Ds is 29 mo. We had a rough start to our nursing relationship and things were not really smooth until he was about 8 mo or so. Now he is a champ.
MY goal was 2 years and I was so proud to make it that far. Recently though I have not been happy with ds nursing. Sometimes it is painful (sore nipples, he pulls, tugs or pinches) He asks alot and I rarley tell him no although I do offer snacks, drinks or other activities. Several weeks ago he gave up the binky, just stopped asking for it. It was so nice, he was ready, it was his choice.
I am just so afraid of a tramatic end to our nursing relationship that I tend to give in. Sometimes I just NEED him to stop touching/grabbing me, KWIM?

I guess I just need to know if there is a gentle loving way to wean him. Even if it is only partially.

Definatley start slow. Be gradaul about it. Make a goal for weaning. Start with x amount of nursings a day and slowly take one away. This is the best transition for most moms and babies.

Update, so I decided sunday would be our official "start date." I have been getting up before him so that I can have something ready for him to eat/drink. That has been holding him off from the waking up session. Then we have been playing running, being super busy. Lots of snacks, drinks. Both sunday and today ds only nursed 3 times. He asked a few more times but I was always able to gently hold him off without too much trouble.
Yesterday his first nursing of the day was at 11 and today was at 3ish. We were at the zoo so too much too do to bother nursing;)
