I sold some PF's to a mama here on DS. It has been a great transaction, but I made a really dumb oops  I ASSumed that shipping couldn't be more than $5 or so. Guess how much......... $12.88  I got $18 for the dipes.
This is my first time shipping anything like this and it would have been smart of me to ask beforehand, but....
I used a box. Would an envelope have been cheaper? Any other tips?

I feel your pain. I've been selling fabrics and just a few yards can add up really quickly when it comes to postage. Sometimes it's cheaper to send UPS or FedEx, but I haven't looked into it in a long time.

It was UPS. I had the guy check to see how much for USPS and it was more. I did not ask about FedEx. I will next time. Thanks

Flat rate envelope/box? Up to 70 lbs is $4.95 ($4.80 w/DC on Paypal, I think) ;)

I used to work at UPS- don't ever go by their rates for USPS, they charge a bit more than the post office will. When someone would come in and ask for both rates to compare, I could see what our rate for USPS was, and what they would be charged at the post office. Sometimes it was only a few cents, sometimes it was several dollars difference. Use UPS for UPS only, and USPS for USPS only.
Anytime you can use a FRE or FRB for small but heavy items is the way to go! Prefolds may not seem like much, but they weigh a lot when mailing.

I feel so lame. A flat rate envelope would have been perfect. If they fit. It was 24 preemie size GMD.
What is FRE/FRB?

:hugs: They would not have fit in a FRE anyhow. FRB is pretty much the cheapest you get for shipping a bunch of pfs.

I think you could have put them in a medium box for only $10.
I just paid $5 to ship something to my mom. I got it on sale for only $7 but it was so heavy to ship, i think it was less of a deal.
