I was wondering which people like better; the Medela Pump In Style or Ameda Purely Yours? Why?

They are made by the same company, or used to be and are therefore very similar. So it depends on which one is more popular where you live. In the south Medela seems to be more popular but whichever supplies are most widely available is what you would want. For instance, does your local Walmart or Target, etc. carry the valves, the accessories, etc.
Edited to say I have a PIS and love it but I've never tried anything else expect a Medela Lactina.

I have the PY and love it. Its cheaper then the Medela. You do have to buy parts online. But you obviously can work the internet!

I also have the Purely Yours, but have not tried the Medela. The PY is significantly cheaper and rated just as highly, and it is a closed-system pump. I also feel better about the company - Ameda is WHO code compliant where Medela is not.
I bought it online, but I probably would have bought the PIS online anyway if I had chosen that. I don't know anywhere local that sells the PY, and I've only seen the PIS at BabiesRUs locally. I don't like the business deal between Medela and BRU, so I probably wouldn't choose to buy it there.

Purely Yours. I have used mine through almost 2 children. Ds is 4 and dd is 9 months. Used it three times a day for a year with ds. I have access to a hospital grade Medela at work so I use that while working but use the PY on weekends when I need to pump.
A co-worker was pumping at the same time I was with ds and she had a PIS. She commented several times she wished she got the PY because I pumped just as fast and as much as she did (I know not supposed to compare) not to mention it was much cheaper. I really like the fact that it is a closed system and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere it is the only pump approved by the FDA for that reason.

Ameda Purely Yours. I loved it ! I especially loved that it could run on AA batteries, that fit right into the pump body - no battery pack to plug into. In the morning, I would pump, wearing my hands-free pumping bustier, carrying the pump body around the house with one hand and getting ready for work with the other hand.

I'm so jealous, I'm not one of those people that can be passively milked. I have to squeeze it all out!

I have a PIS and have no complaints although it's the only one I've ever used.

I have both. PY we got used and I currently can not find all the parts, they are somewhere in this house. The PIS a friend gave me. I am currently using the PIS and I like it as soon as I find the parts to the PY I will use it and let you all know whitch works better. I will most likely sell the other pump. I remember the PY worked well when I pumped with DD but I will try this time and see.

I hate pumping, but the PumpInStyle is a hell of a lot better than the hand-pump that I was given when my first son was born (in 1995)!!!!

I have used both. My favorite was the Purely Yours.

I used them both and preferred the Purely Yours. The closed system was a real bonus. It was easy to care for, the flanges were comfortable (though the plastic is harder than Medela's, which bothers some people) and it was so much more value for the money. I liked that you can get it without the big black carrying bag. Since I only pump at home, I can do without that. :)

Never used the purely yours, but I know the walmart lansinoh pump is basically the same thing. I use an PISA (pump in style advanced) and like it alot but i do get milk backed up in the tubing sometimes and dont like that.. but it was free from wic.
