I was just curious to see if anyone is already planning wee costumes for their new arrival. I want to hear everyone's ideas.

When I first found out I was having a boy, I was planning on being Amidala, and having the DH be Darth Vader, with my daughter as Leia and the new one as Luke. Well, now I don't feel like sewing all that, and I won't pay for costumes. I was thinking maybe something easier...like DH, me and, new baby each being some kind of fruit (banana, apple, grapes) and DD being the chiquita banana lady?

Then I thought that I could just be really lazy and put the new guy in his Cornhuskers jersey onesie, and DD in her Huskers cheerleading uniform, and have DH and I be face-painted/corn hat wearing fans. Go Big Red!

I love dressing up, and I know that most people don't really put this much thought into it, but I want to have adorable 1st Halloween photos. He's just going to be so small, it's going to be hard. I had so much fun making my daughter's costume last year. She looked so cute (and one 1st place in the base costume contest)!

This is also the first Halloween that I will get to spend with my husband in the almost 6 years we have known each other, so I want dress up as a family.

Does any one have any ideas?

I saw an infant dressed as a Chipolte (sp?) burrito. They wrapped the little guy in tin foil and had a little white hat for a sour cream dollup! Super cute!

i was looking at some cute little costumes at walmart for him, but i dont know what size he will be by then so i am going to wait. my dh and i wont be dressing up and all the other kids are old enough that they have their own ideas about what they want to be, so no matching here, lol. when my last ds was born in early sept, i got him a cute little lion costume from babies r us. it seemed bulky and unfomfy for him though, so i mainly want something comfy for him.

We're considering knocking off one of these - http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=535078&cmSource=Search and probably doing a kitten instead of some of their other choices.

The lady bug one is so cute! That would be so simple to make. Hmmmm. Maybe we will be bugs. How easy would it be to make a spider costume for a newborn? All you need to do is sew some extra arms onto a shirt and glue some googly eyes onto a cap. :) I want to be a Praying Mantis, but butterfly would be easier. Oh, I'm so indecisive.

If anyone else wants to share photos of ideas, or costumes past and present...I'd like to see! I love Halloween. I'm going to have to wait to start my baby weight loss program and until after the candy goes on sale! :)

This is my daughter on Halloween last year...
One old brown t-shirt, scraps from dress hemming, boots that I got on clearance for $0.75, some black yarn, and a headband of a color that she never wore - that came in an 8 pack + about 10 minutes in front of the sewing machine =

I don't have a clue what Zeke will be let alone a bitty little baby! Last year Zeke was an elephant. The whole theme thing is cute. We dressed our dog up as robin hood like from the cartoon where he's a fox because she's a shiba inu and looks just like a fox, that was super cute. It would be cute to dress them all up like characters from robin hood. Now I have to go find some good pics and see if there's something I can make for all of them because I'm pretty sure our dog has grown out of her costume... it was super easy to make though :D

Sarah is going to be a cat but I don't really have any plans for Dean. If the weather is nice then I will take him out when she goes but knowing Chicago it will be freezing. I'm knitting him a pumpkin hat and set of longies so he'll just wear those.

Aw, I love all these ideas. And the swaddle costumes are so cute!

Unfortunately my 3yo DS has decided that he will be a cowboy again this year. He was adorable as a cowboy last year, but I was hoping to do something different. I guess it's easy, at least.

And when we announced to DS that we were having a baby, he of course wanted to know when the baby would get here. So for simplicity (since he obviously doesn't understand months at this point) we told him baby would be here around Halloween. He instantly became concerned that we didn't have a costume for the baby, so I told him that baby could wear the chile pepper costume that DS wore as a baby. Now DS is determined that this is the plan, even though I'd like this baby to have its own first costume. Oh well, at least I loved the pepper. Here's what it looks like:

Probably not going to do costumes since Ds is thankfully too young to have a clue about trick or treating. Plus we are going to avaoid crowds due to it being cold/flu season. If we do costumes then it will be for pics only. I think I have some costumes in my HHG ( that will be coming soon, yay!!) but not sure on sizes yet. Last year ds was a ladybug ( or manbug as dh had to say :giggle:)

I love the chilli pepper costume. I think it's cute that they will have the same first costume. I wish it were that easy for me! Different ages, and different genders are kind of eliminating that option for me.

Well, she actually has 3 costumes already plus a baby's first halloween outfit. I have no idea what she will wear! :D

That's because you get a free burrito on Halloween if you dress up like one!

DS will be a little swaddled frog, and his big sissies will be princesses. I may have to tinfoil him up though and get my free burrito! :)

We are thinking about doing a variety of Disney character and having my dh dress up as Walt Disney. I've got plenty of princess outfits for the girls. I need to think about the baby and myself. Our big Halloween party is 1.5 weeks after the baby is coming, so I really don't want to do anything elaborate. Plus, who knows how it will fit.

When I was 18 mo and my little brother was a newborn my mom dressed us up as a bride and groom... HOW CREEPY IS THAT? LOL!!! Here's Milo's costume... It was $20 but well worth it because I freaking LOVE peas and pea pods. The "cake" at my shower is actually a cupcake tower with a little fondant pea on each one except the top one, which has a whole pea pos and vines... I just think pea pods are so cute. Milo better be here by halloween so he can wear this!

Mmm. Cupcakes. Wishing I would have gotten on a plane this morning just for some cupcakes tomorrow! I bet that cupcake tower is beautiful. I can't wait to see photos!

My 2.5 year old is going to be a monkey. He LOVES his costume. I'm not sure about buyign one for #2 who's due to come around the 28th. I might just buy a onsie from Old Navy, so I won't be too upset if he doesn't get to wear it :)

I have some friends that went as the Flinstones. Daddy was Fred, mom was Wilma, son was Dino and daughter was Pebbles. It was very cute!!

I really love this idea! Last year I considered Marge and Maggie Simpson for me and my DD (Daddy was deployed as always). I saw the cutest idea for Marge Simpson hair online -- big bubble wrap, spray painted blue and shaped like a cylinder -- plus I had a green strapless dress and red beads already, and a Maggie costume would have been super easy as well. Then, I went with a friends theme and dressed DD up like TigerLily to go with her kids' peter pan and tinkerbell costumes.

I seriously love the Flinstones though. It would be so easy to make a little leopard print toga for 2 week old! And we live in Hawaii, so I dont' have to worry about him being too cold! Those costumes would hardly even require sewing. I think I might steal this one!

I have a friend that is coming to visit with her two kids for Halloween, and I told her that I would make costumes for her kids too. Her kids could be Betty and Barney Rubble (she's not into dressing up, herself).

Wow, I might go buy fabric tonight. You have inspired me! :)

Happy to assist!! It would be adorable to have your friends kids as the rubbles. I know that she was able to make the costumes super cheap!!

Good luck!!

DS and DD were both pumpkins for their first Halloween...orange swaddling blanket with a little pumpkin hat and...done!

But I was just on Target.com and they have some *adorable* swaddling costumes that are only $14, so now I'm seriously thinking about getting the hot dog swaddling, making DD a peanut, DS a baseball player, and DH and I in our Cardinal shirts! DH is actually on board with this theme (normally he *hates* family themes) so I'm thinking I better get working on that peanut costume (or maybe cracker jack? :giggle2:)

Here is a Martha Stewart idea with Mom as the spider web and baby as the spider.

I'm hoping to have DS (22 months) be a cowboy and the new baby as a cow. But I haven't sewn anything yet....so, we'll see!

Mine are done! Here is DD1 modeling, then the whole shebang. I didn't crochet T's froggy hat (I'll post as soon as I remember who did) and he has a matching green swaddle that should be here any day. We'll use Halloween pics for the birth announcement of the girls kissing the little frog. :goodvibes:
