my DD constantly takes her shoes off in the car... we just deal with it, and put her shoes back on when we get to where we are going... she keeps them on any other time, just in the car she always takes them off.

Don't have any advice, sorry mama.

We just had the same problem with my youngest DD (now 20 months old). I bought some of the soft-soled shoes at Target. I forget what brand they are, but they are leather and kind of moccasin-like. She cried for a bit but forgot they were there. Then we moved onto sandals (like 2 weeks later) and now she's in regular shoes. I think the big selling point for shoes with my DD is that she is OCD about getting things stuck to her feet. She also relates shoes to going somewhere so she's pretty happy to see them now.

If you haven't already, grab up a pair of those soft-soled shoes from Target. I believe they're on sale from $14/pair for about $4 per pair. Good luck mama!

Oh, maybe try just socks first then move to a leather soft soled shoe like a Robeez type shoe, then a more flexible rubber bottom shoe. I wouldn't go totally shoe first. I'd gradual it. My son has been in either Robeez or Crocs. We went school shopping for big bro & tried on some "DC Shoe Co" skate shoes on Jason. OMG! That was hilarious! He took huge flat footed astronaut on the moon steps & whined like a puppy! They weren't flexible at all, so we decided on some Lucia & Leuca shoes with uber flexible soles. But they are his first "real" shoes.
Poor kid! I love barefeet too!

DS would only wear Robeez. Any other type of shoe was kicked off by him or impeded his walking ability.

For a long time my youngest would choose her Robeez Tredz above any other shoe. She was so used to the regular Robeez that anything else just felt weird to her. I think starting with some suede soled shoes, like the Robeez, would be a good place to start. Then you can work up to something that is still very flexible, but more protection.

You've gotten some good advice about soft soled shoes and socks. I would add that you could also give her some sort of Natural consequences incentive for keeping them on. If she likes to get down and walk when you are out and about, then she must wear shoes. No shoes-no getting down to walk while you are out. Do you go outside to play? No shoes-no outside time. Don't penalize her for removing them in other situations, but do make it clear to her that shoes are a requirement outside of the house if she wants to get down and play. She's old enough to get it.

^^ditto

My DS is like I am, we both cannot abide by shoes or socks when it is hot out... if our feet can't breathe - we can't breathe (I know it sounds odd, but seriously that's how it feels).

So, unless we leave the house or the floors are cold - no socks/shoes. However, if we leave - they stay on until we get where we are going.

So far, so good. We have been doing the 'natural consequences' routine and we talk a lot about what we expect when we go somewhere. This weekend we went on a short walk together, and he was allowed to walk holding my hand - as long as he wanted - but as soon as he lets go, he had to be held.
He did really well and decided in the store we went to, he wanted to be held to look around everywhere that wasn't the downstairs toy department (LOL) and after we left, he wanted to walk the rest of the way to his Oma & Opa's. He did not however want to walk home, and that was ok. He slept really good that night :giggle:

Hi mama :) Sorry if this is innapropriate, but I have had lots of moms say that the shoes I make are the only ones their LO's will keep on their feet. LMK if you need any help :) My little guy cries if I take his off..lol...

I had great success with Pedipeds. Expensive, but lovely and dd LOVES them. She keeps trying to put on the ones she outgrew even though she has to bend her toes to fit them.

My daughter is still that way at 2.5. I don't bother putting shoes on her when we get in the car because she'll just have them off when we get where we are going anyway. I put them on when we get to the store.

Our best luck was with a pair of Speedo brand crocs. They are easy to put on and off. She also liked her Robeez Tredz.

my 4 year old STILL hates shoes. She tries to take them off eVERYWHERE even when we are out to dinner, stores, ect. We just tell her to put them back on or we have to sit in the car. Kinda hard for a 17month to understand. I guess really if you cant get your lo to keep them on put them in a sling or buggy so they dont touch the ground and make sure they have socks on
