I have been "going green" in steps to the best of my ability since I found this site 9 months ago. We started with cloth diapers, and then realized (duh! :banghead: ) that other things could be cloth, too! We started with cloth for napkins, paper towels, wipies, no more paper dishes, cups, etc. I just ordered my first mooncup, I can't wait for that! :) Who knew that going green could be fun?
Now I am trying to get rid of other consumables. I want to get rid of sponges/poofies, etc. What do you guys use to wash dishes (I have tried dishrags and the dishes just don't get clean enough for me  ) and for the shower (same thing, I like the poofies, I really don't like washrags). Any suggestions, or do I just have to bite the bullet and use the rags? Thanks!

I think the moon cup is like the Diva cup?

Personally, my hubby is what I use to get clean dishes :) Oh, he uses just a regular washable dishcloth!

We have a big bowl of cloth napkins (in cute kids' flannels) and washable snack bags in the kitchen for making kids' lunches. That got rid of zip-lock bags from our house.

I tried the reusable snack bags, and my daughter kept throwing them away! She is so mindless when it comes to those kind of things. Everyone else throws theirs away... :-)

The mooncup is exactly like the diva cup - same thing, different company. I's an alternative to sanitary pads or tampons.

I consider the shower poof things to be non-consumable. I have had the same one for years. Once in a while I throw it in the washer (but honestly, not that often). For dishes I just use my hands! Anything else seems kind of gross to me. If something doesn't come clean easily, a short soak usually does the trick.

I never thought to throw the showre pouf in the washer! :-) The problem here is that eventually they seem to come apart on me. Maybe it's because I am just buying the cheap kind?

Maybe washing it in a lingerie bag would help. I have noticed that the "looser" poofs seem to need a lot less washing than the "denser" ones. I had a dense one that got gross really quickly, and didn't last through too many washings. My current one (which is very loose) has been going strong for years and rarely needs to get washed. (FYI I wash it when it "needs" it, i.e. smells bad or looks bad.)

I use dishcloths to clean the counters, but for scrubbing dishes, I use one of these:

I can't stand sponges.

What about a natural sea sponge for the shower, I've heard they last about 5 years!

The dishcloths with the mesh one one side work great for dishes. They have them at Target and Wal-mart. Personally I think sponges are gross...who knows what is growing inside.

For difficult stuck on junk on your dishes, you could use one of those scrapers things, Bambu makes bamboo one now. Mine is plastic and came with my pizza stone years ago. I also have a citrus peeler from Tupperware (again, a gift) that I use for hard to reach places like the container tops.

I prefer to let my dishes soak in hot soapy water and they come so clean.

I use dishrags to wash mine, and old hand towels to clean counter surfaces. Someone did just tell me about this, and I'm going to try it out:

Anyone else ever use it?

I love a small kitchen brush for washing my dishes, in combination with dishcloths. The brush works great for things stuck on & pans.

Oh, and the vinyl scrapers from Pampered Chef to use on your stonewear, them! I use them all the time for pans and other dishes!

I have one of those plastic scrapers, that does work well! :-) I broke down and bought some cotton yarn and crocheted up a couple of "scrubbers" for the dishes. I made a smallish square and a circle. I much prefer the circle, although they are both better than a dishcloth! :-) Thanks for the suggestion.
