I was out with my DH and DD today and while I was nursing DD a red humvee pulls up next to us. I noticed that the mom in the passenger seat was smoking with what looked like a 8 year old DD in the back seat. All the windows were up. This really bothers me to no end. The kid doesn't have any choice in the matter. I PERSONALLY don't think that it's fair to do that to your child(ren). Does this bother anyone else?
OH and then the best part... The mom gets out of the car and she is VERY pregnant! I just about came unglued!!! It's only 40 weeks! 9 months! I could say more but I'm pretty sure I would get in trouble.

Dh and I hate it when we see people smoking with kids in the car, even if the windows are down. I feel so bad for those kiddos.

Of course she can't quit smoking for 9 months while pregnant. She can't even refrain from smoking long enough to not hot box her children in the car. I mean really, pull over, get out of the car and smoke. That's just sick and wrong.

:puke: Poor babies. It even bothers my dd if she smells smoke. She'll loudly announce, "THAT LADY'S CIGARETTES REEKS!!!" :bagoverhead: Children are so honest!

My kids used to do the same thing. My dd thought she was allergic to cig. smoke when she was little. She would say, "I'm allergic to smokerettes" (she called ciggerettes smokerettes) loudly to people who were smoking.

This is so true. And sad.

That's so so sad! One of my best friends quit smoking cold turkey the day she found out she was pg with her DS and hasn't had one since (her DS is 14 months old!)

It's illegal in CA too. My DS always announces (loudly) when he sees anyone smoking that it's NASTY! Kids are honest! And my DD truly is allergic to cigarette smoke. Anytime we are near someone smoking I have to give her a breathing treatment when we get home, otherwise she will almost always have an asthma attack.

I quit smoking for my first two pregnancies and then smoked outside the house and never in the car if the kids were in there. The whole car thing makes me mad too. I chose to smoke, not the kids so I just couldn't smoke around them. I quit completely just over three years ago. :lostit:

Completely illegal here in Ontario, and I believe other parts of Canada as well.

There is legislation trying to be pushed to ban that in my province, it's already banned in over half of them. I can't stand being in the same vehicle as an adult when they're smoking with the windows rolled down, let alone stuck in there with the windows UP! (I would never allow my kids in a vehicle like that, but sometimes I get a ride on my own and have no choice)
As for quitting cold turkey when pregnant, I heard the sudden withdrawal is more stressful on your body than gradually quitting - not something to be encouraged to a pregnant Mama!
