Sorry if this is tmi...but I'm a tad bit worried...When Katie was first eating solids at around 11 months (she refused solids till then), her pooped turned to little formed logs that I could just roll off right into the toilet....like adult poop, but smaller.:giggle: She was ebf before that. Anyways, a few months later, she got a virus and had diarrhea from it, and it was really smelly, too...well, the virus went away, and she got better, but her poop still hasn't really gone back to formed logs again, but it's not diarrhea at all, just kinda soft...it's kinda like peanut butter. And it's a little lighter than it was when it was the formed logs. She did have a few constipation issues when we first started solids though...Now, There's pieces of food in it, like peas, carrots, green beans, etc which I know is normal, but is it normal for it to be pasty? She acts fine, and I know it's not related to the virus she had...just including that in the timeline, but I'm kinda mildly worried about it...But I have heard others mention the peanut butter poo, and was just wondering if this were normal. She also started on dairy a little before then, or right around then so I didn't know if dairy could cause that as well? She still nurses 2-5 times a day, too. thanks!

It is possible that her gut hasn't truly recovered from the virus. You could try giving her some probiotics. I'm thinking we're going to have to do that for our youngest right now as she has had every variety of poop possible in the last week or so, but doesn't appear to be sick.

How long has it been since the virus? Gastrointestinal illnesses can throw off the gut balance of good bacteria for quite a while. The good bacteria help digest the food. Have you tried giving her a probiotic, like acidopholus? That can help speed the recovery.

it's been months...like 3 or 4, probably...I don't really think that it's the virus since it's been so long though...:headscratch:

Nothing like Pasty Poop. So pasty you gotta wipe and wipe and wipe to get it off. My Nephews have Pasty Poop quite frequently. When I watched my little Cousins when they were little they also had pasty poop frequently. To me it seems normal so I just clean them up and go on.

It can be completely normal, it can also be a sign of allergies. Since you said it was about the same time as she started on dairy you might ask your Dr. to see an allergist just to make sure because I know dairy allergies can cause softer poop. Some babies and toddlers just have PB textured poop though, so it could be absolutely nothing as well, I would say just ask your pedi about it to be safe, but my guess is most likely it is nothing at all.
My DS goes through phases of pasty poop and poop logs, usually if he has had juice (I only give him juice maybe once ever 1 1/2 or 2 weeks) or if he has nursed more than normal, then sometimes his poop is runnier/more pasty for a day or two because he has had a higher liquid to solids ratio.

Once my little man got used to solids, that's all he has! He eats yogurt at least once a day, there's no change in consistency with alterations in his diet, so I think that's just what he has now that his gut can digest solids properly. He's 14 mo and still nurses 5 times a day, and I think that influences the consistency. His daycare has commented on it several times ("Gee, your kid's poop is soft!") but he's the only one still BF.
I wouldn't worry too much. Although it is a PAIN to wipe. I use 2-3 cloth wipes per change! Yuck!

my DS had harder formed poops at first when he was about 12 months and eating a lot of solids for the first time - he also had trouble with constipation during that time .. after his constipation cleared up he started having pasty poop - but its the kind of poop that if it were in a potty you would never know how soft it was because it would just stay formed and float.. kwim? its being squished in the diaper that makes it pasty looking.. every once in a while i catch it before he sits down and it looks much more 'normal' ..
