i am on steroids and trying to lose a little weight without gaining a ton. They said that it would be better for me to eat more little meals. I don't understand how much i am suppose to eat at one time. Would it be like making a sandwich at lunch and eating half of it and waiting intill later to eat the rest.
So one please help and give me different ideas for different meals. Thank you so much

Back again. You gonna be sick of me.

I eat 5-6 small meals all day all the time. I am hypoglycemic so I just do better eating smaller and more frequent to avoid insulin dumps.

I don't eat first thing though, must have a little coffee for a few hours first.
When I start to eat I might have a pc. of cheese and a pc. of toast for morning. Followed later by some yogurt and maybe a little later a banana or cantalope, a sandwich, and in the afternoon I will look for snacks, animal crackers, raisans, pretzels, corn tortilla chips, stuff like that. and I eat dinner but I usually don't eat excessive unless pregnant which then I could eat more than most guys. I just sort of graze all day. It stimulates the metabolizm and steps it up eating more often and smaller and can increase your energy. So pick simple foods, ones that have no packaging are usually the best.:lostit:
If you get hungry you can always load up on as much raw veggies - minus the dip and doubt you could gain an ounce.

Good luck.

A good serving suggestion is about the size of your palm for each item. You still want to have about 1/2 of your meals be bigger than the other 1/2. I personally aim for 1 protien and one carb per meal, like an apple with cheese or chicken and veggies. I hope that helps! I do nutrition counseling if you ever want any specific advice.

A typical day for me includes 5-6 meals.

Breakfast: 1 cup cereal, 1/2 cup skim milk, 1 banana
Morning snack: 1 apple or 2 stalks of celery (cut in strips) with 1 Tbsp Natural peanut butter
Lunch: 2 cups salad greens, chopped cucumber, tomato, celery, 2 Tbsp fat free or light dressing, 10 large baby carrots (or a wrap and baby carrots)
Afternoon snack: 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt with fruit
Dinner: turkey or chicken (3 oz), 2 servings veggies
(Optional) Dessert: frozen grapes or a Skinny Cow low fat ice cream sandwich

The first couple days take some adjustment. I was hungry even though I was eating all day. But then my appetite adjusted to the new schedule and it works well for me. I never get sooooo hungry that I feel like bingeing, and I know it's keeping my blood sugar levels even.

Good luck!

I would recommend pre-making some things and putting them in Tupperware type dishes. Things like wraps w/ deli meat and cheese keep well for a couple days. I made a dip with cottage cheese that I eat with bell peppers, mini-carrots and cuccumber that lasts a few days as well. String cheese is a good snack and you can just eat one stick. Also putting items like pretzels, Fig Newtons or bulk trail mix in smaller baggies. The 100 calorie or lunch size snack bags by Nabisco are nice too. Good luck!!

This is an excellent diet and with a proper mix of what is needed and I am glad it works so well for you - but I would starve with such tiny portions. I need alot of food some days.

The only problem is I tend to fall short on fiber because I'm not getting much grains in, unless I go for a sandwich at lunch. But when you eat fruit and veggies all day it does really fill you up. I have my high days occasionally, too, but most days are just like above. My calorie range recommended by the website I'm using to lose weight and be healthier, SparkPeople, is 1280-1630 calories per day. Rarely do I fall above or below that.
