Hey mamas! I just started pumping and have a question about Lansinoh bags. The instructions say to label with ballpoint pen or pencil and not a felt tip. I find the ball point and pencil extremely difficult. Does the felt tip include Sharpies? I would think they would work well and be easy. What do you use that works? I just want to make sure I'm going to use something that is fool proof. I'm pumping for a mom/baby I found on milkshare and I don't want to loose/mislabel any milk! Thanks!

I didn't know they said that, I usually use a sharpie.

i've always used a permanent marker, and i think i label them upside-down!

I always get sharpie all over myself, and DH won't use milk if it leaks into the bowl because it "touched the fridge air" I'm going to start freezing in ice cubes and putting them in a bottle to thaw

I use a thin tipped Sharpie on these bags and so far have had no problems with smearing. would put a piece of scotch tape over my writing before I froze or refridgerated the bag if I were really concerned about the writing smearing.

If you label before you fill it with milk then it shouldn't matter what pen/marker you use. I always put the same amount in each bag (8oz) so I label them first with a sharpie and then fill all the bags after the ink has dried. I've never had any smear, and I've donated 500 oz and have more than 1500 oz in the freezer!

Thanks Mamas, I used the sharpie tonight. Made labeling painless.

I've tried using a ball point and it never works for me. Now I use a fine point Sharpie. I write on the bag before I fill it and have never had it smear. I don't allow time for it to dry, it seems pretty instant for me.

Ahhh!!! Thank you so much mamas... I've always used a ball point pen and it worked well until I got the "new thicker bags". They drive me nuts... I spend 3+ minutes per bag trying to label them :lostit: I pump to donate though and was terrified of contaminating the milk with a sharpie :banghead: Thanks mamas :goodvibes:

Wait... why is it a problem to label after the bag is filled? The flap with the label is flat. I always waited until after I'd pumped so I could write the number of ounces. :dunno:

I label with a sharpie, sometimes before filling and other times after. no problems so far

I might be odd woman out here but I can get a ballpoint pen (Papermate to be exact) to work if I write on something... like the bag is on a notepad and I'm writing on the bag... so there's a cushion for the bag. If I try to write on the bag while it's just on the table, I can't get it to work.
ETA, I always write it down before filling the bag. That way if I screw up, I just get another bag and I don't have to worry about transferring the milk to another bag (did this NUMEROUS times with the Gerber bags I had for DS1)

I think Lansinoh is talking about the water soluble markers like Crayola.
Not sure how one would contaminate milk with a Sharpie, unless you write inside the bag :giggle:
I have always used Sharpie and put 6 ounces in each bag for all of my milk - donated or not. I just date them and frreze them flat in the freezer.
