View Full Version : WTH I HATE CHILDPROOFING

My DD is 21 months. She plays with the stupid plug covers. I have bought several different kinds. No matter what she can pull them out and put them back in and play with them. I cannot CANNOT get her to leave them alone. I am ready to just take them all out and put them away.

The only reason I have them is that I want to babysit children in my home. I found one thing that does work and it is expensive. It is a device that you screw into the wall and it covers the entire outlet plus whatever is plugged into the outlet so they can't unplug and plug whatever back in. I might have to buy that since my DD loves to plug and unplug things and I am losing my mind trying to stop her from playing with them. They are $4.99 each and I have TONS of plugs I would have to spend like $50 to $75 to get this one floor covered.

If anyone has a better idea, please let me know. Thanks

AHHHHHHHHHHHH I just needed to vent. Thanks.

I kid you not! Nowhere have I been able to find a plug cover that works for that or something useful that even plugs into it for that matter. It's in the worst place in the living room and DD2 is soooo attracted to it right now.

DD1 just learned to open the fridge by herself and now I'm dealing with finding food everywhere and checking to make sure the door is shut tight so our food stays cold and and the fridge isn't running non stop.

What about the basic covers that are used to just cover up the whole thing? You'd only be able to use them for outlets that you won't be using at all since they screw on, but they are super duper cheap (even here, in the middle of nowhere)!

Any way you could block off rooms or rearrange furniture to cover some plugs?

We LOVE the sliding covers. And for outlets that have plugs in them all the time, such as a lamp cord, we use the ones that cover the whole outlet and the plugged in cord. Not cheap, but if you can be strategic about where you put them, very very helpful.

There are also door locks for refridgerators. Easy to install because they just stick on. Or we've used the kind with the double loopy things on them.

We try to move our furniture to block as many outlets as possible.

If you use the fridge locks that stick on, make sure you tell anyone who comes into your home how to open them! We had one on our fridge and it worked GREAT for keeping DD out. She couldn't reach it even if she could figure it out. But when my parents came to visit we forgot to tell my mom about it and show her how to open it. She just thought our door was stuck and she strong-armed it open! :giggle2: So now the lock is broken (but luckily DD is so used to not being able to open it, she hasn't tried). My DH STILL :roflmbo: :roflmbo: :roflmbo: over the fact that my petite little mom managed to yank the thing off the fridge!

Thank you ladies for posting the links, the sliding kind is the kind I want! I didn't know they were still around.
