3D cakes are a lot of work. As an easier suggestion, something like this would be an option: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v111/spaingirl/5-4-08JoshuasThomascake-sm.jpg

Made this for my son's 3rd b-day last year. HUGE hit. But, not all train, so maybe not what you want to do. :)

That is an adorable cake! I might just attempt to make a similar one for my son's upcoming 2nd birthday. Thanks for the idea!

I made this cake for my son's 2nd birthday last week. It isn't "Thomas", but you can decorate it however...If you are interested in how I did it, let me know and I will post what I did.

I made this one for my son in Jan. I took Bath toys from Walmart and use those as the kit. Now he can play with them in the tub.

Thanks for letting me share.

I cheat TOTALLY. and Unfortunately Don't have any pictures

1 large Rectangle Cake (13x9x7 I think)
one Square Cake (8x8 I think)
and CUPCAKES

place the rectangle cake down as your base and Build your Height for the Engine with your Square one. Then add Cupcakes for the Wheels, Chimney stack. Decorate at will

Ebay has quite a few 3d train pans, and you can get them for around 10 bucks each...:)
