My 1 year olds eye has had a lot of yellow goo coming out of it for a couple of days...he just had pink eye in his right. But his left has just had yellow goo coming out of it...but the whites of his eye haven't been pink or red or anything. I figured it might be some sort of infection or allergies or something since he also had a runny nose and a cough. He also has had a temp. (not sure what, just feels hot), but he is getting teeth, so I put those together. Tonight I wiped his eye out with a wash cloth while giving him a bath...and it started bleeding. Blood dribbled down his cheak right after I wiped it and some stayed just in and around his eye. I am really worried about it, and don't want him to go blind or something. I don't know what it is...has anyone had this happen before? Any suggestions? I am taking him to the doc. tom., and I guess should have today. But the yellow goo was all that was going on today and it wasn't too bad, but got worse as the day went on...and by the time it was really bad (bottom of eye is red and swollen under the eye) the doc. office was already closed! Help!
*UPDATE*
So we went to the doc. this morning! Turns out he does have pink eye in his left eye, and periorbital cellulitis...which is an infection under the skin around the eye. She said it's pretty bad from other ones shes seen. The cellulitis is what caused his whole eye to swell (eyelid and under eye) and turn purple, and caused pressure on a blood vessel and made it burst. The pink eye is what caused him to not be able to fight off an infection and caused all the yellow gunk. He follows things with his eye and everything, so it is fine. I am supposed to keep and eye of it for the next week, and make sure he doesn't get a high temp., start to vomit, or seems like hes in extreme pain, or his eye doesn't follow things. The infection could spread behind his eye ball which could cause major issues, but if the strong antibiotic works that she subscribed than it won't spread. So he got a very strong shot of antibiotics in his leg (was just going to write a perscription for an oral antibiotic...but change her mind, because his eye was soo severe and she didn't want to take the chance of it spreading), will take antibiotics orally, and get eye drops every 4 hrs. for his left eye, and I even have to put some drops in his right eye, just to make sure it doesn't get infected either, since he rubs them! So all is good...looks really disgusting and makes me feel real bad for him, but he will be fine and she said it will start looking better in a week. (Thats a long way away to be looking at my poor little baby with a swollen blood tinged eye... ) My 2yr. just had pink eye in his right eye over the weekend and a really bad ear infection in his right ear also over the weekend. Isaak (1yr. old) had pink eye in his right eye also earlier this week and is cutting 2 back teeth this week...so I feel so bad for them! They haven't been sick (not a runny nose of anything) since nov. 2008, so this is just great that they are now getting sick and I am almost due:banghead:
