I just miscarried at 5 weeks after having had two normal pregnancies with my girls. I don't know if I'm just trying to find a reason when there is none, or if this is valid, so I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this...I noticed a few months ago that I seemed to be losing more hair than usual...I noticed it again last night in the tub, and started thinking that maybe the hair loss and miscarriage could be related. There's some info on the internet about low thyroid that has both those symptoms. I'm going to see if I can get thyroid levels added to my hcg test on friday, but was wondering if anyone had experienced this themselves.

*so sorry, I forgot to put in the title that children are mentioned*

First off, I am sorry for your loss.

I have thyroid issues, and yes, hair loss and miscarriage are some possible side effects of low thyroid, but you have to many more symptoms to deem the thyroid the culprit. I lose my hair a bunch more if I have it up a lot.....because hair gets broken from being put into pony tails every day.

I hope that you don't have thyroid issues, take it from me, daily med taking is not fun, waiting an hour to eat every morning is not fun, watching everything that goes into your body is not a party, and trying to lose weight....hah! That is funny, weight loss is so much harder for women with thyroid issues then anything else, I work 10 times harder than most women and never even lose a pound........Please, I beg of you, don't hope for a thyroid issue....I know that you want a answer and pray that your thyroid is not it.

:hugs:

Hi, momma. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I am struggling with thyroid issues currently, and *was* diagnosed with Post partum thyroiditis after the birth of my son nine months ago. When I was finally tested in March, my TSH was .14, then it went up to .24. My T3 and T4 were both normal. It is unclear whether or not I have Grave's Disease, or just the thyroiditis and I was unwilling to take the radioactive pill to test to find out for that, so as of now I am unmedicated. I had my levels tested a month ago shortly after we found out we were expecting again. My thyroid level during the first trimester (8 weeks I believe) was at .33, which my endocrinologist said was great for first trimester. She said that maybe I'm just one of those people who have a low TSH level because I wouldn't have been able to get pregnant if I wasn't within normal levels for my body. Then, last Monday, I lost our baby at 11 weeks. :(

I have been struggling with the loss now for one week, and my thyroiditis symptoms are beginning to return. I called the endo and left a message asking her if she wanted to test my levels outside of our usual 6 week appointment, but she never called me back. I have a suspicion that the thyroid issue influenced the miscarriage, but then I wonder if it was the other way around, and now that I am no longer pregnant, the thyroid issue is reversing. I don't have the hair falling out, and I don't have the rapid weight loss (go figure!), nor do I have a rapid pulse. I just have a hyperactive thyroid. It makes me unusually moody, light-headed, and dizzy. Sometimes when I'm driving, I have to pull off the road because I am so dizzy. Not fun at all. It wouldn't hurt to get your levels checked, and sometimes thyroid issues resolve themselves on their own. Unfortunately, as pp mentioned, sometimes they come with daily medication and a slew of other issues. Keep us posted!

On a side note, I got the statement from my insurance company, and although I pay only $15 for my work up every six weeks, the Thyroid panel costs over $600!!! Ouch.

Thank you for sharing...I'm so sorry for your loss as well. I'm waiting right now on the results from last week's blood test, so I will hopefully find out some info soon. I hope you get everything straightened out as well, and hang in there. That first week is really rough...I just found out a good friend is due a week before I was. She doesn't know I miscarried and I don't want to tell her because even conceiving for her is a miracle, and I don't want her to be even more worried about m/c. Anyhow, it's really tough when it seems there's constant reminders of loss.
