. I HATE listing things on spots when it is listed here too, but sometimes you have to, and that is the risk we, as sellers, take.

definitely not appropriate. If you have in a sense, accepted the persons offer, then you have to give the person some time to pay. I have messaged the second interested person before and said I am waiting on someone and will get back to them the next day with yea or nay, and then messaged the person who wanted it if I don't hear from them in 12+ hours. But I would never just sell it without communicating... How rude.
Sorry you had to deal with that.

Oh that sux and I'm sorry you had a craptastic day :hugs: I will also remove items from Spots while discussing trades/purchases on here, and wait at at least untill after supper unless I specify in the listing (which I never do b/c I'm way to slack to really car :dunno: lol)...
Some people just want the quick sale they have nothing for the community that makes this website so special...

ITA. I would just let the buyer know in the future the approx. time you will be paying - for all you know she assumed you flaked. Several times I have given out my PP addy only to never have any communication from the other mama again and have to relist. :hugs:
