My cousins little girl is going to be 6 and the party is on Sunday. Since I am in 3 year old land over here....I am afraid that I will get something too YOUNG for her.
She is a girly girl. Loves everything girly, frilly, and pretty. She hates getting dirty. Any ideas???

We tend to do art supplies or books. If you think books would do well, try the Fancy Nancy books. They are about a little girl who is very much a girly girl and they are very cute books. If you are thinking more in the lines of toys, I would go with dress-up stuff --- feather boas, costume jewelry, princess type dresses, shoes, etc.

I can't post links yet b/c I'm new here, but there is an etsy.com shop that has the cutest necklaces! The seller name is littlepinkposies. They are doll pendants and there are lots of choices as far as dress and hair color, so you can make the doll look similar to the child. You can even get it personalized with the first initial of the little girl.
I think they are $15 and would be the cutest gift! I'm thinking of getting one for my friend's daughter who has a birthday coming up.

My DD is 7. She was and still is big into Hannah Montana. Loves play makeup, and loves going to the kiddie spa for her nails to be done. When friends were asking what to buy her last year, my comment was always a walmart gift card. She loves to shop and had a great time buying things she really wanted.
It totally depends on what type of money you want to spend. Disney princess is getting a little young for a 6 year old, but I would say you are safe with Hannah, Camp Rock, Hilary Duff, stuff like that. Or if she has a DS maybe a game, or a cd. Katy Perry or (puke) Britany Spears is pretty popular with that age group. My DD still plays with Barbies, and AG, aswell as polly pockets, but it also depends on the child's maturity.
My DD is never impressed when she gets a book, and I am never impressed when she gets art supplies, because of the mess that I know she will make. But I remember a friend telling me when I was buying a gift for her child and the child wanted a can of coke, it isn't my gift to get, just my gift to give, and no matter how odd the gift may seem, it isn't what I think it is what the recipient thinks. It was something that child was never allowed and really wanted to enjoy. It is also a gift that will be remembered. I am not saying you should give her a can of coke, but what has the child said she wants?
We have Fancy Nancy stuff, but my DD finds it "too much for a baby" at 6 she should be starting to read, so the I read you read are a good choice, or other short chapter books, Junie B. Jones is one my daughter will pick up.
Oh and bring earplugs to the party, you'll need them!!!

If she is a girly girl, I would go with a dress up costume or maybe a tutu. I like to give gifts that can help the child be creative in some form versus just entertaining them (like a movie). There are a lot of kit type things for girls her age....make your own necklaces, etc.

OUr niece really liked puppy in your pocket and polly pocket stuff at that age. My 4 yr old really likes fancy nancy and has for a year so I would think 6 might be getting a little old for fancy nancy (depending on the child). I knew a little girl who loved disney princess stuff at that age but I can also see them getting a bit old. Barbies would be a good thing for that age - a lot of 6 year olds like barbies. Board games maybe - my dd (she's only 4 I know) would love to get a board game more than a toy most of the time. My dd's favorite presents are always books but she's a bood worm. She just started loving the Rainbow Magic Fairy books (short chapter book) and she's pretty advanced with books - she usually likes what kids a year or so older than her like. And I ran into another mother who said her 6 and 7 year old girls loved those books too. So I think they'd still be good for a 6 year old.

My dd is 6...
She loves art supplies (maybe get her one of those kids where she makes jewelry) and books. Check the b-day girls reading level. They make the fancy nancy books in readers for all levels. If the b-day girl is reading chapter books (mine is) there are a series about fairies, and princesses and horses that my dd loves.

My six year old daughter is a major boyish girl but she still secretly loves dressing up! Also, most girls this ago like Littlest Pet Shop toys - I like this because they think they are cool and do not have parts to lose or make messes with! yay!
